20.01.2022 There are many advantages to having an accountant on your team. Having an accountant can save you time (which lets you focus on the areas of business you want to) and money. A good accountant will make sure that you and your business take full advantage of changing tax laws to make sure you pay as little tax as possible. The services offered by an accountant can go beyond just number crunching, and can help your business grow and successfully operate for many years to come.

18.01.2022 For you to claim a tax deduction for a gift, it must meet these conditions: The gift must be made to a deductible gift recipient (DGR). The gift must truly be a gift. A gift is a voluntary transfer of money or property where you receive nothing in return. The gift must be money or property, which includes financial assets such as shares.... For gifts of money, you can claim a deduction where the amount of the gift is $2 or more. For gifts of property, there are different rules, depending on the type of property and its value. Your receipt which you will need to substantiate the deduction should tell you whether or not you can claim a deduction.

15.01.2022 Did you know that the ATO has occupation and industry guides to help you work out what income and allowances you declare and the work-related expenses you can claim as a deduction? For the full list of industries and occupations, visit https://www.ato.gov.au//Occupation-and-industry-specific-/. Remember, to claim a deduction for work-related expenses:... You must have spent the money and you weren't reimbursed The expense must be directly relate to earning your income You must have a record to prove it (usually a receipt)
14.01.2022 #3 Bizarre Tax Deduction DENIED! Taxpayers in the adult entertainment industry can claim all manner of interesting deductions. There's even an argument - untested, so far as we are aware - that breast enhancements could be tax deductible as a "tool of the trade".... It's a controversial claim even for adult performers but the lady - with no known connection to the adult industry - who tried to claim that her enhancements were necessary for work was always facing an uphill battle. The ATO couldn't see the connection and didn't allow the claim. DENIED!
13.01.2022 Did you know that only registered tax agents can prepare and lodge tax returns for clients? Check if your accountant is registered on the Tax Practitioners Board Register here: https://www.tpb.gov.au/registrations_search
13.01.2022 Three Tips To Boost Your Tax Return & Maximise Your Refund: If you have spent something as part of your work, and you have the paperwork to prove it, claim it. Common work deductions include: Working from home costs (this is a big deductible item this year) Cost of using your own car for work... Costs of travelling for work Costs of tools and equipment Costs of work-related courses Keep records! You must have written evidence to prove your deduction claims if your total claims exceed $300. The more records you have, the more you can claim. Get expert help! An incorrect tax return can result in a lower refund or ATO penalties. Most people (74% of all Australians!) find it far less stressful to leave it to an agent to complete their return. Plus a tax agent will be good at finding obscure tax deductions you didn’t know you could claim.
13.01.2022 If you’re not sure if an ATO email or text is genuine, do not reply to it or click any of the links. You can contact us and we can help in determining if it is genuine or you can login directly to your myGov account. The ATO generally won’t ask for your personal information outside of your myGov account.

07.01.2022 The Australian workforce has seen some dramatic changes due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. One of the biggest changes is many of us started working from home. So what working from home expenses can you claim this tax season? Heating, cooling, lighting and cleaning of the area you are working in Phone and internet services Consumables such as printer ink, stationery or paper... Home equipment such as a printer, chair, desk, screen or computer for these items, you can either claim the full cost (up to $300) or the decline in value (items over $300) The ATO have implemented a shortcut method to cover the period from 1 March to 30 June 2020. During this time you claim a deduction for $0.80 per hour of documented work, and this covers all deductible running expenses. But note that, if you use this method, you cannot claim any other expenses for working from home for that period. The alternative is to claim the actual work related portion of all your running expenses, which you will need to calculate on a reasonable basis. This is a considerably more labour intensive process and requires careful documentation of all expenses, but it will often produce a bigger claim and is best calculated with help from your tax agent.
