02.01.2022 In the centre of 5th Avenue in Playa Del Carmen today we witnessed the amazing ritual ceremony of The Bird Men the Papantla Flyers. Five men climb to the top of a huge and very thin pole to a tiny platform, then one stands up and dances, plays the flute AND a small drum in honor of the sun and the four elements which initiates the ritual. THEN in what can only be described as an act of either bravery or total craziness, the other four dancers who are tied to ropes throw ...themselves off the platform and fly around the pole in a spiral decent to the ground. The colour and drama of the ritual is quite a spectacle and a truly memorable MUST SEE when in Mexico. . .
