In particular, the ATO has raised concerns about adequate diversification across SMSF investment portfolios, and the documentation of the investment strategy. The ATO has said that 0-100% asset ranges are not acceptable. It has not, as yet, provided guidance regarding what is an acceptable or appropriate investment strategy. There are penalties for having inadequate diversification within an SMSF.
