04.01.2022 Located in our Northern hangar we honour those in the WAAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force) and WRAAF (Women’s Royal Australian Air Force). Despite many opinions that women had no place in the services during the mid-thirties, by 1942-43, it was realised that there was a critical need for educated women in the greatly expanding RAAF. Today, RAAFA has special purpose branches that epitomise camaraderie, compassion, and community, one of these being the Women in Air F...orce Branch. Formed in April 1985, today the Branch has over 90 members and foster camaraderie between women who had previously served in the WRAAF. Read more about the RAAFA branch in the latest Air Mail edition and next time you are visiting the museum, head to the Northern Hangar for a lesson in history on how far women in aviation has come. www.aviationmuseumwa.org.au/raafa-air-mail-october-novembe/
