24.01.2022 Ive been talking about DIETS with a lot of my clients lately. No one is immune from feeling as though they need to look a certain way and that means that were constantly looking at what and how much we eat. Chinese dietetics offers an interesting perspective on what to eat and groups foods into thier nature ie hot, warm, cold, cool, neutral etc to provide the antidote for internal imbalance. This might mean cooling foods for hot conditions for example. It also provides ...guidelines for how food should be eaten, such as never eating on the run, always chewing carefully and mindfully and eating warm food that is cooked where there is digestive weakness. But how much should we eat? When? Does Chinese Medicine have all the answers? Not really. There are SO MANY diet trends nowadays that it is just overwhelming. Keto, intermittent fasting, 5:2, Paleo, low carb, low fat... My belief is that these diets are just that - trends. YES they can make you lose weight in the short term but they are not sustainable due to their restrictive nature. Plus they can take the joy out of eating and therefore life. In our weekly acupuncture sessions, diet is something we discuss but I will never ask you to radically change your diet or cut out multiple food groups because it is simply not realistic in the long term. My clients know that I advocate balance in all aspects, believe moving your body is key, and eating food that nourishes you and still brings you joy is ESSENTIAL. This bread purse an excellent idea #bread #awakenacupuncture #acupuncturenewstead #acupuncturebrisbane #acupuncturist #acupuncturistbrisbane #diet #foodasmedicine

23.01.2022 How delicious is coffee? How many a day do you have? Sorry to be a buzz kill but from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective it can be super drying and create heat in your body This can be especially detrimental for some menstrual conditions that involve heat and definitely a no no if you have liver qi stagnation. This was a topic I chatted about with so many of my clients last week. So does that mean you have to cut out coffee completely? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe for ...a little while. It depends on whats going on with you and YOUR body. No one size fits all here. Cred: @annaorni #acupuncture #acupuncturebrisbane #wellness #coffee #newstead #brisbane
23.01.2022 WHERES YOUR ENERGY? Its 2020, its a new decade and youre still feeling tired? Whats going on? Well it could be a few things from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective:... 1. You are blood deficient 2. You are qi deficient 3. Your spleen is not working the way it should In the Awaken clinic we not only have teeny tiny hairlike painless pins to pop into the right spots to make you feel energized but also potions and tonics to top you up. We stock a range of Chinese herbs (in capsule form - no yucky teas to drink). . . After a full health assessment including tongue and pulse diagnosis we can figure out EXACTLY why you are feeling tired and lack lustre in order to create your specific treatment plan. Then, ironically, you will get to lay down and rest on the blissful treatment bed in order to emerge full of beans! Come on in, were open 7am-7pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday plus 8-2pm Saturdays. Oh and we have on the spot health rebates with almost all Health Funds! #acupuncture #acupuncturenewstead #acupuncturebrisbane #awakenacupuncture #energy

15.01.2022 Your period shouldnt actually be painful. You shouldnt really get PMS. Those clots shouldnt be there either. Your period shouldnt be super heavy but you should also have a good 4-5 day bleed and not 2-3 days. It shouldnt be bright red. You shouldnt feel tired before or after your period. Some of these symptoms we just get used to and consider normal as we tolerate them. All of the above are pathologies in Traditional Chinese Medicine and can be treated in clinic with ac...upuncture and herbs. Why suffer? @the.pinklemonade . . . . #womemshealth #painfulperiods #pms #acupuncture #acupuncturebrisbane #acupuncturenewstead #newstead
14.01.2022 Tips for bloating In clinic bloating is one of THE MOST common symptoms I see.... but why do we get bloated? From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, the spleen is almost always involved. A dysfunction with this organ creates issues with bloating after eating, possibly also fatigue, poor digestion, with loose stools, a foggy head and sometimes a feeling a heaviness in the body. ... The above can be caused by irregular eating, eating on the run, overthinking and anxiety or not enough energy or qi in our bodies to help us digest properly. Of course stress has an impact too. It has an impact on everything Besides Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs which can be effective for treating bloating, these are my top 3 HOME REMEDIES: 1. Chew slowly and sit down to eat. Sounds so annoyingly obvious doesnt it? Rushing through your food and eating on the run are bad news. Sit down and enjoy your meal and chew slowly. Not only will you get less bloated but youll know when youre full and therefore wont overeat (which can make bloating worse). 2. Ginger - a bit too astringent to eat on its own but delicious steeped in hot water and left for a few minutes to infuse. Perhaps even add a peppermint tea bag. Drink this concoction BEFORE eating and see how effective it can be for decreasing bloating due to its saliva and bile stimulating abilities. 3. Self massage - in clinic I love to use a herbal liniment called Po Sum On to massage into bloated, sore tummies but at home you can give yourself a similar treatment by stroking clockwise around your belly button 50 times and then anticlockwise 50 times. Use a flat hand to massage and feel free to use some coconut oil or grab some Po Sum from the clinic. Try these tips at home and let me know if they assist with your bloating. If you need a little more help then pop into the clinic and we can create a treatment plan that is specific to you and your body. @maggiedylan #awakenacupuncture #acupuncture #acupuncturenewstead #acupuncturebrisbane #bloating #balance #selfmassage #ginger #homeremedies

10.01.2022 This Acupuncture point has the power to calm you, prevent your migraines and regulate your periods! I marvel at Acupunctures effects every day in clinic and often wonder how something so simple could have application for so many common health complaints. Liver 3 (shown in the photo) is one of the most important points in acupunture due to its strong effect on the brain.... A study conducted in 2015 using an MRI showed that the area of the brain associated with emotion and vision was activated when this point was inserted! In clinical practice this point is essential to regulating your period, stopping your headaches and migraines, helping with built up emotions and reducing your stress! Hands up if you need this? Pop in for a free consultation and we can see if Acupuncture (and possibly this point) can help you feel yourself again. Click the book button in the bio to book a free 15 minute face to face consultation with me! . . . . . #acupuncturenewstead #acupuncture #acupuncturebrisbane #stress #headaches #migraine #calm #awakenacupuncture
09.01.2022 How do you deal with pain? Panadol? Exercise? Rest? Acute pain is enough to stop us doing what we love while chronic pain can have severe impacts on both our quality of life and our mental health.... The good news is that the research into Acupuncture for pain is extensive and over the last 60 years it has been proven that numerous biochemicals are released during acupuncture including opiod neuropeptides, and neurotransmitters such as endorphins, dynorphins, dopamine, cytokines, nitric oxide and GABA. These and many other neuropeptides play an important role in the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of Acupuncture. (Fan et al. 2017) To boot, Acupuncture is safe to use with zero nasty side effects. With such an incredible tool at our disposal, why would you bother with Panadol? 06.01.2022 I've been talking about DIETS with a lot of my clients lately. No one is immune from feeling as though they need to look a certain way and that means that we're constantly looking at what and how much we eat. 05.01.2022 Do you dream? Do you remember your dreams? Are they vivid? Do you wake at the same time every night? Does it take a while for you to fall asleep?... Sleep, in Traditional Chinese Medicine is so interesting. The main organs involved are the heart, kidneys the liver and the spleen. A dysfunction in any will have an impact on your sleep resulting in you not feeling rested when you wake. Your heart houses your Shen or spirit when you sleep and if there is heat in the heart (caused by emotions like anxiety) you wont be able to fall asleep easily. You might have dream-filled sleep and feel restless all night - this could be from stress and emotions which are causing stagnation in the liver and not allowing you to sleep peacefully. With the correct pattern diagnosis, Acupuncture and herbs may really assist with all of these sleep disorders and more... cred: @ehscapist #acupuncturenewstead #acupuncturebrisbane #sleep #insomnia
