25.01.2022 TRUCK DRIVERS - It's time to review how you claim fuel tax credits For businesses with an annual FTC entitlement of < $10K, there is a simplified method that means you may be entitled to more credits (with minimal extra paperwork). Using kilometres travelled, litres purchased and the ATO's accepted diesel consumption rates, and the ATO's deemed amount of on-road travel of 98.4%, you may be able to start claiming a portion of your fuel at the off-road rates (currently 42....7c/L). The new "BASIC" method is something our friendly accountants would be happy to explain to you to help you get more back. #gattonaccountant #fueltaxcredits #trucks #tax

25.01.2022 Would you like a little extra from the Government? Maybe a tax free contribution of up to $500 to your superannuation fund? If your taxable income is < $39,837 and you make a $1,000 after-tax contribution, the government will contribute an additional $500 on your behalf.... Rates reduce incrementally in line with higher incomes to a threshold of $51,837 which if reached, means the reached would make the taxpayer ineligible for the super co-contribution. If you have questions, feel free to get in touch with our office or seek further information from the website below. https://www.ato.gov.au//Growing-yo/Super-co-contribution/ #supercontributions #governmentboost #BAAccountingandAdvisory

17.01.2022 Is your business ready for the Super Guarantee rate rise? Did you know on the 1st of July 2021, the Super Guarantee rate will rise from 9.5% to 10%? This means, if you have employees, you will be required to ensure that your payroll and accounting systems are updated to include the increase to the Super rate. It is important that you pay your employees the correct amount of Super. The ATO will be taking firmer action towards employers who are not meeting the Super Guarantee o...bligations. In some cases, this will result in an Audit of an employer and potentially raise assessments with additional penalties for not lodging by the due date. 15.01.2022 Recent studies have shown that an alarming number of our youth do not understand what taxes are and how they work. Here are our top 3 tips for teaching your kids about work, tax and the value of money: 1. Talk about it - it sounds simple but it can be very effective. Talk about where money comes from e.g. work, gifts, investments etc. Also discuss the different types of taxes e.g. GST, transfer duty, income tax, mining royalties, customs duty etc. It's also great to talk abo...ut why we all need to pay tax e.g. public health, infrastructure etc. 2. Charge income tax on pocket money - this may seem pointless however by doing this you are teaching your child the difference between gross pay and net pay. For simplicity, a small (fixed) percentage works best. It can also be fun to give your children "payslips" for their pocket money to teach them the importance of record keeping. 3. End of term tax returns - a year is a long time for children so it works well to do end of term tax returns as a family activity. Sit down with your children and explain the tax they have paid on their pocket money and outline how the government (parents) plan to uses taxes this term. Taxes can be apportioned between family projects, donations to charity, tax refunds and gifts. Try not to always give them big refunds as this creates unrealistic expectations for the future. By teaching your children about work, tax and the value of money you are setting them up to be financially savvy adults. It's a great investment of your time. #teachingkids #teachingtax #lifelessons #accountant #lockyervalleyaccountant
