25.01.2022 Enjoyed annual Wildlife Watch at Tunks Park with Ramin this morning with 35 bird species and good company, thanks to at North Sydney Council

25.01.2022 The 5 things I like, didn't make the cut for the 3 minute Wild Idea Incubator pitch

24.01.2022 Spent a lovely sunny Sunday morning with an enthusiastic and knowledgable group at Tunks Park. Spring was in the air with Cuckoos, nest-building and Water Dragons just part of the experience. A big thank you to all attendees.

24.01.2022 Gotta love the Cumberland Plain

23.01.2022 Don't forget to tune in to Bathie's Bird Club at 9:30pm on Tuesday (ABC702am) to hear me talking about the spectacular Honeyeater migration that's about to get underway in the Blue Mtns.

23.01.2022 Time to look at the root cause, not address the symptoms

23.01.2022 Had a lovely morning learning about birds as part of Blacktown's Senior Week celebrations. A big thanks to all that attended, hope you had fun!

23.01.2022 Had a great morning at Thirlmere Lakes yesterday thanks to Wollondilly Council, although the lakes and waterbirds are no more. It was both eerie and disturbing as this wasn't a result of drought but of nearby mining activities. Still we found some nice birds.

23.01.2022 Last week I visited Riverstone wetlands near Blacktown, an extremely important wetland high in biodiversity, due to be destroyed for a sprawling housing estate. The visit recorded listed migratory shorebirds, several rare ducks, two rare summer migrants and plenty of nesting activity including a beautiful family of Black Swan. Begs the question why wasn't this wetland even registered on the original EIS - it's too good to lose

23.01.2022 Always nice to get out to the Western Sydney Parklands!

22.01.2022 Don't forget to tune in to Bathie's Bird Club at 9:20 (yes, 10mins earlier) tomorrow evening to hear me talk about birds encountered recently (and Avocets if there's time) - ABC702am

20.01.2022 In these uncertain days, improve your mental health by getting into birds. Don't believe me? then listen to the legend, Robert Nesta https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qqDuEP4okw

20.01.2022 Great to watch a young Brown Goshawk pose with a Raven at the Parklands this morning

19.01.2022 If you're stuck for something to do on Easter Saturday!

19.01.2022 Getting to find out more about this little patch in Mulgoa

17.01.2022 Two weeks ago I visited Lalor Park Public School to run a bird workshop as part of the Cumberland Stepping Stones project. Unfortunately the resident Tawny Frogmouth was a 'no show' on the day but all the usual suspects were there, each one had it's own story.

17.01.2022 Had a great morning doing the Aussie Backyard Bird Count for Inner West Council as part of #Riverfest2019! with 15 bird species and some cool reptiles seen around White's Creek. A big thanks to all those involved.

16.01.2022 Happy 2020, 12 Aussie birds in 12 months, the Emu connects me with the land.

16.01.2022 The best way to enjoy a Spring morning

16.01.2022 Don't forget to tune in to 'Bathie's Bird Club' on ABC702 at 9:30 this evening to hear me talk about some of Australia's lesser-known parrots

15.01.2022 Living in the Blue Mountains has its rewards, especially when you have local Platypus

14.01.2022 Had a great day manning the CLC stall with Linda and 'Avianting' with 25 species recorded at the Groovin' Grassroots - Celebrating Enviro Volunteering. Good to catch up with Greg Bev and others, big thanks to all involved.

14.01.2022 DIY Haircut, one of my lesser-known skills. Perfect for isolation

14.01.2022 Now more than ever

14.01.2022 My 3 birdcounts have been Arcadia, Hazelbrook and Blacktown, tomorrow I'm off to Rozelle

14.01.2022 It was great to visit Megalong Public School again as the Cumberland Stepping Stones project winds up. While numbers were down on my Spring visit (28), a total of 54 species is a good start for students to get to know the birds of the Megalong Valley.

13.01.2022 Always nice to spend time with fellow birders

11.01.2022 It would be nice to think that those humans that survive would value and protect rather than destroy and consume the natural world

11.01.2022 Birdwatching is even better when it's helping conservation

11.01.2022 Birdwatching with a purpose, love these monthly surveys

10.01.2022 Celebrated Threatened Species Day (7th September, when we lost the last Tasmanian Tiger) with the birds and other wildlife at Edmonson Regional Park. A big thanks to NSWNPWS for organising a well-attended event despite the windy weather.

10.01.2022 Had a great Sunday morning with Elisha from Greater Sydney Landcare Network and Richie from NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service listening to Gerigonies, Kingfishers and Dollarbirds on the 'bird walk' at Mitchell Park. We recorded 50 species, with a beautiful python and a small mob of kangaroos helping the group connect with Aussie wildlife up close

10.01.2022 It's so sad to see the special birds and places I love lost to development. I feel sorry for the future generations that will not be able to fix this and it's happening on my watch

09.01.2022 I love birding with a purpose

09.01.2022 I was very impressed with my first visit to King's Bush, Camden, with 54 species incl. my first Bee-eater, Dollarbird and Sacred Kingfisher for the season.

09.01.2022 Well all good things must come to an end and two weeks ago I lead the last Cumberland Stepping Stones bird workshop at Katoomba Public School. It was a lot of fun with over 200 students Avianated in the mountains and on the plain.

09.01.2022 Tune in to 'Bathies Bird Club' ABC702 at 9:30 this evening to hear me talk about Gerigonies (Jerrig-gonees)

09.01.2022 Here's a chance to create the FIRST and ONLY decent nature resrve in Sydney. Imagine walking trails, bird hides and BREEDING REGENT HONEYEATERS. It would be THE 'go to' destination for both domestic and international eco-tourists alike, but ONLY if managed for wildlife, not profit.

09.01.2022 Don't forget to tune into Bathie's Bird Club at 9:30 this evening on ABC702 to hear me talk about Australia's ducks and other waterfowl

08.01.2022 Two weeks ago I visited Fairfield High School as part of the Cumberland Stepping Stones project. This was my only High School and we discussed Classification, Food Webs and Ecosystems. On the walk I explained how the Riparian habitat of the adjacent creek was a wildlife corridor that increased biodiversity levels within the school grounds.

08.01.2022 It's even better looking at birds when they're part of a bigger picture

08.01.2022 It was great to join Robin and Chris for a recce of Phils Forest, unfortunately Sunday's event has been cancelled due to bushfires in the Hawkesbury, but still great to visit this special place once again

07.01.2022 Hope to be talking about how Cumberland Land Conservancy are using birds to achieve better outcomes for Cumberland Plain restoration

07.01.2022 All attendees will receive a FREE wetland bird guide.

07.01.2022 Had a nice morning at Bungarrabie, Western Sydney Parklands looking at the birdlife with the nice folk from Officeworks before they planted native grasses. A big thanks to Evan from Greening Australia.

06.01.2022 A couple were looking for a guide to show them some birds in the Blue Mountains. We had a lovely morning with over 40 bird species (including a 'lifer' for them) but the Echidna was the highlight for me. Think I might've found my new direction.

02.01.2022 How much more wildlife will be lost as Sydney expands to the western edge of the Cumberland Plain?

02.01.2022 The CLC surveys at Wallaroo are the perfect way to spend the first Monday of every month!

01.01.2022 1 Aussie bird a month, January starts with the largest. The Emu

01.01.2022 Can't think of a better way to spend a Monday morning

01.01.2022 Great to see some rain, let's hope there's enough to break the drought and reinvigorate our wetlands
