24.01.2022 Would you like to host an online kitchen table discussion about palliative care services and resources? HURRY, expressions of interest close tomorrow. . Health Consumers Queensland has an opportunity for three consumers or carers in the Brisbane South PHN (BSPHN) region to facilitate consultation with local community members to understand what palliative care services and resources are available in community and if they are meeting their needs. . 23.01.2022 Important Changes to the Powers of Attorney Act 1998 Temporary modifications have been made to the Powers of Attorney Act 1998 to reduce physical contact between people during the COVID-19 emergency. Due to physical distancing requirements, it is difficult for people to meet existing requirements for witnessing wills, Enduring Power of Attorney and Advance Health Directive forms. Witness availability has also become an issue with the closure of the Justices of the Peace (J...Ps) in the Community Program. . Changes include: the ability for witnessing of wills, Enduring Power of Attorney and Advance Health Directive forms to be completed via video enabling nurse practitioners, in addition to doctors, to carry out capacity assessments necessary for people to make an Advance Health Directive permitting doctors or nurses to conduct the capacity assessment using video. . These changes will expire on 31 December 2020. . For more information visit: https://palliativecareqld.org.au/important-changes-to-the-/ See more

11.01.2022 Ali Van Den Berg was always generous when it came to sharing her time and her energy, even while she spent her final months in the care of Hopewell Hospice on the Gold Coast. When the 85-year-old was told about the new charity program, Ambulance Wish Queensland (AWQld), she didn’t feel like she needed the service herself, but she wanted to help ensure others would have the opportunity for a Last Wish. With the support of her nurse Kylie and the hospice, which is part of Wesley Mission Queensland, Ali rallied her friends and family to fill three hampers with donations to raise money for AWQld. Ali died in the loving care of the hospice at Arundel on February 13. Hopewell Hospice is now raffling the hampers to help fulfil Ali’s Last Wish to support AWQld and you can make a donation in Ali’s memory to https://www.givenow.com.au/awqld
