A grim milestone has been passed w...ith over 1 million deaths from COVID in the nine months since it was first reported in China. That seems an age ago now. That 1 million could very easily become 2 million with second waves, new outbreaks and people or governments becoming lax with protection measures. Of course, to respond to this pandemic, the ideal solution is to develop a vaccine, but this is no easy process. No vaccination has ever been developed for this type of virus, such as SARS. A vaccine needs to be effective, and safe, and usually takes years to develop and test. Billions of dollars and thousands of scientists are being invested in COVID 19 vaccine research. Vaccines that look promising are being developed at Oxford University, Russia, the USA, China and also at home at the University of Queensland. The logistics of getting people vaccinated will be complicated as it needs to be stored at extremely low temperatures, -70 degrees centigrade, so special super eskies will also need to be developed.
