23.01.2022 Time to present our new category: Green Theme with weekly new tips for books & movies on sustainability! Our first recommendation in this new section is the book "Drawdown" by Paul Hawken. The answer to Donald Trumps climate ignorance & a book that gives hope and inspires courage for the future!... Global warming means that we are heading for a civil crisis of an unimaginable scale. And we have no plan to prevent it. Well, do we? Paul Hawkens book describes 100 existing approaches to reducing climate-damaging gases that can solve the climate problem. The book reveals astonishing facts and gives rise to a well-founded hope: it is possible to turn the climate change around and reverse global warming by 2050. A book about imaginative people, clever technologies and the possibility of finally getting things moving. A book about the future! Off to the bookshop and learn about the concrete plan to reverse global warming - with a worldwide network of 100 means against climate collapse! We think that with this book you have an interesting "discussion partner". It presents facts that are comprehensible and verifiable. In addition, there is the possibility to verify the collected and presented data and to summarize them to a coherent picture. Something that is no longer a matter of course with the flood of information today. #greenmedia #sustainablemedia #sustainabilitybooks #climatechange ##climatechangefacts #safeourplanet #actnow #greeneducation #sustainableeducation #sustainablesydney #sydney #drawdown #paulhawken Source: Drawdown

19.01.2022 We celebrate the birthday of Sir David Attenborough. As the environmentalist turned 94, we want to take the chance to cherish his passion for our planet and his dedication to save it. His contribution to the realms of television and natural history is immeasurable its impossible to think of anyone who has devoted themselves more wholeheartedly to the task of inspiring interest in the world in which we live, and the remarkable different species with which we share it. Keep... it up David! 12.01.2022 Have you met? -> Hannah Jones Former Chief Sustainability Officer and President of the Innovation Accelerator of Nike . Hannah has been named one of the top professionals shaping the fashion industry. Shes actively changing the way companies view sustainability and social responsibility, from mandatory to an opportunity to innovate. . At Nike, she was instrumental in balancing the tension between resource productivity and customer value. Her work has resulted in innovat...ions that improve the performance of her products while reducing the environmental impact they cause. One example is the Flyknit-technology, which effectively creates the upper of a shoe from just a few fibers. The result is a production process that uses up to 80 percent fewer resources, resulting in a better and lighter shoe that improves athletic performance. Jones commitment to sustainable technologies has led to the necessary development at Nike. Today, she is the main person responsible for ensuring that Nike increasingly decouples its growth from scarcer resources. . What are your thoughts on the flyknit-technology? . 11.01.2022 While in many countries the first relaxations of the lockdown are being implemented and normality is emerging, the question remains what positive consequences the pandemic had for our environment. . Streets in New York remained empty, the sky over Delhi was clear and in many places animals invaded urban areas. . One measurement that could illustrate the effects of the virus is the "World overshoot day" - overshoot occurs when humanitys demand on nature exceeds what Earths ...ecosystems can renew in a year. . Humanitys efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic, and the resulting economic slowdown, have reduced humanitys Footprint. However, this is a far cry from the intentional changes we strive for. . The Global Footprint Network received many inquiries about the coronavirus pandemics impact on each countrys Ecological Footprint and Overshoot Day. It is still too early to tell as data on these significant changes are limited. . Current estimations forecast the world overshoot day 2020 for the 5th of June. Still 3 weeks earlier than 2019. We keep you updated for more information. In the meantime head over to the @globalfootprintnetwork and check out when your country passes or past its overshoot day. #overshootday #pandemic #coronavirus #venice #newyork #sustainableworld #savetheplanet @ Manhattan, New York

11.01.2022 What's your reaction to this? . Imagine you were the author... . Someone was properly sleepwalking here. ... . The author Martin Dorey said we worked with the printer to make it one of the most environmentally friendly books this year and then some idiot shrink-wrapped it in plastic without thinking . We think this is a classic example of the excessive and sometimes unnecessary use of plastic in our world. But the title of the book might be a bit one-sided. No plastic is not a solution either. In most cases it is by far the most sustainable solution. Even with packaging. It is all about the right use of plastic and other resources, right? What do you think? . 10.01.2022 Time to introduce another new category of us: Have you met...? Today with the great Paul Polman .... Paul Polman is Chair of the Board of the United Nations Global Compact. From 2009-2018 he served as Chief Executive Officer of Unilever. During his time there he acted as a role model of modern leadership and showed us how global change must originate from leaders of large organizations. . Polman turned his back on short-term profit as well as shareholder value. Instead he reset the focus on long-term goals and the sustainable development of Unilever. Exemplary, on his first day as CEO, Polman announced that Unilever would no longer provide guidance to Wall Street, and would eliminate quarterly reporting. . With Polman as CEO, Unilevers sustainable business model generated a 300% shareholder return over the last 10 years, double the rate of the market. Stunning 70% of this growth came from the sustainable products which the brand delivered. At a time when change seems more important and yet more challenging than ever, the world needs more leaders like Paul Polman! #paulpolman #sustainableleadership #sustainablebusiness #greenbusiness #sustainability #unilever #sustainableliving

10.01.2022 21.7 million tonnes of waste are deposited in landfill every year in Australia (National Waste Report Australia). The City of Sydney alone produces more than 2,000 tonnes of waste that goes to landfill every day, with no further opportunity for re-use, recycling or recovery for energy (City of Sydney - Waste strategy and action plan 2017-2030). 03.01.2022 14 PATTERNS OF BIOPHILIC DESIGN Improving Health & Well-Being in the Built Environment . What is biophilic Design?... Biophilic design can reduce stress, enhance creativity and clarity of thought, improve our well-being and expedite healing; as the world population continues to urbanize, these qualities are ever more important. Theorists, research scientists, and design practitioners have been working for decades to define aspects of nature that most impact our satisfaction with the built environment. 14 Patterns of Biophilic Design articulates the relationships between nature, human biology and the design of the built environment so that we may experience the human benefits of biophilia in our design applications. The patterns range from visible connection with nature to airflow variability or diffuse light. All patterns lay out a series of tools for understanding design opportunities, including the roots of the science behind each pattern, then metrics, strategies and considerations for how to use each pattern. Which patterns have you already incorporated in your home? Head over to the full paper about the 14 patterns from Terapin and improve your build environment towards health and well-being.
