24.01.2022 As a minimum for health, all Australian adults should aim to do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity every week. That's just 22 minutes ...a day. It's not long, and yet HALF of us aren't getting enough exercise. We can ALL find 22 minutes to move every day. It's only half a Netflix episode or a third of your lunch break. Look at your diary and see where you can make some spare time to be active. We promise your body and mind will thank you for it. #maketime #ExerciseRight

Have hip pain and still want to deadlift? Try a more knee dominant option like sumo deadlifting. 21.01.2022 Anyone arriving in the ACT who has been to a Melbourne hotspot will be required to quarantine for 14 days. It's one of several new measures being introduced as ...COVID-19 numbers increase in Victoria. What are the new restrictions? Passengers on inbound flights from Melbourne will have to show ID. Fines will apply for anyone who fails to comply. Who else is affected? 16.01.2022 The Pain Spiral Loneliness & Isolation (7/9) [Series] Pain can affect your life in a myriad of ways. . One of its potential impacts is making you feel lonely ...even if you are surrounded by others. . Although loneliness is common in the general population (upwards of 60% according Cigna's 2020 U.S. Loneliness Index), those in pain may possess a higher risk of being lonely. . Due to factors such as: Feeling like you are not being heard by healthcare practitioners or family members. Feeling stigmatized by the healthcare system. Negative feelings of self-doubt and anxiety heightened by your pain experience. . Additionally, social isolation and loneliness may escalate the occasion for rumination and maladaptive thinking about pain, likely kindling your pain experience further. . So how do you confront this? . 1. Get involved in social activities such as community gardens, clubs, or organizations that genuinely add value to your life and generate a sense of awe. 2. Make an effort to initiate meaningful interaction with someone daily (as opposed to waiting for him or her to). 3. Stop focusing so much on yourself; orient your time around how you can give instead of get. 4. Take part in acceptance and mindfulness-based therapies that teach you to be present with difficult feelings. . Adapted from: Association between musculoskeletal pain with social isolation and loneliness: analysis of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing | Smith T.O. et al. (2019) Pain as a Risk Factor for Loneliness Among Older Adults | Emerson K. et al. (2018) ‘On their own’ social isolation, loneliness and chronic musculoskeletal pain in older adults | Smith T.O. 12.01.2022 Exercise Physiology for Neuromuscular Disease and Injury Exercise is a crucial part of the management and rehabilitation for all neurological conditions and this is no different for brothers Nicholas and Christopher. Nicholas (pictured first) and Christopher (pictured second) both have a rare neurological condition known as Spinocerebellar Ataxia. This is a degenerative condition that affects the cerebellum and spinal cord and results in symptoms such as poor coordination ...and impaired motor function and in Nicholas and Christopher's case, it has left both boys restrained to wheelchairs. The boys have been working hard with our exercise physiologists and have found significant improvements in their functional capacity through increased strength, coordination and energy levels. Both boys have made leaps and bounds towards achieving the goals they set on day one. It has been exciting to watch the improvement the boys have shown and we all look forward to seeing what the future holds for them! If you would like to know more about our mobile exercise physiology service get in contact with us via email, over the phone or send us a message. #exercise #exercisephysiology #rehabilitation #neuromuscular #chronicdisease #canberra #ndis #ndisprovider #functionaltraining

11.01.2022 #COVID19 update 6 April 2020 There have been no new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the ACT in the past 24 hours. The ACT’s total remains at 96. There are c...urrently seven (7) COVID-19 patients in Canberra hospitals. A total of 40 cases have recovered from COVID-19 and have been released from self-isolation. The remainder are isolating at home with ACT Health support. There have been 5329 negative COVID-19 tests in the ACT to date. Acting ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Vanessa Johnston said the recent reduction in confirmed cases was welcomed but warned Canberrans that we cannot afford to be complacent especially in the lead up to the Easter long weekend. Canberrans have been doing a fantastic job complying with the rules on physical distancing and staying at home, and that is definitely helping us to flatten the curve, Dr Johnston said. However, this disease is still spreading throughout Australia. There will be more cases of COVID-19 in the ACT and we are now even more actively looking for undetected cases. ACT Health has been looking for undetected cases in the healthcare and aged-care sectors, as well as in other high-risk environments, for a number of weeks already. That surveillance has now been expanded with random testing of some people who have symptoms but otherwise don’t meet the testing criteria. A sample of people who would otherwise be turned away at designated testing clinics will now be tested. While there is currently no confirmed evidence of community transmission in Canberra, expanding our surveillance will assist to detect this early, Dr Johnston said. I encourage Canberrans not to be complacent. Stay home this Easter, do not travel down the coast or interstate or organize large family gatherings. Continue with physical distancing measures as well as maintaining excellent hand and respiratory hygiene practices. The steps we take now will lessen the impact on our health system when community transmission does start to occur here in Canberra.
