17.01.2022 A few words from our design director, Emmaline Cox _ The artists, Golnar and Ruben, wanted to create moods and unexpected effects. They liked the idea of Polarised glasses, the coloured reflective films mirror the lens on one face and colour the wearers perspective.... So, we started to explore the notions of playing with materials that reflect and refract light. Throughout the design development we tested materials that would transform the object and the light source when illuminated, such as mirror, kiln slumped glass textures and sandblasted effects. Material finishes such as gloss and matte, led us to consider surface effects like frosting and carving into glass to create deep shadow and pattern. During our R&D process, I had a light bulb moment and realised Mica dust would be an interesting material to create the artists desired effect. Mica is a super fine glitter dust that reflects light whilst also allowing light to pass through the surface. The colours of the Mica are delicate and sometimes unexpected by reflecting different colours. For instance a blue mica tone reflected blue and cast a golden tone. We treated the glass sculptures with mirror and mica in custom patterns and gradients. When the sculptures are placed under a moving light source the interaction of colour, light, movement and texture magnificently combine into an art installation we are truely proud to be a part of.
16.01.2022 Axolotl Applied Meta - Silvers + Patina Our effects explained swipe left to learn more. Axolotl applied metal surfaces are made from real liquid semi-precious metals such as brass, bronze, copper and nickel. ... Every surface starts with the raw metal. Our artisans then work with the materials to polish, texture and patinate the the surface to create a wide range of effects. By using real metals we have the unique ability to apply natural ageing processes such as rusts, pearl, florentine or verdigris patinas, creating an accelerated aesthetic beauty that would naturally occur if a metal was left for several years. Our hand-crafted processes promise a bespoke finish with an intended organic inconsistency on every project. Benefits of our liquid Applied Metals: Can be applied onto complex shapes including curved, faceted and routed profiles Can be applied onto most substrates, including MDF, steel, acrylic and fibreglass Suitable for many surfaces including doors, interior walls, ceilings, outdoor areas, signage, furniture and more Lightweight and only 0.5mm thick Cost effective option as compared to cast metal Custom patterns, designs and textures available for all projects Excellent durability Easy maintenance DM us with any questions and project enquiries.

02.01.2022 We are always curious to explore new processes and to push the boundaries of what we know as surfaces, textures and art in architecture & design. Using our 3D printer, any complex pattern, artwork or motif can be embossed with precision onto a range of substrates including mdf, compact laminate, acrylic, glass and metal. For an outstanding result, these surfaces can then be treated with Axolotl Applied Metal, Applied Terracotta and Applied Concrete surfaces that are bespoke,... durable, and easy to maintain. We have an existing portfolio of designs and patterns you can choose from for 3D printing, or we can work with you to customise your design. Swipe across to see some examples of 3D printed surfaces treated with aged metals to create more depth and contrast. #AxolotlGroup #3Dprinting #TheFutureOfSurface #AppliedMetal #AppliedConcrete #AppliedTerracotta
