25.01.2022 B3 | bodies built better . Back in 2014 when I started to think about growing the business, I decided I needed to re-brand. I wanted a name that represented my philosophy, my beliefs and values. .... b3 is about educating You on; HOW to move well for optimal performance & wellbeing HOW to reduce the risk of injury HOW to build a strong and resilient body HOW to reduce tension and calm the system. WHAT to do when certain symptoms arise . Originally I wanted to use the slogan building better bodies but found it was already used interstate, so I kept playing with words. And Bodies Built Better was born. (a much nicer ring to it dont you think?) But for the name to represent both the massage side of the business and the movement side of the business, there were just too many words. and b3 was born. . So thats the short version of how I came to the name b3 massage and movement; bodies built better. . Im proud of what I have achieved. Im proud of everything b3 represents. 25.01.2022 I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with elite Australian distance runner, Izzi Batt-Doyle. Her most recent achievement saw her win the 2020 SA State Road 10km Championships in 32:37. Her list of achievements is incredibly impressive but they certainly didnt come without injury, a lot of tears and doubt.... But Izzi is a fighter, coming back resilient and determined to do better. She is a big believer that running and exercise can have a huge impact on an individuals happiness and well-being. 09.01.2022 Monday Movement I love challenging myself and although I videoed this a couple of weeks ago, this is something I’m passionate about. Challenging myself in different ways and not just physically. The mental side of movement is just as important. You may be surprised by this, but I generally doubt myself when learning a new movement or my ability to execute a movement. It’s silly really because expecting to be good at something when doing it for the first time is counterproduct...ive to the mentality you should have. And that is of a beginner with excitement and curiosity of what can become of that movement, that exploration and that journey to becoming competent. Luckily I don’t let my doubts stop me. 05.01.2022 How are your calves? Massage is EXCELLENT at decreasing tension and providing relief to tight, sore calves but its really important to understand the root cause of the pain/tension. Its even more important to do everything you can to prevent tightness and said pain! .... Here are some things to consider in building calves of steel... or minimise risk of injury: . Start with a low to moderate training load and increase incrementally. . Ensure good ankle and toe mobility. If youre not sure how good it is, ask for an assessment the next time youre at b3 . Check your running technique. For longer runs, you may want to increase your cadence... . Strengthen your body! Calf strength is important but so is glute, quads and hamstrings... get on it! . And of course have a recovery routine which includes: good quality sleep Massage trigger work good nutrition a relaxation practice to calm the nervous system and allow the body to replenish, regenerate and rejuvenate (think yoga, meditation, massage, infrared sauna, salt bath.... anything that works for you ) . 04.01.2022 Breathe. Im sure you could agree that 2020 has been a challenge to say the least. One thing that has helped me immensely is meditation and breathwork.... The power of breathwork is quite profound. Those of you who already know this, will indeed be thinking well duh, and those of you who have been told its something you should do, are probably rolling your eyes at hearing it once again. But I dont say things for the sake of it. Its a game changer. Not only have I noticed a more calm sense of self but also how I react now to certain situations is much different. Oh and I feel awesome when I train! Seriously! I feel like my lung capacity has doubled!! So if you want to give it a go, take a minute to do this Box breathing, also known as square breathing, is a technique used when taking slow, deep breaths. It can heighten performance and concentration while also being a powerful stress reliever. 01.01.2022 You knowww... The most common misconception about Sports/Remedial/Deep Tissue massage is.. . No pain, no gain.... . I’m calling BS on it & here’s why. . Firstly, everyone is different. My pain tolerance is different to yours and what I need for a massage to be effective will depend on what my body is presenting with. . If the pressure is so firm that you squirm, tighten up or hold your breath, then the pressure is too strong. These are all stress responses which will have the opposite effect of what we want from a massage! . Secondly, pain is relative to the activities that you do. So for example, if you are training for a marathon, then during the peak of your training you may feel more sore and sensitive compared to the start or end of your training program, so adjusting the treatment/pressure should be taken into consideration. . Thirdly, the pressure that’s applied to begin with will be different to the pressure throughout the treatment because it takes time to warm up the muscles. And lastly, massage is not just about the physical but also the emotional well-being. Stress unfortunately is a major player in muscular tension & a soothing & nurturing treatment can be just as effective for muscular tension as a Deep Tissue Massage. So, it all comes down to this; communicate. Let us know how you’re feeling.
