25.01.2022 Meet Paddy . Paddy is a sweet little mini lop bunny who is just over a year old. Paddy is really affectionate and once he’s on your knee is happy to just chill there all day getting spoilt. He isn’t however particularly fond of the being picked up bit though so he’s not suitable for young children. Adoption fee $80 Paddy is desexed and vaccinated and is looking for an indoor home. ... 24.01.2022 Do you ever think to yourself, what have I done meet the cutest ugly babies we've ever had. There are 11 of these little baby pigeons who needed to be moved due to the roof their nests were under needing to be removed to renovate a building in the CBD. They don't really fit into any rescue group not being natives but we couldnt just leave them to die either so here we are. Thank you to the builders that rang everybody they could think of to find somewhere for them. Not really sure what we do next

24.01.2022 Did you know that the lovely staff at Petstock South Nowra have nominated our branch to be the recipients of their Christmas Wishing Tree donations. A big thank you to everyone who has made a donation so far! Your donations will help us to keep rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals in need in the Shoalhaven. xx

If you would like more information please click on the application link below and our Dog Officer will contact you shortly to discuss. https://form.jotform.com/deborahknox/adopt-a-dog... 24.01.2022 Lola has been adopted! Meet Miss Lola, she is a beautiful 4 year old Poodle x Labrador with the Poodle looks and the Labrador personality. She is a very active girl and so is looking for a family with plenty of time to spend with her. She is a water loving giant lap dog. She has had some training and is mostly obedient though she is a little selective when it comes to coming when called so needs a little time reinforcing this. She walks beautifully next to you on t...he lead. She is great with other dogs but we do not advise adoption to a home with cats. She will need regular clipping so that her coat doesnt get matted but is very well behaved while this is done. Lola has been desexed, microchipped and vaccinated and has had a vet check. Adoption Fee - $700 If you think that Lola might be the girl for you please complete our application form below and our Dog Welfare Officer will get back to you shortly. Please be patient as we are a volunteer organisation so we will contact you when able. APPLICATIONS CLOSED AWL NSW Rehoming Organisation Number: R251000222

22.01.2022 We have some very ferocious new additions. . Meet Cupcake and Sprinkles. These two little kittens seem to have lost their mum as they were found about 50m from each other, one on a driveway and one on top of a wire fence and nowhere near any hidey spots. So looks like they’d been searching for mum and food. They are a little bit of a mystery as size wise at just 317g and 360g they should only be about 3 weeks old and too young to be worried by someone patting them. But, they have all their teeth, so despite being so teeny tiny that means they are at least 6 weeks old. We will keep you posted on their progress in the hissing and growling department

21.01.2022 We have been asked to assist in rehoming a domestic pigeon who has lost its flock. Pigeons need to either be in an aviary or part of a large flock to protect them from predators. For more information send us a message and we can pass your details onto the person who has rescued it.

20.01.2022 Launching our Great Big Food, Fun and Supplies drive for the month of October!! A big thank you to the team at Petbarn Nowra for supporting our drive! There will be a big yellow donation bin in store at Petbarn Nowra (near Officeworks) for the collection of food, toys and other essentials that are desperately needed to help us keep our rescue and rehoming programs running. So next time you are going past why not call on in and say Hi to the lovely staff and drop off an ite...m for the animals into our collection bin. Every little bit you give helps add up to make a big difference to the lives of the animals in our care and with our normal means of fundraising not available to us due to COVID we are depending more than ever on the generosity of the public. We are looking for small pet blankets, food bowls, Royal Canin Mother and Babycat wet and dry, Felix kitten and adult, My Dog wet food, Cat and dog toys, small scratching posts, litter trays, Breeders Choice litter just to name a few! . All our rescue and rehoming is funded entirely through donations to our branch and our fundraising, we receive no government funding to assist us, so a big thank you to everybody who helps us keep our branch up and rescuing!!!

20.01.2022 Do you, or someone you know have a litter of kittens? Please do not give kittens away for free or undesexed! Statistics show that the majority of them will go on to repeat the cycle and have kittens themselves. If you have a litter of kittens please contact us on 0429 429885 and we can assist with rehoming instead. All kittens surrendered to AWL NSW will be desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and registered and then be placed up for adoption to good homes. ... We can also assist you with the cost to desex the mother cat so that this litter can be her last litter.

20.01.2022 Well it’s official. Kitten season has arrived this week in the form of a pregnant mummy cat, four sweet little kittens (not ready for adoption yet) and a wonderful gift box of supplies and kitten onesies from the clever crafters at ARCG. Thanks ARC!! #ARCG #AnimalRescueCraftGuild #ARC #AnimalRescueCooperative

18.01.2022 Magpies are very clever so if you are feeding so they don’t swoop remember once they accept you are a friend you can stop and they will still recognise you and keep you on their no swoop list.

18.01.2022 Did you know that we have desexed, microchipped and vaccinated Barn Cats available for adoption? A working cat, or barn cat, is a cat who provides a service natural rodent control in return for regular meals and a roof over their head. Farms, rural properties, horse properties, grain stores, warehouses and industrial areas can all benefit from adopting a working cat who is not friendly enough to fit into a regular family home. ... HOW IT WORKS By day, the cat does their own thing (mostly sleeping) By night, they patrol the property and keep rodents at bay, avoiding the need for traps and harmful pesticides. In exchange for the cat’s service, the adopter provides food, water, shelter and health care when needed, just like for a ‘house cat’. The only difference is that they don’t expect smooches. If you would like to find out more please give us a call on 0429 429885

18.01.2022 Here is a kitty-cam snap of our pregnant kitten that came into care this week. She has a rather sad, yet unfortunately all too common story. Calliope is a roughly 9 month old kitten who is now heavily pregnant with her own kittens. Her mother was dumped when pregnant and so she has grown up as a street cat. Her kittens were destined to repeat the process but luckily for them someone contacted us for help and so now they will get to go to loving homes instead, but they ...are the lucky ones. Most just continue to repeat the process for generations when abandoned by owners like this. The moral of this story? Never dump a cat or kittens. We can help with desexing the mother cat and then desex, vaccinate and rehome the kittens. Ph 0429 429885 for more information. We can also help if you are wanting to desex a cat or kitten but struggling with the cost with our $50 desexing vouchers for pension or health care card holders. Kittens should be desexed at 12-14 weeks of age. For more info on desexing call 0403 071 497

16.01.2022 Sweet Charli is looking for a home again. Sadly her new home didn’t work out so she is back in care and looking for a home again. At 7 years old she’s really just around middle age. We don’t consider ourselves past our best at that point in our lives and neither does beautiful Miss Charli. While she loves to lay around and snooze of a day she still manages an evening zoomies so has plenty of years in her yet. She just loves to be brushed and scratched and will roll over ...so you don’t miss any spots. She enjoys just chilling with you, curled up next to you on the lounge but she’s far too independent to like being picked up and carted around or forced onto a lap. She has always been an inside cat and will be happy to stay as one. Her long dark coat would make her very high risk for ticks if allowed outside. https://form.jotform.com/AWLShoalDogs/cat-enquiry AWL NSW Rehoming Organisation Number: R251000222

15.01.2022 Buddy has been adopted!! Meet Buddy, he is a 9 1/2 year old Mini foxie x who still thinks hes a teenager! He would suit an active older couple or single person who is home more often than not. He loves going for walks so much that he almost puts his harness on himself. He is very obedient and has had some training in his life.He loves to go the beach and he walks on the lead very well and doesn't pull at all. He sits to wait for you to serve his dinner and as soon as... you say ok he tucks right in so he's not a fussy eater and has a good appetite. He will bark if he is outside where he can see or hear other people around but will stop when called. Adoption Fee $400 - Buddy's adoption fee is more than we would normally charge for an older dog but we have had to give him a full dental with extractions so he has been a very expensive little fellow for us to get ready for adoption. Buddy is desexed, microchiped, vaccinated, heart worm tested negative and has had a vet check. If you think that Buddy might be the fellow for you please complete our application form below and our Dog Welfare Officer will get back to you shortly. Please be patient as we are a volunteer organisation so we will contact you when able. APPLICATIONS CLOSED AWL NSW Rehoming Organisation Number: R251000222

15.01.2022 Update - Sadly little Butters is not responding to treatment and is in a lot of pain and so after consultation with our vets the difficult decision has been made that the kindest thing is to let her go peacefully. Thank you all for thinking of her and to our vets and vet nurses for caring for her. Lots of prayers for little Butters. She’s been rushed to the emergency vet tonight with complications from her bowel surgery. She is such a little fighter keep everything crossed... she manages to fight through this. You can also help by making a small donation towards her emergency care by visiting our donation page https://www.givenow.com.au/awlnsw-shoalhaven.

15.01.2022 TICK DANGER - HIGH Please check your animals for ticks and make sure their tick protection is up to date!! We have just been informed about a poor little kitten that was found in Berry with multiple ticks and with paralysis too advanced to be saved. Even tick treatments are not 100% effective so check your animals daily and keep them out of scrubby areas and long grass. Cats being quite small are at high risk of death from ticks so the safest place for your cat is always indoors or in an outdoor cat run.

This fantastic collaboration will also increase the resources available when visiting drought-affected regions and other disadvantaged towns who need our help. It will mean that we will have more Vets on hand to aid with our desexing, vaccination and microchipping drives! How good is that! Having seen the capabilities of our Mobile Vet Truck, Vets Beyond Borders were keen to provide Veterinarian and Vet Nurse volunteers to continue our vital work in providing vet care to those who need it most, and we are so excited to see where this partnership will go! Watch this space as we work together to get on the road with the Mobile Vet Truck in the near future!

10.01.2022 Vegemite has been adopted!! Poor little Vegemite is still searching for a home. She thought she had one lined up but unfortunately they changed their minds so she is still searching for a family of her own. Vegemite is a 15 week old female domestic short hair. She hates being alone, within no time at her foster home she worked out how to get out the sliding door to her kitten room and run upstairs to be with the family. She would love a person who is home a lot or alre...ady has an existing kitten friendly dog or cat or plans to add a second kitten so she has company. Vegemite is currently being fostered in the Kiama area. Adoption fee $200. Includes desexing, vaccination and microchipping. 09.01.2022 Buzz has been adopted. Meet our adorable little boy Buzz. Buzz is a confident, laid back little fellow that just loves playing tug of war and chase the rope, having cuddles on the lounge and belly scratches. You might say he is an old soul that's been here before. We are looking for an owner with some experience/adequate knowledge/willingness to learn by attending puppy training classes as Buzz is a crossbreed with characteristics of English staffy, Australian Terrier and Shar Pei. Buzz will benefit from being properly socialised with other dogs and people and will require regular exercise like going for a walk each day to the park or beach. 08.01.2022 IMPORTANT REMINDER - Remember when you dispose of your masks in the bin always cut the elastic first. And yes it might be frustrating for you when they ask you to wear them but throwing on the ground when you leave places like the hospital achieves nothing but things like this. Take it home and put it in your bin after cutting the elastic.

07.01.2022 SCAM ALERT!! It is a legal requirement to add a microchip, breeder or rescue number on any add selling an animal with a $320 fine if you are found in breach of this law. This (photos below) is why you should insist that anyone you are buying from supply one. Same breeder two different stories. Obviously a scammer as she seems to live in Sydney, Perth and Brisbane. This was from a puppy advertised for sale on an Illawarra buy and sell group.... Check for a microchip, breeder or rescue organisation number on the add. If not supplied don’t fall for the Ill message it to you line. Legitimate sellers have no issues with complying and listing these numbers publicly. 04.01.2022 Bad news folks. Our AWL NSW Shoalhaven rescue van broke down the other night and it’s not good news . We are looking at costs to repair which could run into the thousands and struggling to find an auto electrician locally able to tackle that level of difficulty. Totally devastated as with an area as large as the Shoalhaven our van is such an important part of our rescue work. We did just over 1,000 kms in the first month of the COVID shutdown alone. If you are able to make ...even a small donation to help us with the cost of repairs it would be greatly appreciated. All those little donations add up to make a big difference! https://www.givenow.com.au/awlnsw-shoalhaven Hopefully we can get it up and running again soon

04.01.2022 If you needed a little bit of a nudge to get you to desex your cat the news story below might just be what you needed. 03.01.2022 We all know somebody with a rescue dog, but did you know we have rescue cats too? The mother of this poor kitten was dumped on the streets by someone who didn’t want to bother dealing with a pregnant cat. There she had to scrounge for enough food for not just herself but her growing kittens. Her kitten would have gone on to repeat the cycle trying to survive day to day except she was lucky enough to be trapped and come into our scaredy-kitten program. Miss Molly is around 6 ...months old and now learning what it’s like to be an inside cat who gets three good meals a day, toys to play with and love and affection from humans. She is coming out of her shell and blossoming into an adorable little girl who just loves to play ball. In about a months time she will be ready to look for a family of her very own through foster to adopt. If you would like to help us rescue these poor little ones off the street you can find out more about becoming a scaredy-kitten Carer and then adopting when ready by completing our Carer form and we will ring to discuss. https://form.jotform.com/Awlshoalhaven/carer-agreement or you can help us with some of the costs involved in their rehabilitation. Every kitten needs to be desexed and vaccinated when it comes into our program. https://www.givenow.com.au/awlnsw-shoalhaven

02.01.2022 Every year around this time, the weather starts to warm up and the undesexed cats start to breed. The biggest thing we can all do to help is encourage cat owners to get out there and desex their cats before the annual flood of kittens begins. That is the number one way to help reduce the numbers of kittens and cats dumped each year and the numbers that rescue organisations such as ours struggle to rehome. If you know someone with a cat, ask them, Have you desexed your ca...t yet? If you know someone in the Shoalhaven doing it tough let them know we offer $50 Desexing to anyone with a health care card or a pension card. Share our post. Let’s get the word out this year and see if we can stop the annual flood this kitten season!

01.01.2022 Meet Beau and his mate Kevin. These two are a bonded pair and so we are looking for a home together for them. Beau is a 4 year old male mini-foxie with a bit of wire haired Jack Russell thrown in the mix and Kevin is a 7 year old Jack Russell Cross. They are full of energy, especially Kevin, so would suit a home where they will get lots of walks and playtime so they don't get bored. They would be better without cats as they think they are for chasing. The boys have both be...en vaccinated, microchipped, desexed and had a vet check done. If you would like more information please click on the application link below and our Dog Officer will contact you shortly to discuss. https://form.jotform.com/deborahknox/adopt-a-dog Please be patient as it can take us a few days to sort through all the applications and then get back to everybody.
