20.01.2022 Our Mackay Public Health Unit and Infection Prevention Team are working with the State Health Emergency Coordination Centre to ensure we’re ready for potential ...cases of novel coronavirus. There have been no cases diagnosed in Mackay HHS and no one has been admitted to Mackay Base Hospital for investigation of this virus. Anyone with coronavirus symptoms (see the link below) who has travelled to or through mainland China in the past 14 days should contact a doctor immediately. Before your appointment, please call ahead and advise of your symptoms and recent travel so necessary precautions can be undertaken. The best thing everyone can do is practice good hygiene and hand washing to protect against infection, especially when coughing or sneezing (remember, cough into your elbow or a tissue, not your hand). Nursing the World to Health Nurses also account for half of the world’s health care workers . I am proud to be a nurse and am also proud of my nurses at Awal Medical Centre .... They are beautiful and caring ladies with warm hearts . They play a very vital role and are exceptional nurses . Today we also remember those nurses who lost their lives to Covid19 as frontline workers . 08.01.2022 A number of whooping cough (pertussis) cases have recently been diagnosed in Mackay in the past week. Whooping cough is highly contagious respiratory infection ...that affects all ages and can be life threatening for babies and young children. It often starts like a cold with a runny nose, sneezing and tiredness over several days followed by the characteristic coughing bouts. Whooping cough and COVID-19 symptoms overlap, testing for both illnesses may be suggested when presenting to your GP. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent whooping cough Immunisation for children is recommended as part of the National Program Schedule A booster dose is also recommended for any adult who wants to reduce the risk of infection and hasn't had a booster in the last 10 years. Adults working with infants and young children under 4 years of age and all health care workers should receive a dose of pertussis vaccine. Anyone who has been in close contact with an infectious person should keep a close eye on their own health. If you develop signs of whooping cough in the three weeks following the exposure immediately remove yourself from close contact with others until you have seen your GP. Call ahead. Stay home until you are no longer infectious, as advised by your GP, or another cause has been confirmed for your illness.

08.01.2022 Swab and go at Mackay Showgrounds COVID-19 drive-through testing clinic Today, Mackay Hospital and Health Service has opened a drive-through testing clin...ic at Mackay Showgrounds. The clinic will be open from 9am until 4pm, seven days a week. Entry to the clinic is via Milton Street, just follow the signs. When you arrive, we’ll take your details, do a screening for your symptoms and COVID-19 risk, and test you. Please stay in your car and turn off your engine when you arrive at the tents. Once you’ve been tested, you’ll need to go home and quarantine until you get your results. Don’t forget the other testing options available. The North Mackay Respiratory Clinic continues to be available for testing and a comprehensive respiratory assessment. Testing is also available at GPs and at mobile clinics across North Queensland.
