19.01.2022 Hello everyone. It’s been a while since we have been in this new and unusual world we now live in. I hope everyone has used this time wisely, in developing new ideas with their birds etc, and have remained safe. The committee has decided to either extend or waiver membership fees this year. This means, if you have already paid for 2020, you get 2021 as well.... If you haven’t paid yet, you get 2020 and Will then need to pay for 2021. Basically what that means is every member of the Bendigo ASA will receive the next 12 months free. I know, how awesome is this news. Stay tuned please, to see when we are able to all meet again so you can see some fantastic guest speaker. They are itching to get out, as you are, to pass on their knowledge to you. See more

03.01.2022 SPECIAL EVENT One off Zoom meeting with Tony Silva Tuesday 24th August at 8.00pm... Tony Silva started his passion with parrots back when he was 10 years old, through visiting a pet shop which contained a beautiful Blue and Gold Macaw and Scarlet Macaw. An interest was sparked straight away with his visits to the store and by the age of 16 years old he had acquired his first large parrot. Soon the number of species and individuals grew and by 1978 Tony had achieved the first breeding of the Slender-billed Conure in the USA. Tony later travelled to the Caribbean and South America to study parrots in the wild, as direct observation in the wild was considered the key to achieving success in captivity. Tony’s first field studies were conducted in Argentina during the 80’s, when weight and growth gains of hand reared young Amazona aestiva were compared to young being reared in the wild by parents. Tony was also the curator at Loro Parque, where he has bred in his private collection and Loro Parque 82% of all parrot species. One of his breeding achievements include the Spix Macaw. Tony has lectured on parrots on all continents and has had several books published in multiple languages. His latest book Tony Silva Macaws, and Tony Silva Psittaculture were released world-wide in 2019. So on this one special night Tony has agreed to speak live via our zoom platform for our members. Editor’s note. Tony’s availability was only gained at short notice so our usual monthly meeting including our AGM will be the following evening.
