11.01.2022 AWAVA would like to reiterate the we will not tolerate any kind of hate speech, including transphobia, homophobia, racism, sexism or ableism. We are aware that there have been recent comments left on our Facebook page that have been transphobic and highly distressing in nature. We want to make clear that AWAVA’s social media is a place for ALL women and gender-diverse people. We will not tolerate transphobia. Whilst AWAVA’s primary role is to advocate to end violence agains...t women, inclusive of trans women, we also advocate to end gender-based violence more broadly. That advocacy work must strongly include working with the trans community and gender-diverse people who disproportionately face violent acts that seek to impose rigid gender binaries and normalise their gender identities. Trans and gender-diverse people should be able to enjoy the same human rights as cisgender people. One’s gender identity is not up for a debate. As we have posted before, AWAVA’s Facebook page is a safe and inclusive online space for members of the community to discuss issues relating to violence against women, feminism and women’s policy. AWAVA is committed to the principles of equality and diversity and we recognise the intersecting forms of oppression that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTIQ women, older women and women with disabilities face. We will therefore not tolerate any form of misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, racism, ageism or ableism on this page. Please adhere to the following guidelines when posting - Be polite and respectful of other people. Inappropriate language, personal attacks and abusive comments will be deleted Do not post inflammatory, discriminatory or offensive content Do not post comments that deliberately provoke arguments Any comments that violate our posting guidelines will be deleted by page admins. Repeated violation of these guidelines may result in being blocked from the page.
