16.01.2022 No doubt, you've bought rice, pasta and other dry goods, in this wild #coronavirus time. You are stocked up, but it is an expensive exercise. Here are some tips on fresh foods #foodstorage so you know what to get, and reduce waste and cost. Potatoes , sweet potato, onions, garlic and pumpkin can be stored in a dark place for up to a month.... Brocolli will be okay in the fridge for around 6 days, providing it is fresh to begin with. Same for cauliflower. Cabbage can go for longer, keep checking for spoils. Carrots can handle around 10 days in the fridge, and if they go a little soft, chuck them in ice water for a bit, and cook as normal. Tomatoes store well, up to 14 days, and if they go soft, cook them into a sauce. Salad leaves and spinach wilt, and lose nutrients quickly and should be used within a few days of purchase. Opposed to that, fresh packaged pre-cooked baby beetroots have a 3 month shelf life, when stored in the fridge. Bananas ripen quickly, so buy a few yellow ones, for immediate use, and green ones for later in the week. Apples store really well, and can be cooked if they start to shrivel. Soft fruit like berries and stone fruit must be eaten within a week to prevent spoilage. Eggs store well up to 4 weeks, but don't use them past their use-by date. However, yogurt can be used up to a few weeks past its use-by date, and will just keep "ripening", allowing the bacteria to increase the sourness a bit. Check for mould, and do not use if any is visible. Check all your foods regularly for rot or mould, and keep your fridge clean and well- ventilated #foodasmedicine #reducewaste #freshfood #naturalmedicineau #atms #accreditedmember #nutritionist #naturopathsdoitbetter #coronavirus

06.01.2022 Currently, a lot of information about the #coronavirus on (social) media is unreliable and is definitely #fakenews. This virus doesn't transmit via 2-minute noodles( they're not a good choice anyway!), nor does it come from eating tofu or Chinese food . However, you can be sensible about it all by *Washing hands regularly with soap for at least 30 seconds *Avoid coughing or sneezing into hands; use your elbow instead *Use hand sanitiser after using shopping trolleys or bask...ets, after filling up the (one of the most contaminated things in the world is a bowser's handle) and when on public transport *Eat well and fresh , so your immune system is ready *Supplements may benefit those with a reduced immunity *Follow advice from credible sources *See a professional if you have flu or cold - like symptoms Stay healthy, stay happy #healthyliving #naturalmedicineau #nutritionist #naturopath #stayhealthy #atms See more

04.01.2022 After weeks of inhaling toxic air, now (more than ever) is the time to eat a of fruits and vegetables . These wonderful foods all have essential antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to protect cells from damage. Even if you don't have an existing respiratory condition, you need to be mindful of the unprecedented conditions we experience now. Staying well hydrated with water is important for your airways too. Of course, you also need to follow general health advice such as wearing a P2 mask, limiting outdoor time, and keeping windows closed. Keep an eye on your pets, neighbours and wildlife, and please donate generously to accredited fundraisers. #bushfiresaustralia #airpollution #antioxidants #naturalmedicineau #nutritionist #atms #naturopath
