15.01.2022 Women’s Health with Rachel PELVIC PRESS One of my all time favourite exercises is the pelvic press. It’s such a versatile exercise which can be progressed in so many ways. It’s great for spinal mobility and glutes and hamstring strengthening. Above I have demonstrated some beginner-intermediate variations of the pelvic press. ... To perform this exercise - lie flat on your back, activate your deep abdominal muscles, slowly tilt your pelvis back like you’re squashing a bug on the floor with your lower back, then slowly lift your bottom off the floor, imagining each part of your spine moving individually, like a string of pearls. Slowly reverse this process on the way down. Note: you do not have to push your pelvis really high up at the top of the movement, you can just go halfway up if that’s all you feel comfortable doing. It’s important to keep your pelvis level at all times. It’s also important to do these movements slowly (this video is sped up) and focus on each step. Before beginning any type of exercise, including this one, I recommend you chat to your physio to find out if it’s suitable for you, as underlying conditions may prevent you from doing certain movements. If you’d like to learn more exercises like this one, the PhysioCore groups I run cover these. 05.01.2022 Women’s Health with Rachel POSTPARTUM EXERCISE The thought of returning to exercise after having a baby may be absolutely terrifying to you, or you may want to get back to it as soon as possible. Either way, I want you to know, that with the correct education and support, it can be a seamless transition back to exercise. There are a few things to consider before returning to exercise: ... Have you had a check up with your obstetrician and women’s health physio? It’s important to do this, to identify any dysfunction which may alter what exercise is appropriate for you. For example, do you have prolapse/incontinence/post-caesarean section, etc. Start slow - it’s a journey. Remember that you have just been carrying your baby for the past 9 months and your body has changed. This is not a bad thing at all, it’s amazing! It does mean however that you need to give it time to heal. With exercise the strength will return, it’s just going to take a bit longer than a few weeks. Most importantly - choose something you enjoy doing! I want exercise to be something you look forward to, not something you dread. So if you enjoy walking, swimming, dancing, weights training or exercise classes, choose what best suits you. Please contact me for further information on beginning your post-partum exercise journey. . . . . . #womenshealthwithrachel #physiotherapist #womenshealth #pregnancy #postpartum #exercise #postpartumexercise #pelvicfloor #pelvichealth #pelvicfloorassessment #incontinence #prolapse #bladderdysfunction #boweldysfunction #education #empowerment See more
