25.01.2022 Ladies, freshen up your wardrobe in time for summer with 50% off all dresses! Sale ends this Saturday. See you at the Bargain Centre.

24.01.2022 Hi, I’m Maisie, I have been with Cootharinga for 34 years. I’m in charge of the pricing and marking of all clothing items. I enjoy the company in the shop, it’s like a second family. I have seen so many changes over the years and made many dear friends along the way. I also enjoy the fundraising events, Cent Sales, Bingo and Trivia nights when they are held. The Babinda Harvest Festival is also something that I enjoy as I have the chance to do the window dressing for the them...e of that year, this can be challenging. I have a grandson who also works at the Bargain Centre. He has a disability and this is my way of giving back. I don’t know how much longer I will be on deck, going on 83 years, hope it’s for a while yet. I received an OAM for my years of volunteering, this I’m very proud of.- Maisie Smith See more

19.01.2022 Hi, my name is Christine, I’m one of the volunteers at the Babinda Bargain Centre. I have been a full-time volunteer for 5 years, prior to this I would only assist when I could. The Bargain Centre is well maintained with plenty of furniture, bedding, crockery and books to a great range of pre-loved clothing for all occasions. The Bargain Centre has earned its own reputation and is a great meeting place for locals and many visitors from throughout Australia to drop in for a ...browse looking to grab a bargain. I’m also involved with the Bargain Centre’s fundraising events, Bingo, Cent Sales and our monster Christmas raffle. I am privileged to work with a group of multi-talented, gifted and fun-filled people who volunteer their time each week. So, the next time you are in town pop in to the store and say Hello and grab yourself a bargain, you never know what you may find. Enjoy your day Christine See more

17.01.2022 Hi, my name is Bev. After living and working in the Mt Isa area for approximately 40 years, my husband and I decided we’d had enough of the hot dry country, so we bought small acreage at Bellenden Ker one of the wettest areas in the country. Not knowing anyone and having no company, I decided to become a volunteer at the Babinda Bargain Centre where I have been for 8 years working 2 day a week. Apart from selling pre - loved clothing and homeware items they also have furnit...ure. I enjoy working with a group of women of similar age, all volunteers. We have fundraising events such as Cent Sales and Bingo. All money raised through the shop and fundraising stays in Babinda to help people live the life they want. Next time you are visiting Babinda, make sure you call in and say ‘Hi’ and grab yourself a bargain. I suggest to anyone who is at a loss with plenty of time on their hands to call in and get yourself an application form, become a volunteer with us today. Bev McDermott

14.01.2022 My name is Dave Berry and I have been a volunteer at Babinda Bargain Centre for over 10 years. I started at the Bargain Centre as a ‘Mr fix it’. Over the years, I have met a lot of people and formed some great friendships while working at the store. I also became Darryl’s offsider on our trips to Townsville to collect donations for the Bargain Centre. I would also do deliveries and pickups around the Babinda district. I have always enjoyed helping people that are experienci...ng hardship or are in need and the more disadvantaged. I also love being in good company. I have always been a volunteer i.e. Scouting, Ambulance and at Sporting Events. I enjoy attending the Bargain Centre functions, it’s always great to catch up with other volunteers, I enjoy the company of great people. I have thoroughly enjoyed my years helping at the Cootharinga Bargain Centre where I continue to volunteer, sometimes assisting my wife Daph on the counter. Dave Berry See more

10.01.2022 How quick the year has gone, only just over 7 weeks to Christmas. During October 2020 we saw an increase of visitors to Babinda and into the Babinda Bargain Centre. This has been a very encouraging sign for all retail. Having these visitors in the store at this time of the year was wonderful and very encouraging during such a difficult year for us all. Such beautiful comments left in the shop’s comment book by the visitors, thank you. This means so much to the Volunteers. The...y continue to give up their time to volunteer in the store to make a difference by building a better world with people of all abilities. The volunteers also contributed more knitted and crocheted items for International Peace Week. Megan Bayliss and her team decorated the shop front poles again, the same as International Yarn Bomb Day, such great display of colour, well done ladies. During October we saw an increase in donations, such a great response from our Facebook Page, again thank you. We also had three volunteers travel to Townsville to pick up donations, I‘m sure this was also a great bonding trip for the three volunteers. Thank you to all our Facebook followers that follow our weekly promotions and the monthly Volunteer story. The Monster Christmas raffle is now on display in the store. You can call into the store to purchase a ticket, tickets are only $2.00 each. All our Volunteers are safe and well, so to keep it this way we continue to ask you all to practice your social distancing while in the store and hand sanitising when entering the store. Stay safe everyone and have a wonderful week. Pam Keaton - Manager

01.01.2022 September 2020 arrived and has gone so quickly. We now only have 13 weeks to Christmas. Time to think about your Christmas shopping with us! During the previous months, we have experienced the downturn in tourism within our regions but I'm pleased to say that September 2020 has seen the return of travellers to our beautiful township of Babinda and has also been a boost to the Bargain Centre. it has been great to see the return of some familiar faces and meet new travellers, e...specially families during the school holidays. We have heard some wonderful stories and some sad stories regarding COVID-19, and how it's become rather confronting to some of these families. We certainly appreciate where we live in the beautiful tropics of Far North QLD. We have been overwhelmed with your donations that have been received at the store. Thank you very much for your support, this will assist us in the raising of funds to assist people live the life they want. We can also come to you to collect some of your donations if you are unable to get to the store. This week we are celebrating National Op Shop Week, come into the store for a meet and greet with our volunteer and shop for something special or unique, there is always lots of interesting treasures to be found. Our Monster Christmas raffle will be up and running towards the end of October. I also hope that you are all enjoying our social media posts, with the Volunteer stories and in-store promotions. While in the store, please continue to practice your social distancing and hand sanitising. Continue to stay safe. Look forward to seeing you all in-store soon. Have a great and safe long weekend! 01.01.2022 Well, here we are at the end of winter, dancing for joy that the beautiful spring weather is upon us. Spring fashions are now in the store, come and grab some additional pieces for your summer wardrobe. August has been rather busy at Babinda Bargain Centre. It has been great to see tourists back in town and supporting the local community, also enjoying their time chatting and catching up with our volunteers while making their purchases. Thank you for your support. Don’t forge...t that Babinda Bargain Centre is open to accept your donations. You can drop your donations into any of our donation bins located at Bramston Beach, Innisfail, Mirriwinni or the bins located at the front and back of the store. The shed is also open for larger items. Our social calendar for the Bargain Centre has been very quiet in the last four months. All of our yearly events were cancelled due to COVID-19. The monster Christmas raffle will still go ahead. We will start selling tickets for this raffle late October 2020, stay tuned for updates. The last four months have been a challenge with the COVID-19 restrictions however, we will continue to keep our treasured volunteers and customers safe. To stay safe we must continue to sanitise on entry to the store and do the social distancing while in the store. Stay safe and have a great weekend Pam Keaton - Manager See more
