25.01.2022 Let’s get behind one of our members for this important cause. Well done Dennis Barnett .

25.01.2022 For many months now our volunteers have adapted to ensure their skills have remained up-to-date during these trying times. They have also been undertaken basic maintenance of the vehicles at the station whilst still attending to those Emergency calls. BUT NOW that summer is approaching and restrictions are easing our members will be undertaking crucial training for the up coming fire season ahead. This means you will begin see us out and about running drills, practicing t...echniques and generally getting prepared for another fire season, all under strict COVID guidelines of course. Stay safe this summer by being prepared and make sure you're fire plan is up to date. More information can be found at: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/pla/how-to-prepare-your-property See more

24.01.2022 Tonight at 5:40pm we will be sounding our siren to mourn the loss of four Victoria Police members who were lost in the of duty. We will sound our siren four times, one for each member lost too early. If you hear our siren, please take a moment to remember the sacrifice these police members made, and to be thankful to the many police members that continue to serve our communities across the state.

23.01.2022 We're signing off at the social media desk in the State Control Centre in Melbourne. Tonight we leave you with this video showing five trucks loaded and ready t...o be escorted by Defence Australia, to Noorimbee, Wingan River and Genoa through to Mallacoota to feed cattle that has been stranded for quite some time. Local farmers organised the unloading and distribution to all those in need. One of those locals, Chris Nixon, offered his property as a staging area for the delivery of the hay. The Australian Defence Force air wing has delivered 3 to 4 rolls at a time to isolated livestock when weather and smoke clears enough to enable flights.

23.01.2022 Today, the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC released its seasonal outlook for December to February. Average to above average rainfall during spring, combined wi...th an outlook of above average rainfall for much of Victoria, indicates we will experience a less severe bushfire season this summer but an increased risk of grass fire. Here’s what Victoria’s fire agencies say this means for fire risk. Fire Rescue Victoria | Forest Fire Management Victoria

22.01.2022 Some parts of Victoria are no longer in the declared the Fire Danger Period which means people may be starting to think about burning-off. It is important if you are planning to burn off, that you do so safely and ensure your burn is registered with ESTA 000 on 1800 668 511.

20.01.2022 Urban Fringe Grassfires - Am I At Risk? Grassfires can start anywhere and spread quickly. If a grassfire starts, walk at least two streets back from the fire. If you live two or three streets away from grassland and a grassfire starts, stay where you are. Never drive if you can see smoke or fire. Thick smoke will make it hard to see and traffic jams and accidents are likely. Keep roads clear for emergency services. ... www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-pr/grassfires-near-cities-and-towns See more

19.01.2022 Leaving early is the safest option to protect yourself and your family. Leaving early means leaving the area before a fire starts - not when you can see flames or smell smoke. Your trigger to leave is what prompts you to act. You should use the Fire Danger Rating to determine your trigger. On Severe, Extreme or Code Red days you should not be in a high fire risk area. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/your-bushfire-plan

17.01.2022 FIRE PERMITS VICTORIA In a joint initiative by CFA, FFMVic/DELWP and FRV Victorians can now apply for a fire permit online in a single place using a desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone at firepermits.vic.gov.au, providing a single source of information for the permitted use of fire in the open air. Using the new Fire Permits Victoria website, residents and businesses using fire or heat sources such as commercial catering, fireworks, welding and more can use it to: o Check i...f they need a fire permit. o Apply for a fire permit. o Notify authorities that they are using a permit o Register a burn-off when restrictions are not in place. While the paper-based process is still available, Fire Permits Victoria streamlines the application, receipt, review, management and notification process for all fire permits in Victoria, making it easy for permit holders to use the online system to notify the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) and fire agencies when approved permits will be used. This frees up ESTA resources to focus on their core work such as call-taking and emergency despatch and provides agencies with better information and improves their ability to manage fire risk in an efficient and effective way. It also improves fire agencies’ ability to communicate quickly and consistently with permit holders and applicants.

17.01.2022 Grassland curing is the term we use when monitoring the lifecycle of grass as it dries out. We measure the curing cycle on a scale of 0-100, and anywhere ab...ove 50% (yellow) is fuel that is available to burn rapidly. This graphic is a look at curing over fire season. Over the last few years we have seen grasses dry out in early spring, as rainfall deficits meant the underlying soils were much dryer. CFA has a network of volunteers across Victoria who, during the fire season make weekly observations about how dry the grasslands are in their area and provide CFA an overall picture of Victoria's grassfire risk.

16.01.2022 What is your bushfire survival plan? Victoria is one of the most fire prone areas in the world. If you live near areas that have significant bush, forest or long grass, then you need to plan ahead for the fire season. A written and preferably well-practised plan will help you remember what needs to be done during a crisis.

15.01.2022 How will you know if a fire starts in your home? Interconnected smoke alarms will sound no matter where a fire starts in your home and form the best possible detection and chance of an early escape for you and your household.

14.01.2022 If conditions are suitable and it’s safe to do so, Forest Fire Management Victoria will ignite a planned burn east of Bendigo on Sunday (8 November). The Strath...dale Scrub Track planned burn is approximately 44 hectares in size and two kilometres east of Strathdale in the Greater Bendigo National Park. The burn is focussed on reducing the spread and intensity of bushfires near Strathdale and surrounding areas. We work closely with the Bureau of Meteorology to assess weather conditions, such as humidity, temperature and wind speed, and will only carry out burns when the conditions are suitable. We understand that smoke from planned burns may cause concern and encourage those who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors and keep windows closed until the smoke passes. Under the current public health advice, our planned burning program can continue for now. If that advice changes, we will make any adjustments necessary in consultation with Victorian Department of Health & Human Services, Environment Protection Authority Victoria, CFA (Country Fire Authority) and Vic Emergency. Our crews are adhering to appropriate physical distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure we can safely continue operations across the state. 11.01.2022 With all fires in Victoria now contained, planned burning has started across Victoria. We are doing this work to reduce the size, intensity and impact of future... bushfires. We understand that smoke from planned burning may cause concern, but we must take every opportunity to burn while weather conditions allow, and it is safe to do so. Without planned burning and other fuel management work, bushfires will be bigger and harder for our firefighters to control. Read more: https://www.ffm.vic.gov.au//autumn-planned-burning-startin

09.01.2022 Our crews are on high alert after finding 42 unattended campfires on a day of Total Fire Ban at popular camping areas along the Murray River between Yarrawonga ...and Cobram, Murrindindi Scenic Reserve and Lake Eildon on Sunday (27 December). These actions are placing the community, firefighters and the environment at risk. With hot and windy conditions forecast during the New Year period, we are reminding people to follow the rules when it comes to campfire safety to help prevent bushfires from starting. Campfires must never be left unattended and should be completely extinguished using plenty of water. If the fire is cool to touch then it's safe to leave. Campfires must never be ignited on Total Fire Ban days, as fires are likely to spread rapidly and be difficult to contain. For #NationalVolunteerWeek, we spoke to Brendan about why volunteering is important to him. I do it for the love of the community. CFA is a big family and I’ve always chosen to be a part of it for the betterment of the local community. Many members of our brigade have carried on the generational tradition of volunteering for the local fire brigade, including myself, and it’s so rewarding to see everyone rally together during tough times.
