25.01.2022 Training requires perseverance, a bit of know-how, and the right equipment. That's all! // If you tick these three boxes, like @maxstu.art here, then you can train anywhere, and continually improve where others may deem it impossible. The Cliff Board Mini is a great portable, no-frills way to train wherever you find yourself! // Thanks for sharing your photo with us Max !

24.01.2022 Campus Pinches! // After some interest recently, we've made a limited batch of Campus Pinches! / They will soon be up on the site in both full-depth pinches as shown in these pictures, and half-depth pinches that will be about 2-pads deep. ... // We've just made a small batch, so if you're interested then you should grab them quick. 23.01.2022 The Lockdown Training Bunker // While Melbourne in Stage 4 lockdown gyms closed and crags inaccessible, @filkindblad is in his lockdown training bunker ready to emerge as a whole different beast // With two sets of Awesome Woodys campus rungs, a set of our Half-Balls, and a set of Rungs on the way (and a Moon Board!), I'd say he's just about all kitted out! Thanks for the share, Fil! Fil's words below: ... // "With Stage 4 lock down, rain, and training deload week.. A morning spent reconfiguring the #campusboard to make way for the @awesomewoodys slopers. Maybe one day there will be a full set, but some #moonboard jugs fill the spaces till then." See more

23.01.2022 Warming up at the crag! @carson_leong warming up on his Cliff Board before tackling some Hong Kong sea cliffs! You don't always need to hang your Cliff Board off a bolt! Using your Cliff Board's cord around your foot and pulling it to the required intensity is more than enough to warm up your fingers and forearms up Do a general whole body warm up, Some sets repeaters on the hangboard until you feel a light pump, Rest... Then do short maximal bursts on small holds where you are pulling at full intensity Rest some more - AND HYDRATE! Then you're good to hop on the wall and pull!!! The board is the Cliff Board Mini. The Mini is a great, versatile board for warming up and home training. For smaller pack-friendly boards, check out the Cliff Board Micro and Petite on our website! (Link in bio!)

23.01.2022 Wake up, Eat up, Warm Up, Climb! // For @1momentum his Cliff Board is a part of the whole journey // What else could you use the Cliff Board for?

23.01.2022 Moments like these // It's easy to get distracted by the moments we work towards in climbing, though sometimes it's the spontaneous moments that are given to us that makes climbing special. // Whether it's a a new friendship , seeing some wildlife , or a gorgeous sunset , for me these unplanned moments truly enrich the climbing experience. ... // Thanks to @setinstoneseq for the incredible of @alexmoogii basking in the sunset high at Frog Buttress on "Stonkers and Steroids". 21.01.2022 Always feel free to get in touch! // When @avaclimbs and her Dad reached out to ask for some extra Awesome Woodys stickers for their home wall, we were of course more than happy oblige and throw a stack of stickers their way! // If you've ever got a special request or a question you'd like to ask, always feel welcome to get in touch We're always more than happy to help out, and we get a lot out of it - being just an online store, we don't get much contact with our cust...omers, so it is always really fulfilling to connect with you awesome people where we can! // Thanks a lot for the picture, @avaclimbs and Michael. Happy training, and happy climbing! See more

21.01.2022 Sanding the 7 mm edges that go on our Home Boy hang boards is a precise business and a great way to trim down my fingernails at the same time. #2birdswith1stone #awesomewoodys #homeboyhangboard #fingertraining #strengthtraining #portablehangboards

19.01.2022 When your life takes you away from training, take your training away with you! // @lawwchris keeping up with his training on a trip to Grass Island in Hong Kong! Thanks for the Chris, and for the inspiration!

18.01.2022 Dream House? // This remains probably our favourite build so fastt! We built this wall for the owners of @chalk_monkey about 3 years ago, who were so psyched on climbing they not only brought it into their home but into their living room! // As luck has it the house is up for sale! If you're looking to move into the Brisbane suburbs and have a heart for climbing, go get it!

15.01.2022 Jugs aren't just for chin ups! // The jugs on the Home Boy aren't just for chin ups, they're also super handy for scapular shrugs to improve shoulder strength and encourage properly engaging the shoulders when climbing, which is all too easy to forget when focusing on the climbing and not the micro-beta of the movement itself. // of @lucyclimbing getting her shoulders warm before a hangboard session!

15.01.2022 The Home Boy // Finely crafted and comfortable timber edges from 20mm all the way down to 7mm micro-crimpers, the Home Boy is designed to be that dedicated training buddy that won't ever bail on a session with a lame excuse like "doing the groceries" or "taking care of the kids". No, this board will see you through every training session , every project sent or fallen off of, and every grade plateau pushed through. With all the edges you need, and being crafted to a high sta...ndard, the Home Boy will be with you for life // Crafted in Brisbane, Australia using sustainable methods and materials that will take care of your fingers and take care of the planet. No plastics, just renewable plantation timber // Click on the picture and check out the board on our website! We ship world-wide See more

14.01.2022 "We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us." - Marshall McLuhan // A day in the workshop is spent performing process after process, inching one step getting closer to crafting the finished product ... yet what is the finished product? We don't craft training tools simply to craft training tools, we do it to make better climbers. Every moment we spend, every adjustment we make, and each and every acute detail is done to make better climbers - as we can't make better climbers, so we make training tools that can. // Great from a few years back now by @petercrane - Thanks mate!

11.01.2022 Packing the Edgies! // Are small crimps your enemy? Make them your friend! If you don't have small crimps on your hangboard, then our Awesome Woodys Edgies are the way to go. // Made from Tasmanian Oak , they come in 3 sizes - 10mm, 8mm, and 6mm - and have a finely crafted edge radius that is remarkably comfortable given how small the edges are You can get them in pairs, or grab the full set!... // We're also thinking about making larger sizes or in-between sizes - let us know what you think? 11.01.2022 Create your training space! // Having a training space, somewhere convenient that you can go without distraction whenever you want, can be transformational. // A space that offers you full focus, where the goals that you are training for are present at the forefront of your mind. This space can be as big as a gargantuan purpose-built climbing shed with multiple moon boards ( @leecujes) or as compact as this door frame Home Boy and Half Balls set up by @mattheiu_burgess ... // by @mattheiu_burgess. His words below! // "New training setup! Plenty of diversity, super solid and renting friendly. Time to set some personal bests!" See more

11.01.2022 It was fantastic to welcome @vincenttranscends from @suikastudios into the Awesome Woodys workshop this morning, and start documenting the journey of a Cliff Board from the workshop to the hands of on of you psyched climbers! // It's not often we get visitors in the workshop, so it's really refreshing and gratifying to share what we do // The boards pictured are two fresh Cliff Board Regulars, which are the perfect training companion for you if you are in a rental where you can't drill in to the wall and need a board that you can hang up off a tree or anywhere Check them out in the photo link!

11.01.2022 Workshop Conversations be like ... // Here at Awesome Woodys HQ (aka. "hot tin shed") we have scintillating conversations on the daily. They mostly go like this.

11.01.2022 Sometimes you've just gotta make it work! Here in Brisbane its been heating up something fierce, but the training must go on! Not everyone has a state of the art air-conditioned, home training facility (cough cough @leecujes ). Sometimes all you've got to work with is the downstairs of a rental where you battle the arvo sun armed with a humble blue tarp and two fans! ... Some tips for training in the 1 It's a good time for training in larger holds that are less conditions and skin dependent than minimal edge training - so short max hangs and repeater-style on large holds are your friend! 2 Keep your board in good nick! Brush between sets! 3 FANS! They are your friends. Have a fan blowing over the board and yourself to keep board temps and body temps cool! The Home Boy (pictured) is the perfect home board! With holds from 20mm - 7mm, you've got plenty of good options for winter and summer training, and the quality timber means that you'll save your skin!

10.01.2022 CLIMBING PSYCHOLOGY: "A climbing gym for your mindset"" // Physical training is hard, though oftentimes mental training is harder. This is why many people shy away from even acknowledging mental training, even when the positive effects of mental training can be highly significant. The strongest fingers in the world mean nothing if the mind can't perform // I encourage everybody to head over to @climbingpsychology They run 1-on-1 sessions for everybody from the everyday c...limber to an athlete vying for the Olympics, and also courses for coaches in how to better coach athletes. I personally haven't done these though have learnt loads through their insightful Insta posts and blog posts. // Madeleine Crane (@_madeleinecrane) is the founder of Climbing Psychology and is highly knowledgeable in the field, being a qualified Sports Psychologist and having competed as a professional climber herself. Not only this, but she's an incredibly positive person to be around, and an all-round great human! // Everyone has strengths and weaknesses across a massive range of factors that can affect your performance and training, whether it be motivation, regulating your emotions, sleep issues, goal-settting, anxiety, fear, body-image or self-concept. The game of climbing is an incredibly multi-faceted sport, and the mental aspect of it is very complex. @climbingpsychology can help See more

10.01.2022 Its the little things! // We stamp the edge depth of all our hangboards, campus rungs and edges so that you know exactly what you're training on! This makes your training comparable and measurable // Also have to give credit to my mouth and tea cup for the quality sound effects

10.01.2022 Whether you're slacklining and hang-boarding on your Cliff Board in the park, or high up on the rock, have a rad weekend everyone! by the legends at @bigyakadventures

08.01.2022 Just another day at the Awesome Woodys workshop! // We don't often get visitors at the workshop, but when we do it's always a treat!

08.01.2022 Climbing your best is a subtle art! A great send is always a combination of many small actions all linking together in the moment .......... And likewise training for those great sends is incredibly subtle. .......... An example is the 2mm difference in edge size on our Edgies, not much , but it could take months of dedicated training to move down just 2 mm in size and even longer again to hang the smaller ones. ........... Another example is campus training and campus rungs......... The difference between our new square cut rungs and the traditional rungs is hard to see and only 15 degrees. Subtle, but a whole lot of different strengths and techniques are required to train on each. Stay healthy,Stay strong,Be kind and Happy training.

08.01.2022 Fresh batch of 140 mm half balls straight off the lathe and ready for drilling the bolt hole and counter sink. If you have an order with us we will be shipping it out tomorrow.

07.01.2022 Can always do with MORE POWER! There's definitely a taboo around saying "I'm not strong enough". It's not a helpful mindset to have in the moment, as it's distracting you from figuring out a way to climb better! However, sometimes it's okay to say you're not strong enough as inevitably at some point you will need to be stronger. More strength and more POWER is always handy! We have a wide selection of campus rungs, sloper rails, and system half-balls, with a few really ...exciting additions to come to our Campus Range soon! Stay tuned!!! Find it all on our website, or photo links above from a fantastic morning last week with the one and only @setinstoneseq shooting some lifestyle shots for the website out at @coreclimbaus!

07.01.2022 Today in the workshop it was Pinch Block day! // Made a big batch of Pinch Blocks with some subtle changes that significantly improves their comfort and usability. // With 5 different pinch sizes you can train your pinch strength at all pinch angles, and with the crimps of varying depths you can really specify the pinch grip you train on to simulate that specific crux hold on your project @ Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

07.01.2022 Sometimes it's the scenery that makes it just as much enjoyable as the climbing! This gorgeous is of Awesome Woodys athlete, good friend, and all-round manifester of insane osyche @petercrane on one of his FAs in La Maddalena, Italy. As always, love your work, Pete! Pete's Words: "A line that climbs as beautiful as the boulder itself. Appropriately named "La Madeleine" "

05.01.2022 For that crimp on the proj that you just can't hold .. // Most hangboards don't have micro-edges on them. It's hard to make them right; A lot of attention to detail is needed in the edge radius. Make it to sharp and it's painful, or too rounded and it's impossible to hold // On the 10mm, 8mm, and. 6mm Edgies, the radius is just right Great as an addition to your training setup, or as a minimal setup on its own. Find them on our website link in bio!

05.01.2022 . - The devil is in the detail. // All our rails are drilled by hand. Yes, it's arduous, though it's the best way to ensure that they are aligned perfectly, and with enough glue so that the rail is bombproof! Notice that the screw goes through the whole way to increase the overall bomberness (I think that's a word?) of the bottom rails. // It is these intricate details that makes us so proud of our training tools, and we are constantly finding incremental ways to improve them!

05.01.2022 THE SECRET TO IMPROVEMENT // Earlier this year, after only a few years of local climbing, Kyle Addy (@bush_whacked.1998) sent Brown Corduroy Trousers placing gear ground-up. The climb is Queensland's hardest trad climb at 28/5.13a and hasn't seen a local send in years - perhaps over a decade. It has an aura about it, and for Kyle to have redpointed the Trousers after only ~2 years of climbing is a significant feat! // Kyle may seem like he's got superpowers though he doe...sn't (I think?). He doesn't have a mystery hang-boarding protocol, and there's no secret sauce or magic pill - what sets him apart is his amazing ability to look at any climb, no matter their grade or reputation, and say "I'll give it a go". He doesn't let expectations or fear of failing hold him back. He doesn't place ceilings above him, so he exposes himself to the wealth of learning and experience that comes with simply trying harder climbs irrespective of whether they're outside his perceived limits. // This isn't a superpower that only Kyle has access to, everyone has the ability to put themselves out there and try. So next time you see a climb and say "I'd love to do that one day", JUST TRY! // A classic by @setinstoneseq of Kyle Addy AKA. K-Daddy in full send-mode placing the crucial wire below the crux of Brown Corduroy Trousers. See more

04.01.2022 Positivity and a constructive mindset // Loving the psyche and positivity coming from @carl_saptarshiN Happy training mate, and all the best! Carl's words below: "Since the start of the year, I've been in and out of injury, and with lack of rest, and a creeping TFCC wrist injury, my progress slowed down massively. Since the lockdown began, I've been able to give myself ample rest and really focus on my rehab given by @o3_performance to help me get the strength back in my wrists. Since I can't mount a hangboard anywhere, I got a hangboard from @awesomewoodys to start training again as the injuries have cleared. The best bit is that it has a 30mm, and 20mm edge to train on whilst I reintroduce my fingers to hangboarding! Strength will come slowly but surely and I'm excited to see the results once I can climb again!"

04.01.2022 How a day in the workshop looks through our eyes! // We've though about laser-etching our logo to save time, though adding the logo is one of the final touches to the board, and branding the logo on feels like a much more personal way to sign off each board Not to mention that it's just way cooler (or hotter?). // PS - If you're wondering how I took this video, I can't tell - It's a trade secret between my Go Pro and my mouth.

04.01.2022 A bit of tessellation fun in the workshop! // Made up a batch of Cliff Board Petites today, and I couldn't help but think that they are my favourite Cliff Board size, and yet they probably sell he least out of our entire range! One literally lives in my climbing pack, and I warm up on it without fail before every climbing session to ensure that my fingers are primed to pull at their limit and reduce my chance of injury // Here's why they're my personal go-to: 1 The Peti...te is extremely lightweight at 280 grams. 2 It is literally pocket-sized yet still has space for one hand comfortably, or two hands with a bit of a squeeze 3 It has a 30mm, 20, and 12mm edges, as well as a jug and pockets so you can easily warm up your tendons, arms, and upper body // It's the perfect, throw in your pack warm up board that you won't even know is there, but will unlock your climbing potential after warm up properly! Check them out on or website or on the picture link See more

04.01.2022 Continuing on from our warm up post a few days ago, here is a great practical way to warm up properly before your project burn - Post Activation Potentiation // Here is a quick but solid run down on preparing effectively on the day for your project burn by making use of Post Activation Potentiation. Duncan Brown from @athletebychoice takes you through a very practical method of preparing yourself to pull at your maximum potential, so that your send burn is as likely to su...cceed as possible! // It amazes me how many of us neglect a proper warm up like this before pulling hard. This one could be a game changer for many, so listen up! // The Cliff Board Petite and Cliff Board Micro are perfect warm up boards for taking the crag, with the Petite being one of the lightest yet most versatile on the market. We've just made up a fresh batch so make sure to get one off our website to take with you on your next climbing day! See more

04.01.2022 Recruit those fingers this weekend! // Have any amazing weekend whether on plastic or on rock, now that both options are opening up at most places! // It's amazing what a proper warm up will do to to improve your performance. Make sure to recruit your pulling strength before you pull into the wall. This means warming up to the point where you can you're able to pull at close to max capacity on the board on the ground before you hop on the wall to give a maximal effort. Oth...erwise, you make be wasting your time on the route, climbing it when you're not warmed up enough to pull the moves. // Using a warm up board is the best way to ensure your fingers are fully recruited and ready to pull at your max. Check out the Cliff Board Petite and Micro on our website (in bio), or click the picture product labels to get yours now! See more

03.01.2022 Repetition, muscle memory, and constant focus // Most days either Ross or myself (Alex) are in the workshop making products or brainstorming new ones. It can be repetitive work - Wax on, wax off style - and you tap into a flow state mindset in which you can be very efficient. However in this flow state you can't just let it take over, because then errors can be easily made. You need to ensure that each action you take is perfect and precise. Its a strange tug of war bet...ween muscle memory and maintaining constant relaxed focus. // These attributes are the same in climbing. Projecting is repetitive business, and that relaxed flow state is where you want to be to perform optimally. Focus too hard and you'll overthink things, focus too little and you'll stumble. There's probably a term for this, so if you know please share in the comments! // Long story short. Working in the workshop is similar to climbing, but it pays better and is slightly less fun. Only slightly See more

02.01.2022 Turn your space into your training space! // With a hang board at home, you can squeeze in some finger training when you otherwise couldn't. Maybe the gym is closed , or the kids are sick or work went late . Sometimes life simply gets in the way. With a hangboard at home, you can squeeze in a finger training session in as little as an hour, to ensure that the most crucial strength in climbing - finger strength - are still getting the training and overloading that they ne...ed // Dedicating your mind fully to training for the session is ideal, though if you are quite time-challenged you could always multi-task! You could do some hangs between hanging out clothes on the line , doing some cleaning, or playing with the kids // @judithtiefenthaler training hard at home on her Cliff Board Mini's 15mm edge in Vorarlberg, Austria See more

02.01.2022 FRESH NEW SHORT FILM by @vincenttranscends Link in bio!!! Brown Corduroy Trousers - Queenslands hardest Trad climb - gets climbed maybe once every three years, and rarely by locals. This year it saw two back-to-back sends by @bush_whacked.1998 and Awesome Woodys staff member @alexmoogii Their story was all captured masterfully by the one and only @vincenttranscends ... This is his first climbing film, though you wouldn't oick it! A true video talent, I'm looking forwar...d to seeing what else he makes! His words below! @vincenttranscends Presenting The Trousers: A joint project between Kyle Addy (@bush_whacked.1998) and Alex Mougenot (@alexmoogii) on Queensland’s hardest trad climb. LINK IN BIO After many a month in the editing lab, I’ve finally been able to piece together my first longer length climbing film/short film/doco piece, or call it what you like. Massive thanks to Kyle and Alex for getting me on board this project of theirs, I’ve not often been so psyched to wake up at 4:30am multiple weekends in a row to capture the process. Also to @setinstoneseq for offering me some valuable tips while shooting on the wall! It was one of my biggest challenges yet, trying to weave together an engaging and coherent story in this extended form, not like anything else I’ve done before. . I never would’ve completed this task without Kyle hounding me every few weeks on my progress, as I was stuck in some heavy periods of procrastination. Big thanks also to everyone who made it to the live living room screening! 50% of the proceeds I’ve made from that will go to ACAQ and the other 50% to my mate Lef’s gofundme for his climbing accident related hospital costs. If you’d also like to support him, his gofundme page can be found here: https://gf.me/u/yvyhqb Hope you guys enjoy the film, I’m super stoked to finally have it out there for everyone else to enjoy!
