19.01.2022 Update on Tank eyesore.....please...no silo mural examples , as that was the original plan but after many attempts was very apparent that it was never going to happen , which leaves us where we are with it all at this stage.
19.01.2022 Chamber of Commerce Munro Street Markets are on this Saturday - only proviso to have a stall is to have permission of the shop owner where you wish to situate and to park your vehicle in the off street parking facility beside the State Hotel or if this is not suitable, centre park.

18.01.2022 Why you should ring 131444 Police Link. If you phone Police link your call is logged and the info is passed straight to all active phones/tablets that are with police officers who are on duty or on call pretty much immediately.... There will always be someone either on duty or on call to receive this info. If however you phone the station a message may be taken but may not get to any officers for up to, and sometimes more than 24 hours later , as this phone is for admin purposes rather than police matters. EMERGENCIES - 000

16.01.2022 Some stalls setting up for Munro St Markets after a break due to the cursed Covid.
16.01.2022 For a number of years the Chamber of Commerce and other partners including Cr. Brett Moller have tried to have something done to improve the appearance of the old Molasses Tank that was once part of the operation of the Babinda Sugar Mill. On at least 2 occasions plans for murals and have been thwarted by Aurizon by holding Cairns Regional Council to ransom by insisting the Council takes ownership of their liability for the projects to go ahead. As it was apparent that attemp...ts in the future would be futile the Chamber contacted Shane Knuth's office who in turn contacted the transport minister to advise QR and Aurizon of their obligations of their social and safety responsibilities regarding the tank and it was suggested that the best possible outcome would be to remove the tank and clean up the surrounding area as this is what passing potential visitors to the town see, and all the hard work of keeping the towns appearance is spoiled. QR responded by reporting back that Aurizon had committed to removing the tank. Aurizon has been since contacted for an update on when this was going to happen......... There response was that Covid 19 had taken precendent. This matter will be discussed at the next Chamber meeting on 14th July See more
