25.01.2022 Loving this boy. What a great frame and fleece is scrumptious. Best drop weve ever had.

24.01.2022 If someone is going to be his friend, itd be Durango!

23.01.2022 600+ alpacas shorn with the weather being kind, but now the rain and wind is here and there is no way I can put that many in the shed. We have postponed shearing the rest so I can look after those already done. Big mobs in the most sheltered paddocks and agisted females into the shed. Has been wet but warm, but that is due to change later in the week. This is my first patient. He is a Wether, but still, trying to get him to pull through. Will make a decision before dark if he needs to be pts as I can’t abide those who say I’ll see how he is in the morning when they know all too well he will die during the night.

23.01.2022 All ready for shearing to start in the morning! Looking at doing about 1000 and we are doing things a little differently this year. Reduced staff numbers and Ill be noodling, testing and then classing every fleece ( wish me luck!). I usually class as we go, but want to increase the data collection this year to give our buyers more certainty on what they are getting, including the ability to track from animal to product, plus I want to use fleece stats and weights to do a tough cull on breeders for the coming year. We are consistently getting 4 kg of fleece off our animals. Time to ramp that up. The goal is 6kg of 18 micron or less from each animal.

23.01.2022 How to I get my alpacas to not freak out every time they see our LGD? He is SOOO well behaved, but I cant do much Alpaca socialising because they are terrified of him. Daily walks near them for 2 months has done nothing.

22.01.2022 Our boy Jasper is 6 months old today

22.01.2022 Checking out the regrowth on some of the boys. Happy with all of these. 2-3 year olds.

21.01.2022 Noodle those show fleeces!

21.01.2022 We are SO passionate about the future of suri fibre - the next 10 years will be so exciting as we showcase the potential of suri in the fashion industry. It saddens me that we are still being distracted by these showing debates. Maybe it is time to set up an AWI equivalent for the alpaca industry and leave the AAA as a breed society. Win/win?

20.01.2022 For those breeders waiting on Lisbon matings....

19.01.2022 For those who don't know why I am so enamored with Durango, if his progeny haven't proved a point over the past 10 years, this is his current fleece - at age 18. Still soft, dense and lustrous, holding at 24 micron and hardly any high micron primary fibres to be found within that fleece - even into the extremities. We will be forever thankful that we were able to purchase him and bring him to Australia. Oh, and did I mention he has the most mellow temperament I have ever seen. Walks up to the gate to put his head in the halter. Passes that on too. Love my boy.

19.01.2022 The 2020 Suri Networks All Suri Fleece Show results are in! There were 256 entries over 49 classes. We entered 6 fleeces:... Male: Baarrooka Durango's Epic (4th fleece) 1st Brown 2 years+ Baarrooka Or 32 1st White yearling Baarrooka Or 47 2nd White yearling Female: Baarrooka TB Teagan 1st Black Juvenile and Champion Black Baarrooka Or 50 1st Light Juvenile Baarrooka Or 75 3rd White Yearling Baarrooka Dire Straits was also awarded Light Get of Sire! Baarrooka was awarded the First Time Entry award. So pleased with these results against strong competition. Wish we could run a suri fleece competition in Australia and get this many entries!

17.01.2022 Some suri breeders want to leave the first fleece on for as long as possible. Me, I can't wait to get it off to see what grows next! These photos show a progression from cria, 12 months, 18 months to working male at 30 months. I think it looks best in today's photo and at last a usable fleece!!

17.01.2022 All the girls locked up in the shed last night. A record 13 more born today!! only they and the 8 from yesterday get the shed tonight.

16.01.2022 So excited to receive my banners, trophy, ribbons and score cards from the AOA National and Suri Network Fleece Shows. Beautiful rosettes and an alpaca scarf as well. Woohooo!

16.01.2022 ***Oh, I forgot one!!! 2013 National Supreme Champion, no less! Wow, what a busy month or so for selling stud males! Congratulations to the purchasers of the following males - thankyou for your belief in our breeding program and I can't wait to see what they produce for you!

15.01.2022 This group of yearlings shorn yesterday are enjoying a lovely day of sunshine and green grass!

14.01.2022 What a great idea. For Junior Judging, but also our apprentice judges and as a virtual show to educate our breeders. Who is up for developing this for us alpaca breeders??

14.01.2022 The difference between last year and this year. First photo 27 April 2019. Second photo 27 April 2020.

14.01.2022 Final Black mating frenzy!

14.01.2022 More exciting news from the US. The 6 fleeces I entered in the AOA National Show went on to the Suri Network Show which had the most entries ever. Baarrooka was awarded 4 firsts, one second and one third ribbon. Baarrooka TB Teagan was awarded Black Champion (Fleece below 15.2 mic 3.7 sd 100% CF). Baarrooka Dire Straits ET was awarded 1st Get of Sire in a strong class. So happy to see our focus on fleece being rewarded. ... A big Thankyou to the judges and volunteers at both shows, the AOA staff for troubleshooting entries and a huge Thankyou to Judy Schroeder for all her assistance in getting the entries in and fleeces meeting entry requirements. Congratulations to all exhibitors and all winners. Would have loved to be there to see all the beautiful fleeces.

13.01.2022 The Bachelor (imp USA) on the right and two sons destined to take his place on stud row! Amazing pedigree and fleece stats that are impressive in any colour! If you are interested in adding him or one of his many stunning sons to your breeding program, let us know!

13.01.2022 Shorn boys coming to the shed for the night.

12.01.2022 It's amazing how much extra time I have with no shows on! I've even discovered the 'memories' function on fb. And some interesting memories have come up today showing the pre-potency of particular lines. On 23 August 2013 Baarrooka Durango's Foreign Affair and his full sister, Baarrooka Durango's Rosalie both won Colour Champions at Colourbration. On 23 August 2019, brother and sister by Foreign Affair, Baarrooka FA Lisbon ET and Baarrooka FA Zimbabwe ET won Champion Male and Female suri at the National, with Lisbon going on to win Supreme.

12.01.2022 Cant get enough of this stunning boy

12.01.2022 If anyone is looking for a day out or to update their stash, these guys have some stunning new yarns available. Plus scarves, shawls and other goodies form superfine merino, linen and alpaca

10.01.2022 Using the cold wet weather before shearing starts to list some coloured (fawn, brown, black) females on the webpage. Great genetics and great value. Off course these are only a small selection of what we have on offer, so contact me directly if you are after some male or female suris to add to your herd.

10.01.2022 Entered some fleeces in the National Fleece Show and the Innovative Fleece Assessment Show (very similar to our Commercial Fleece Show) in the US. Pleased to find Baarrooka TB Teagan (2019 National Best Black) received the Reserve Champion Black banner and Baarrooka Durango's Epic (Best Brown Fleece at 2019 National) was awarded the Reserve Champion Brown banner (at 54 months of age) in the AOA National Fleece Show. My light fawn and white fleeces were awarded 2nd and 3rd in... their classes - they lost points due to tenderness It is almost impossible to get those fine fleeces through an Australian summer without a tender break (storing for almost a year probably didn't help). Disappointed, because the light fawn one was my favorite. In the IFA Show, we received both of the Specialist Awards for Grade 1 (superfine) fleece - Longevity Award and Consistency of Micron Award. Was a costly exercise, but very pleased with our results.

09.01.2022 Mums and bubs in the bush block up the back. Lots of shelter (and a few mobs of kangaroos) so I know they’ll be fine when the weather hits tomorrow. Now to work out how to fit the rest of the girls in the shed and which stud males get the luxury float accommodation!

09.01.2022 Love watching the crias developing! This boy is 3.5 months and already looking very promising. And so he should! This is a combination of elite genetics. Kurrawa frame + Baarrooka fleece = something special! Sire: Kurrawa Man About Town. Dam: Baarrooka Trapped (Durango x Pucara Eliza)

09.01.2022 The workers having some pool time!

09.01.2022 Can you get any closer mate?

09.01.2022 We welcome our newest employee at Baarrooka. Jasper started his two year apprenticeship today.

08.01.2022 Ive been really pleased with the cria drop this season especially in the white herd. The combination of Baarrooka, Bumble Hill and Kurrawa genetics has yielded some excellent results.

08.01.2022 This one prefers the house to the shed.

08.01.2022 When youre doing matings and this is the fleece of an 8- year old. And wonder why you havent used him before Baarrooka Durangos Bostano.

06.01.2022 All these beautiful fawn and brown girls are to be dispersed. Top genetics we have spent $ and years developing. Great value for suri breeders wanting the best. Only selling because we are focusing on white and black. Baarrooka fawns and browns have been our most successful show suris. BIG discounts for packages of 5 or more. Contact me for more information.

06.01.2022 Another stunning son by The Bachelor - Baarrooka TB Pharoah ET and an Ultimate Black/Gray Knight combo - Baarrooka Breeze UB Gladiator (full brother of our stud male Gravity) will be off their new home to produce lots of black suris. What a nice mix of genetics in those two boys!

06.01.2022 I am willing to collect white suri for sending to Waratah. They pay really good rates and a consolidation of breeders’ clips will reduce transport costs. Contact me if you are interested. I can also provide a skirting service if you need it. Julie.

04.01.2022 This morning the weather started to clear and the alpacas moved out of their shelter. Just before they did I checked out where the big commercial mob spent the last 48 hours!! Quite a picturesque spot with amazing views!

03.01.2022 We are shearing the commercial yearlings on Monday and Tuesday. Wish us well! At least I dont have to worry about my bad luck with weather - its the middle of freaking winter!!! Cant throw anything at me that Im not already expecting

03.01.2022 Hmmm, guess I should get the shorn suris up to the shed.

03.01.2022 Black girls sorted for shearing. Wish I had enough paddocks to keep them in colour groups all year. They look so good and neat!

02.01.2022 The Australian Alpaca Sustainable Framework will ensure the welfare and care of alpacas, farmers and our customers.

01.01.2022 An inspiring video!
