17.01.2022 In my family, we have a running joke that if the message you write in a birthday card doesn’t make the recipient start crying with emotion, then you haven’t done your job properly. It’s a joking-not-joking situation; we want to make the message genuinely meaningful for someone we love and care about. I believe that this goal should apply in business as well. Not necessarily having your audience crying with joy, but we should aim to engage with our audience on a level that m...atters to them and motivates them to action. Imagine if every post on social media filled people with positive and purposeful energy in their lives. We wouldn‘t recognise the world! Now I realise that this is a lofty aspiration. Business is often transactional and methodical, driven by outcomes and budgets. Ultimately, however, connecting on a deeper level with your audience will be the difference between a one-off sale and a life-long ambassador for your brand. Inspire people with your story. Share your vision and purpose for starting in business or your industry in the first place. Share the story of where you began and the real struggles and problems your business solves for people. Share how those services have changed and evolved over time to grow with your customers. Share the things you have overcome. Make your business personal and meaningful. If you take only one thing away with you, let it be this: make your message matter to your audience; show them a brighter future, and be the catalyst for getting them there. The secret is that when a business starts truly connecting with people, it’s no longer just a business it becomes a brand.

15.01.2022 Axle Impact Method is a toolkit we created to help business leaders be equipped to objectively evaluate their brand identity and communications strategy. It is effectively a brand and content health check, and is used to identify areas that can be strengthened, and provides a frame-of-reference for creating a roadmap moving forward. Here are the 9 principles as an introduction. We will be unpacking the toolkits a little deeper in the coming days.



15.01.2022 How to write more effectively 1. Put the most important thing first; Don’t bury the lead, and don’t waffle on. If action is required, start with a call-to-action in mind. 2. Share a story that people can connect with; Stories help people understand and remember. Connect them to the human side of what you are saying.... 3. Edit, re-edit, then edit again; Using fewer words more effectively takes time and energy and iterations the impact, however, will be far greater. Proof-read thoroughly to ensure there are no mistakes. If one does slip through, be fast to correct it. 4. Speak naturally; Use language people will understand and connect with.Avoid jargon, avoid ‘insider’ terminology that new people won’t understand, and keep things easy to say out loud. 5. Use punctuation thoughtfully; Too many commas are like speedbumps, too many exclamation marks are unnecessary. Use punctuation for impact and to make a paragraph easier to read. Bonus tip: Take time away from writing and come back with fresh eyes.
