24.01.2022 I hope that makes sense

24.01.2022 What a weekend! Over the past few days the AZYC ran our annual 'Bogsem', a seminar bringing madrichim/ot from all youth movements together to learn and connect. While we couldn't run the seminar in person, we partnered with the World Zionist Organization - and with JNF Australia to engage madrichim/ot in creative ways, including guest speakers and 'Zionist Inspiration Boxes'. On Friday we started off the seminar in a super fun way with trivia r...un by Itai Hermann, Israeli game designer, which brought out our competitive sides and saw Hashomer Hatzair Australia win first place. Sunday was our inspiration day, hearing from the incredible Noam Gershony, Israeli Paralympian and 2012 gold medal winner We would like to thank the WZO so much for their generous support in helping us bring these speakers. We finished the seminar off with a Monday session run by Neil Lazarus which challenged us to think about the anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism we witness/experience and how we can respond to it... as always, there is never enough time in one session to answer all the questions, but we would like to thank Neil and the JNF for giving us the opportunity to start the discussion and we are excited to continue it! Thank you to JNF for also supporting our Zionist Inspiration Boxes! 21.01.2022 Over the last two days, the Zionist Jewish Youth Movements have discussed how best to address the escalation of violence in Israel currently. This statement represents the views of 7 Zionist Jewish Youth Movements in Australia and New Zealand. We have come together in this time to create a message of solidarity, each making compromises to unite. While this statement is not the extent of any one movement’s views, it is a common ground on which we stand.

20.01.2022 FREE WEBINAR: CHILD SAFETY AND ONLINE LEARNING The AZYC has teamed up with Jewish Care Victoria and Jewish Community Council of Victoria to host a free webinar with the Office of the eSafety Commissioner on child safety and online learning. With many of our activities moving online due to COVID-19, it is important to understand how to safely navigate the digital world and ensure we are creating safe spaces for children. We are proud to be able to say that our youth movements... have stepped up during this time and madrichim/ot have worked hard to ensure we can continue providing valuable youth movement experiences to all children during this time! All youth movement madrichim/ot will be attending this session, and we invite any other teachers, educators, youth leaders and other professionals to join us! The session will explore how to assess and respond to risk, set online behaviour expectations, and when and where to report. Join us at 7.30pm on Monday 31 August to learn more. 20.01.2022 What a day the AZYC had yesterday! As an accredited Safeguarding Children organisation that runs peulot and camps for over 2,000 chanichim/ot every year through our seven amazing youth movements, we value continual education for our madrichim/ot on how we can create safe spaces for children and young people in our movements by following the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and embedding child safety and well being into our culture. Yesterday we ran thre...e training sessions for our madrichim/ot which allowed them to understand their responsibilities more, ask questions and think of ways we can continue to improve! First, we had over 90 madrichim/ot tune into a lunchtime session with Cynan Kim-Blackmore, a Safeguarding Manager at the Australian Childhood Foundation, about the importance of Safeguarding Children in an organisation and how it goes beyond just having a stamp of approval- Safeguarding Children requires commitment and a deep understanding from all volunteers. Later in the evening, 120 madrichim/ot heard from Philip Chester and Omri Mey-Tal from Arnold Bloch Leibler about Mandatory Reporting and Legal Obligations of madrichim/ot in movements, with a focus on how to make sure the right information makes its way to the relevant people and authorities. Our last session had 45 madatzim/ot from across the movements join in to discuss the importance of young madrichim/ot and the important role they play in supporting other young chanichim/ot and endorsing Safeguarding Children from the perspective of young people. We look forward to welcoming the wider community to our next important session next week on Child Safety and Online Learning, run by the Office of the eSafety Commissioner!

13.01.2022 Tonight is the night! The AZYC is hosting the renowned director, Yaron Zilberman to discuss his 2019 Israeli film, Incitement. Incitement has been applauded as a film that delves into Israeli society in the lead up to Yitzhak Rabin's assassination and focusses on Yigal Amir, the man who pulled the trigger on Israel's then Prime Minister. We are so excited to be hosting Yaron Zilberman in anticipation of the film's premiere in Australia next year and we welcome everyone to join us for what will no doubt be a fascinating discussion to understand Zilberman's film-making process and the perspective the film portrays.

02.01.2022 THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS 147 Madatzim/ot 355 Bogrim/ot 29 Chairpeople (Federal and State) ... That is over 500 madrichim/ot volunteering to run our Zionist Youth movements and provide young Jews in our community with an opportunity to learn, grow and have fun. If madrichim/ot were paid $20 an hour for 4 hours a week (which is the minimum number of hours per week a madrich/a would be spending doing youth movement activities), running our youth movements would cost the community over $2.2 million dollars each year! Being a youth movement madrich/a is so much more than volunteering for a few hours a week. It means committing yourself to your chanichim/ot and your movement and your community. Madrichim/ot play such a huge role in our community and in the lives of young people, many of us wouldn't be where we are without our youth movement madrichim/ot to look up to.
