23.01.2022 Help us tell the government: No Public Money for Gas! https://www.facebook.com/events/661913121382150 Jacqui Lambie is one of the key crossbenchers who can help us stop the coalition's dangerous gas plan and fight for a safe climate future powered by clean, renewable energy.... We'll be writing to Lambie's office and also letters to the editor of The Advocate. All you need to bring is a pen/cil, paper, a stamp! RSVP here: https://www.facebook.com/events/661913121382150

23.01.2022 A good explainer on why Australia's climate policy is ... well ... nonexistent "More than 70 countries have signed up to net-zero emissions by 2050. But not us! In the latest episode of The Frant for Guardian Australia, Jan Fran explains how we're still playing politics with climate change."

22.01.2022 The countdown begins! September 25 is the day we say NO to gas and YES to a safe climate future powered by clean energy! Are you coming to a strike tomorrow? Visit https://www.schoolstrike4climate.com/buildourfuture to find a physically-distanced event in your area, or register for the online event kicking off at 6pm ... 21.01.2022 How is this okay? "Some of the biggest players in Australia’s gas sector have made more than $6.4m in political donations over the past decade, including $426,000 to the Liberal and National parties in the 2018/19 election year."

21.01.2022 He's not coming out until Tasplan divest Did you know Tasmania's member owned superfund, Tasplan, invests millions in fossil fuels? Wanna do something about it? 21.01.2022 "My grandmother was out bush one day and just rocked up and has seen all of these trucks, says Dank. She’s in her mid-80s. You can imagine how stressful it was for her to see so many people and so much machinery on her Country. The drill site, known as Carpentaria-1, is located just 30 kilometres from the sacred site." #BanFracking #NoGas #ClimateJustice

20.01.2022 Today is the last day of the Speak Up for Climate Justice challenge, and before we wrap up our fundraising we just wanted to say ... Thank you, all of you Together we've raised $100,000 and had thousands of powerful conversations about climate justice with our friends, families, communities and networks. Every conversation and every dollar has counted towards empowering young people to create a better future If you want to make a donation towards our efforts or you weren't able to take the challenge during the two weeks, you can do so by clicking here: https://speakup4climate.com.au/

19.01.2022 The Climate Council on Tuesday found that 30 per cent of energy in the National Electricity Market during the 2020-21 summer came from renewables. Less than five per cent, meanwhile, came from gas power generation. ... the Climate Council previously found the gas industry itself is Australia's second largest user of gas, using it to make liquefied natural gas to export. #NoPublicMoneyforGas

19.01.2022 WOW NSW energy minister Matt Kean really just said that states and territories don't want any more fossil fuels, the gas-fired recovery is all the federal government's vested interests

18.01.2022 Youth of nipaluna/Hobart say NO PUBLIC MONEY TO GAS! We want a clean, green recovery, not fossil fuels We know that if the government's gas-fired plan goes ahead, gas fracking in the Beetaloo Basin alone could add up to 117 million tonnes of CO2, or 22% of Australia's annual emissions Did you know the government is spending millions of taxpayer's money to prop up the fossil fuel industry? Have your say on the 'Gas-Fired Recovery' here: https://consult.industry.gov.au/en/gas-fired-recovery-plan/

18.01.2022 Come along to our first in-person letter writing session to tell crossbencher Jacqui Lambie we want a safe climate future, NOT fossil fuels! Tuesday 23 March, 4:30-6pm RSVP here: https://www.aycc.org.au/letters_for_lambie

17.01.2022 Almost as if the only reason the economic recovery would be gas-fired is because the unelected representatives on the National Covid-19 Commission have a stake in gas fracking projects

16.01.2022 "The Antarctic ice sheet has existed in roughly its current form for about 34 million years, but its future form will be decided in our lifetimes, according to Anders Levermann, co-author of the paper from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. We will be renowned in future as the people who flooded New York City, he told the Guardian. This also means more people living in the Torres Strait and the Pacific Islands will lose access to their homes and ancestral lands.

13.01.2022 Did you hear the news last week? If you're in nipaluna/Hobart, come to our meeting tonight to hear more about the announcement and what it means, and then how we can fight back to ensure a just and clean energy recovery RSVP here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1408577459533593/

13.01.2022 So ... wind and solar are so affordable that the government won't subsidize them ... but they're willing to take a gamble on the fossil fuel industry? My head hurts

13.01.2022 Why is the government putting all their eggs in this dodgy basket? According to researchers at the Grattan Institute, the idea the government could stimulate a gas-led recovery is unlikely at several levels. Gas prices are unlikely to be very low again, and even if they were low they would not create serious economic stimulus because seriously gas-reliant industries don’t employ many people, says Tony Wood, energy director at the Grattan Institute. 13.01.2022 Wealth inequality is growing alongside the world's greenhouse gas emissions - we need to recognise that poor communities are copping the brunt of climate change, and we need to support pro-poor climate policies in our actions. Remember that fighting late-stage capitalism, including wage cuts to workers, tax exemptions for the rich and precarious employment conditions, is also a way of fighting climate injustice.

13.01.2022 Um so this is cooked! https://www.abc.net.au//qld-gas-subsidies-governm/13221270

12.01.2022 Amazing work from the Newcastle Waters Murranji traditional owner group, who are challenging the decision for gas companies like Origin Energy to frack their ancestral lands "If fracking does come in, including the 500 wells that they're talking about, it's going to destroy the very life of this land, the land that my ancestors used to walk for 40,000 years," says native title holder Samuel Sandy. You can join the fight against fracking by supporting or volunteering at the... Australian Youth Climate Coalition / the Seed Indigenous Youth Climate Network. Message this page for more information https://www.abc.net.au//beetaloo-gas-development-/12701878

10.01.2022 "The Government and the companies think they can get away with drilling on our land just because we live out there, not here in the city. But this is our life we are fighting for, our country, our future. That’s why we’ve brought fracking to their doorstep." - Nancy McDinny An amazing article about the recent case where two protestors were charged for a drilling action on NT parliament lawns

02.01.2022 If you're wondering why we're talking so much about gas, here's a quick explainer on some of the reasons why: The areas where the biggest energy companies want to drill for gas are on Aboriginal lands where Traditional Owners have repeatedly said no to gas development. Natural gas is methane, a gas with more than 28 times the global warming potential as carbon dioxide.... Gas has become the fastest growing source of greenhouse emissions ... in the world.
