15.01.2022 Riding the stretchy trot circle You are asked to show stretching on a long rein on a 20metre circle in the current EA Preliminary 1B, 1C & in all three of the E...A Novice Level Tests. This movement has been included in these tests because stretching is good for all horses, just as it is for human athletes. It is always worth double marks. The coefficient is there to reward combinations who can demonstrate relaxation, suppleness, a consistent elastic contact with the riders hand, obedience & balance. In other words - throughness. The EA Rules say: as the neck stretches forward and downwards, the mouth should reach more or less to the horizontal line corresponding with the point of the shoulder. (p. 27, 2020). His nose should come slightly in front of the vertical. This is just the right amount of stretch to require a horse to lift his back and use his core muscles while still maintaining his longitudinal balance. Balance, meaning he will keep approximately 50% of his weight balanced on his hind legs and 50% on his front legs. If we asked horses to stretch more than taking his mouth level with his point of shoulder, we would put horses at risk of losing their balance, which would disturb their rhythm. Rhythm is the first priority in the Training Scale, so judges definitely do not want to see horses lose rhythm! To enable the horse to keep his rhythm and balance, in the first quarter of the circle, allow the horse to chew the rein out gradually. For the middle half a circle, maintain the stretch consistently. In the last quarter of the circle, quietly shorten the reins to have the horse back in a working trot frame as he finishes the circle. Keeping the lateral flexion & bend as you pick up the reins helps your horse to stay soft & raise his neck gently.

14.01.2022 I had a very nervous wee girl waiting to hear if she made it onto the upcoming Dunstan Horsefeeds & Fiber Fresh Equine - New Zealand Young Rider Camp.... Yeap, ...shes one of 52 very lucky recipients who was drawn to attend, yay!! Some taming to do in the next few weeks..... Thought you may enjoy her application video.

14.01.2022 Kenyan runner Abel Mutai was just a few feet from the finish line, but became confused with the signage and stopped, thinking he had completed the race. A Spani...sh runner, Ivan Fernandez, was right behind him and, realizing what was happening, started shouting at the Kenyan to continue running. Mutai didnt know Spanish and didnt understand. Realizing what was taking place, Fernandez pushed Mutai to victory. A journalist asked Ivan, "Why did you do that?" Ivan replied, "My dream is that someday we can have a kind of community life where we push and help each other to win." The journalist insisted "But why did you let the Kenyan win?" Ivan replied, "I didnt let him win, he was going to win. The race was his." The journalist insisted, and again asked, "But you could have won!" Ivan looked at him and replied, "But what would be the merit of my victory? What would be the honor in that medal? What would my Mother think of that?" Values are passed on from generation to generation. What values are we teaching our children? Let us not teach our kids the wrong ways and means to WIN. Instead, let us pass on the beauty and humanity of a helping hand. Because honesty and ethics are WINNING! #Ethics #Honesty #passitdown #teachlove
