23.01.2022 What is a Dosha? Probably one of the most basic knowledge of Ayurveda is the Dosha. Perhaps you’ve seen the ‘what Dosha am I test?’ And even done it. But is it basic? Not at all!... Are you a fiery Pitta person or easy going Vata type, even the nurturing homely Kapha type. There’s a lot that goes into what makes up your Dosha, there’s also the one you are born with, the one for the time of life you are in now. The time of day, the season, the balance and imbalance. Dosha is made of elements, these elements are directly related to everything in nature Earth, Air, Fire, Ether and Water. As with in nature each of the elements are in varying degrees, balancing these elements in line with our nature is the key to optimum health. We are aiming for tridoshic balance, but with modern world influences this balance is pretty hard to obtain so by managing our diet, nutrition and our daily routine (Dinacharya) we can pacify our imbalance. I’ll be posting more on nutrition for your Dosha and daily routine later.

12.01.2022 In Ayurvedic medicine as with other eastern medical modalities, you can tell a lot about a persons health by looking at the tongue. Tongue analysis can be used in conjunction with pulse, nail, and facial diagnosis in order to really see what is going on internally and detect issues that may not have manifested otherwise Ayurveda suggests that the surface of the tongue reflects an entire map of the body reflecting its overall health.... Areas Covered with Tongue Diagnosis Organ health Vata, Pitta or Kapha imbalances Presence of toxins and where they are accumulating Tension and emotions held in the spine, shoulders, or organs Thyroid disorder Anemia Malabsorption of nutrients Parasitic infection Inflammation in the body Basically, each area of the tongue is related to a certain organ and area in the body. As the front of the tongue is related to the lungs and heart; the middle with the liver, spleen, and stomach; and the back with the kidneys, small intestine, and the colon. The very tip of the tongue correlates with the thyroid, and vertically, smack in the middle of the tongue, reveals the spine. If the tongue has any sort of coating on it, it is a very clear indication of toxic build-up in the system and poor overall digestion. The most common area where coating is typically found is on the back of the tongue, revealing that the toxic build-up is in the colon area. If you see a coating on a different area of the tongue, then that would indicate toxic build-up in the corresponding organ. If the entire tongue is coated, this indicates systemic toxins, meaning the toxins are in the bloodstream and invading the entire body. . . . . #ayurveda #ayurvedic #ayurvedalifestyle #yogainspiration #yoga #healthyfood #healthyliving #healthylifestyle #nutrition #dosha #tridosha #seva #beechworth #Wangaratta #alburywodonga #chiltern #yakandandah #myrtleford #eatinghealthy #naturalmedicine #herbs #herbalmedicine #kapha #pitta #vata #méditation

08.01.2022 So what exactly is Ayurveda? You here this term touted in yoga circles a lot, but what does it mean? It so happens that yoga is the sister science of Ayurveda. You know how in western medicine it’s all about diet and exercise, well Yoga is the exercise and Ayurveda is the medical science that determines what your diet and exercise routine should be, how to prevent any health issues arising and how to help fix any issues that are current.... Like anything worthwhile it’s not so simple, there’s no one size fits all, no magic pill to alleviate the symptoms without actually fixing the problem. It’s about digging deep into who you are as an individual at the core and working out a health regime to suit your individual needs. Only a qualified practitioner can tell you this, you can’t do an online quiz and unless your yoga instructor is a qualified practitioner they should be teaming up with a practitioner to provide advice to clients, so always ask for professional proof and seek adjunct advice before embarking on your wellness journey. Done right Ayurveda can be a fundamental pillar to your health, saving you from very serious health concerns and expensive medications that treat the symptoms not the cause. Much like Chinese medicine, Ayurveda has over 5,000 years of research and built on solid belief systems that mind and body are a direct reflection of the world around them.

03.01.2022 Fennel is a cooling spice, commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine and cooking. It’s taste is reminiscent of aniseed or licorice. It has a nutty flavour and a strong aroma when sautéed in ghee. According to ayurveda, fennel is extremely good for digestion. It acts as a general toner for the digestive system, and is particularly good for enhancing agni, the digestive fire, without aggravating Pitta. In India, eating a few toasted fennel seeds after a meal is a common practice, ...both to aid digestion and to freshen the breath. Fennel seeds can be used whole or ground. Whole fennel seeds, sautéed in ghee, contribute aroma and flavor to dry vegetable dishes, and ground fennel works very well in sauces. Recipe and remedy - The unique health benefits of fennel may be used in number of Ayurvedic home remedies: 1. For colds, take tsp of fennel powder with a pinch of sugar as a tea. 2. To reduce a fever, take 1 cup grape juice with tsp fennel powder and tsp cumin powder. 3. For gas and bloating make a mixture of equal parts of roasted fennel, cumin, and celery seeds. Chew 1 tsp of this mixture after meals and then swallow with a cup of warm water. 4. To purify your blood, consume a handful of raw fennel seeds in the morning and evening. 5. If a breast-feeding baby has no appetite, make fennel tea. Steep 1 tsp of fennel seeds in a cup of water that has been heated over the stove. Cool and feed the baby 1 tsp of this tea every 10 to 15 minutes. 5. For nursing mums who need to increase lactation, boil liter of water and add 2 tsp of fennel seeds. Allow to cool, then strain, and add tsp of raw honey to taste. Drinking 2 3 cups daily is ok for nursing mums. 6. In cases of heat stroke, soak a handful of fennel seeds in water overnight. Strain the water and add a pinch of mineral salt before drinking. 7. To promote bowel movements, chew 1 tsp of roasted fennel seeds after meals See more

01.01.2022 Autumn brings a welcomed change after the intense heat of an Australian Summer. The changing leaves, and cool dry wind mark the indications of this characteristically Vata season. What are the characteristics of Vata? A summary of the qualities of Vata include: cold, dry, light, subtle, flowing, mobile, sharp, hard, rough, clear. So what does this dry Vata season mean for our health? We need the qualities of Vata to help us stay motivated, to keep our creativity flowi...ng, and to help us manage the multiple responsibilities that our lives call for. However, due to the influence of high Vata from our environment at this time of the year, Vata imbalances become quite common. If you start to notice Vata’s influence creating imbalances in your mind and body such as dryness, irritability, distractedness, or flightiness try these simple tips to assist in bringing your mind-body complex back into alignment. 1. Nutrition Favour whole foods such as nourishing grains, soups, casseroles and baked vegetables. Sip on warm-hot beverages (non-caffeinated) throughout the day to stay hydrated and warm. 2. Routine A daily routine will help you to stay rooted even when your mind may be feeling flighty. Morning self care practices (Dinacharya), routine meal times and a daily meditation practice will help keep you grounded. 3. Exercise A daily exercise routine is a great way to keep the body warm and grounded. Fluid exercises such as an asana practice or brisk walking are great ways to keep your Vata in check. See more
