19.01.2022 Scott Morrison is looking to bring in new anti-worker laws as early as this week Our time is running out to pressure parliamentarians to block this dangerous bill and protect working people. Some of the dangers included in this bill are; rolling back penalties for wage theft, hurting job security, stripping overtime pay from part-time workers and restricting civil construction workers rights to negotiate. ... A small number of crossbench politicians in the Senate will be the difference between these laws being stopped, or being passed into law. Email the crossbench and SHARE this post to block the bill: https://loom.ly/QZbndE0 We hope we can count on your support, the fate of our working rights and conditions is in your hands.
17.01.2022 Applus+ has refused to engage constructively with the Offshore Alliance (AWU and MUA) and now we’re fighting back. Our members have overwhelmingly supported taking industrial action after Applus+ failed to dictate pay and conditions of members by forcing individual contracts on them. Only an EBA can deliver the job security and better conditions they deserve. Applus+ has left us with no choice but to take industrial action. In response, employers are attempting to change the... notice period by exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic, a cynical and unacceptable move. Applus+ has a very simple decision to make, either genuinely engage with the Offshore Alliance and deliver what our members deserve or face industrial action. 17.01.2022 Last night we hosted our Geraldton and surrounds members at the Murchison Tavern. Our regional members work hard to keep WA’s economy moving. Whether they’re shipping grain, keeping your water taps flowing, in mining or ensuring safe travel on WA roads. Thank you to everyone who attended our Geraldton Members’ Dinner. A special shout-out to CBH Port Team B who were on nightshift and unable to attend.
17.01.2022 Kylie is one of our amazing delegates at the Willowdale Bauxite Minesite near Waroona. The mine supplies bauxite ore to the Wagerup Alumina Refinery. It is her belief that we are stronger together and must work collectively to achieve our goals on site. These values have ensured Kylie has become an active union member in her workplace. Kylie appreciates not having to worry about whether her wages and conditions will change. Because the AWU negotiating team always has her back and ensures she gets a better deal at work year on year. #strongertogether
16.01.2022 Last Saturday night we held a Steggles members' dinner and today the WA Branch was onsite at their Osborne Park factory hosting a members’ BBQ. Our Steggles members rose to meet the challenges of COVID-19. Implementing and continuing increased social distancing and hygiene routines while producing more chicken than ever. Our WA Branch caps were popular but not as much as the beanies. With much of the factory being a cool room we know they'll put them to good use! ... PS - Don't forget, Union chicken is good chicken. So pick one up for dinner!
15.01.2022 Happy International Women’s Day! Yesterday afternoon the AWU WA Branch’s very own Alice Fitzgerald and Secretary Brad Gandy hosted our International Women’s Day Sundowner. Our union is full of strong and passionate women who are leaders within the union movement. A special thank you to all the hard working female members, delegates and leaders who attended and those who #choosetochallenge in their workplace every day keeping our union strong.... We’d also like to thank Maurice Blackburn Lawyers for sponsoring the event and for the quality legal advice Gemma Taylor and her team provide to AWU members daily. Last but not least, thank you to former trade union official and the first woman to be elected as the President of the Legislative Council in WA, Hon Kate Doust MLC for sharing her knowledge and experience with our members. Women make our union strong.
14.01.2022 WA Branch Secretary, Brad Gandy and Geraldton Organiser Jeff Pratt onsite talking with our Geraldton CBH Port and Water Corp Members. We provided an EBA negotiations update to our Water Corp members and discussed the importance of improving their Agreement. We also welcomed three new Water Corp members who signed up on the day and became part of their union. Our visit to CBH members focused on finalising their Ports EBA along with enjoyable crib room discussions about the si...gnificant 2009 dispute. AWU Geraldton members are united, empowered and stronger than ever .
13.01.2022 We have less than 24 hours until Scott Morrison's dangerous IR Omnibus bill is voted on A handful of crossbench senators will decide whether Australian working people will take a wage cut and lose key rights and conditions. We need to put as much pressure on the crossbench as possible to make sure we protect Australian workers. ... Will you take a minute to email the crossbench and support the campaign? 07.01.2022 What a motley crew! Our Alcoa convenors work tirelessly every day to represent our Alcoa members across all sites in the southern suburbs and South West. In December they received health and safety training from our national office to help keep you safe at work. It’s just another way the AWU WA Branch has your back, no matter where you work.
06.01.2022 Don’t forget to vote today and when you do, please vote to protect WA jobs and keep WA strong. Click here to find your nearest polling place: https://votewa.com.au/
03.01.2022 Wayne is one of two delegates down at the CBH Port in Albany. He's been a member for 16 years and has been at the forefront protecting his fellow AWU member’s rosters and ensuring pay increases every EBA. Wayne said that working for a big employer it’s important to work together for good outcomes which can be achieved much more easily than on your own.... He’s not wrong!
