23.01.2022 This is the epitome of meditation right? Well I’d rather not see it that way because the problem with this view and status around meditation creates more barriers than encouragement. Whilst the beach at sunrise in lotus position sets a beautiful place to practice, meditation does not always look so peaceful. Meditation and mindfulness can take place anytime, anywhere and at any level. It can stir feelings of restlessness and agitation. The more imperfect we can v...iew our time to mediate, the more we may be will to actually meditate. Instead of waiting for that perfect moment, mindset, posture and just sitting with your experience as it is - that’s what meditation is. Bringing curiosity and openness to whatever it is we’re feeling with kindness. That’s meditation and everyone can practice. So I invite you to practice, priorities and mess it up. 23.01.2022 To me, women's empowerment involves creating spaces where all womxn feel safe to express themselves, be heard, and feel deeply connected with self - just as we are. When we can listen and express our internal wisdom we guide our own empowerment. Women's empowerment can look many ways. But I am skeptical of organisations that promote "women's empowerment" by joining a community that only looks a certain way and upholds an ideal that is out of reach for man...y. The whole point of womxn's empowerment is equality. Men can be apart of these conversations too, men can be feminists. Some of the most empowering insights happen when we're encouraged to be curios with the actions we take and the words we use everyday (to ourselves and others). Empowerment doesn't come with a product. Empowerment is already within, we just need the self-compassion to listen and the compassion from others to be heard. To me, that's inspiring! Surrounding yourself with people who allow you to express yourself, people who are curios and check their privilege. Together we can achieve amazing things and a community that's nourishing. As a Non-diet Dietitian I support people living with disability, eating disorders and anyone who has a difficult relationship with food and their body. 21.01.2022 The wealth of scientific evidence and clients actual lived experience that supports it's harmful and extremely unhelpful to focus on weight and diets when it comes to health, is starting to catch on (it's only taken 40+ years of activism). We start to see the diet and wellness industry morph their messaging, while continuing to perpetuate harm and completely contradict. Hint: Your liver detoxifies not "the perfect" body drinking juice, your bod...y regulates PH levels not alkaline diets, very very few are intolerant to gluten..... the list goes on! Some diets attempt to claim they are evidence bases. But evidence based doesn't mean looking at only one small aspect of research and making sweeping claims. Some diets don't claim evidence based, they can just tell a convincing story that usually ends in restricting something for fear of your "health". If you would love to just enjoy food again, feel at home in your body and actually look after your health in ways that expand your life, I'm here to support you. 21.01.2022 New mums you don’t have to get your body back! Your body is amazing, every life creating/nourishing moment of it! The pressure to get straight back into the exercise and nutrition rules is the last thing you need. Rest is important, nourishment for your whole-self is important, listening to your body is important. Embrace the whole journey and each moment of discovery, instead of missing it all to focus on losing the baby weight. Motherhood is a beautiful celebration of what the body can do! Praise it like the queen it is!

18.01.2022 Accepting the way your body looks comes from a place of compassion, self-trust and respect. Being WITH your body allows us to listen and honour your needs in healthful ways. Accepting your changing body is building a healthy relationship with yourself for life. Diet culture has taught us to control our body to fit fashion and social status under the view of "health". That in order to be worthy, we have to be in a constant state of improvement. Seeing ...your body as something you dislike and constantly need to change and fix, is not "healthy". You are worthy of respect, no matter your body size. You are more than what's on the outside. Looking after your health is honouring ALL of you, finding connection and listening to your body. 15.01.2022 Why, as a Dietitian I don't talk about food on social media?? In our "health" conscious diet culture society I find that any comments around food are taken out of context and do more harm on an individual level. Labeling foods as "unhealthy" "healthy" "good" and "bad" only promote feelings of fear and guilt, and worst of all it takes the power away from your own intuition. Eating only "healthy" foods can become unhealthy for so many reasons. Food is more ...that fuel. As a Non-Diet Dietitian i'm interested in the behaviours around food. How this affects your life, your relationship with your body, and bigger picture health. Food is apart of health, but food on it's own is not a cure or poison, despite popular opinion. I work with you to build a healthy relationship with food and your body. In a 1-1 session we can dive into food and your unique needs, but i'm not here to tell you what and what not to eat. 12.01.2022 I do love some good book time. The book I’m currently reading Anti-Diet by Christy Harrison has not disappointed! If you’re interested to understand the oppressive history of diet culture that continues to shape our beliefs today, the many guises of current diet/wellness industries that continue to morph and harm, dive into topics of feminism, racism and healthism, and open your eyes to find peace with food and how we can do better in this world I highly recommend it! I recommend everyone read it really because the harm of #dietculture is embedded in our society. So read it for yourself, but you’re also doing it for your daughter, your mother, your friends, your partner and the stranger you might otherwise judge on the street. We can all do better. Body Justice IS a social justice issue. We cannot talk about social justice if people are still being discriminated against based the body that they exist in. 1. I am anti-diet culture because it is harmful! Diet culture is rooted in fatphobia and racism. Diet culture pushes weight stigma by moralizi...ng smaller bodies that exist on the spectrum and demonizing bodies that are further down the spectrum. Weight stigma and fatphobia are the reasons why someone that doesn’t fall into the mythical BMI can present to their provider with knee pain and immediately be told to lose weight versus someone who falls within the mythical BMI is asked follow up questions and potentially gets the care that they need. 2. We know that diets don’t work in the way YOU think they do. Most people who go on diets end up weight cycling, and spending their lives chasing the next lifestyle change. Meanwhile these programs are making millions off of you by ultimately sending the message that your body has to shrink in order to be worthy. In case you didn’t know you are already worthy! No one can tell you how much, how little or what to put in your body! Our bodies are complex and no two bodies need the same thing. Dieting is a major risk factor for eating disorders including orthorexia. Eating disorders are a leading cause of death and other concerns. I also do not support anything that ask you to shrink and take up less space! 3. I do not support workout programs or plans that are focused on weight loss, or achieving a certain body size /shape. Our bodies were designed to exist in diverse shapes, sizes , abilities, etc. The culture of gyms can often be toxic and triggering. There is an inherent message that moving your body on a rigid schedule gives you some type of moral value , that oftentimes requires not listening to your body. I’m not saying that all gyms are bad, there are some that are focused on moving your body in ways that bring you joy while honoring your bodies need to stop or rest. There is shame See more
10.01.2022 How do we praise girls differently to boys?? There's something that extremely irritates me about the phrase "good girl". It makes my heart burn and my ear curl over. Girls come to know that being "good" means; not speaking up, putting others first, shrinking our body, staying small in so many ways. Girls don't have to be "good" and that doesn't make them bad. Girls, just like boys, should be encouraged to express themselves, make mistakes, be loud, be too much, know their needs, be whatever they want to be! Lift the girls and the boys up around you. Break down the expectations that sometimes we don't realise we hold. Nourish the unique beauty we all hold. If only the world was a better place... we can start with our daughters, sisters, friends, mothers, selves.

Dieting is the most potent political sedative in women's history; a quietly mad population is a tractable one." 04.01.2022 Before we jump in the water to surf we take time to assess where the waves break best, how they break, where the rips are, which way does the current push. We take this time to read the waves and connect with the ocean. I invite this same approach of curiosity with nutrition and your body. Before you dive into try yet another diet, observe your own body and what you’re really looking for. Or perhaps it’s time to reflect on current diet beliefs. ... Are you really going to try and paddle out the back in the worst spot only to get smashed repeatedly by waves and pushed back to the beach each time without success, feeling more and more drained of energy each time. Or is there a way you can actually connect with the ocean (your body) to work together to make it out to the back of waves, where it’s calm and peaceful, with ease, AND have heaps of energy left to actually enjoy the surf (or life)?? Sometimes we need guidance to learn how to read the ocean and our body. Just like the ocean, there’s no point trying to work against our body. Instead of viewing it as something we can conquer, it’s time to reflect on how we can work with it, with a deep respect and awareness. Our narratives about self and others are deeply informed by whose voices we are listening to. . We all experience life a little differently, and our stories matter. Different perspectives and interpretations are informed by how we are treated and our intersectional identities. What narrative are you helping shape by the voices you listen to? Is it all one voice or are you feeling challenged to think about other perspectives? . We need to start seeing people up close and learning from one another.
