19.01.2022 Greg O’Shea and I had plenty of time to reflect on all the wonderful support we have received on this fund raising drive for Day of Difference. We joined 50 riders in total, spent over 30 hours peddling our bikes for 4 days, and covered some 640 kms. We personally had some fantastic experiences. The people we met during and on the ride itself, the bike race around Bathurst (a bit slower than the racing cars) and meeting and riding with the school kids of Oberon were amongst ...some of the highlights. The purpose of the ride sunk in over the 4 days and really hit home on our arrival back at Westmead Children’s Hospital on Sunday afternoon. It was a beautiful afternoon. Sophie Delizio, her family and all the riders' families were there to welcome us home. It was a celebration of what we had achieved, not only in finishing the ride but importantly the funds raised over $120,000. We all faced many personal challenges, physical and mental, over the 4 days. These all pale into insignificance compared to the challenges faced by families of children who have suffered major trauma. For these families, it is a life time of providing support and never ending care twenty four / seven. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, they have been able to start working on programs to help families in such a predicament. Although our efforts are only small, they do make a big impact.
