25.01.2022 MOSS WOOD SEMILLON 2013 I confess, I don’t drink enough Semillon. This Moss Wood Semillon from Margaret River, Western Australia is bright and sophisticated.... The nose and palate project a delicious blend of lemon and lime with the gentlest hint of brioche. The acidity has zest and the mouth-feel a touch of oiliness, two attributes I associate with good Semillon. The abv is 13.5% a big higher than many Hunter Valley Semillons (11.5%). The only downside was that this wine was so smooth and easy to drink that much of it seemed to evaporate from the bottle while I was enjoying just a single glass! iS Winescale 7.0pts Great quality. 13.01.2022 SAPERAVI from Georgia The Saperavi grape originated in Georgia (Black Sea Georgia not the USA State). Saperavi is a TEINTURIER grape i.e. a red grape with dark flesh. Most red grapes have clear flesh.... Other Teinteurier grapes include Alicante Bouschet, Petit Bouschet & Chambourcin. This wine is deepest, darkest cherry colour almost black. The nose has a wonderful burst of blackberries with a background of leather, cedar and tobacco. The long palate reverses the nose offering dark flavours of leather, tobacco and cedar accompanied by strong but pleasant drying tannins against a backdrop of blackberries. All in all, a fascinating wine. A limited number of Australian winemakers make a Saperavi wine. Use the AWESOMME Quick Search option to find some Saperavi wines to try.
