25.01.2022 Not only is baby sign language an effective form of communicating with your baby, it is a remarkable tool for the development of language. Some studies have shown that signing babies: talk sooner, develop a better grasp of language in general, and show an increased interest in books.... A study conducted by the Institute of Child Health and Human Development revealed that signing babies had a higher IQ than their non signing peers.

20.01.2022 Question:- My baby uses a baby walker, but will this delay development? A baby walker can keep the baby occupied and entertained, but it can also allow mobility beyond his or her capabilities. For example, a walker can move one metre in less than a second, which may be beyond the adult’s reaction time. Recent research in babies between the ages of 6 and 15 months shows... that babies who regularly use a walker take their first steps on average 3 months later than those who have never used one. Walking depends on a number of factors including balance and coordination and the ability to bear weight on the knees, legs and feet. However, babies who spend too much time in a walker may learn to walk on their toes. Babies may miss out essential developmental milestones such as crawling, which can have a significant effect on brain development. To develop their full potential, babies need to spend as much time as possible on the floor practising important skills that will eventually lead to crawling, standing and unaided walking. See more

20.01.2022 Did you enjoy 'WORLD NURSERY RHYME WEEK' this week? Millions of babies and children across the world enjoy the benefits of nursery rhymes every day. Silly rhymes, nonsensical verse and traditional rhymes are appealing to babies and children. That’s why they have been passed down from generation to generation and are still popular today.... When rhythms and words are simple and repetitive, children will enjoy the feeling of mastery as they come to learn them by heart, which raises their self-esteem and sense of belonging. So enjoy listening to and singing nursery rhymes to your baby to help build their memory and vocabulary, increase their social skills and improve their comprehension and creativity!

08.01.2022 "Say Hello" FAQ - Is it true that my newborn can only see black and white? At birth, sight is the least developed sense. Recent studies show that babies can see coloured patterns as long as there is enough contrast in colour and brightness. By two months of age, baby can see colours and the outlines of shapes ten times better than at birth. And by three months of age, the eye has made much progress, and the baby can now see all colours, including blue. Development is so ...rapid, that by six months of age, the baby has about 20/50 adult vision. The baby can tell the difference between pastel colours and similar colour shades such as yellow and orange. By eight months of age, baby can see all the subtle shades that make the world so rich and interesting. However, visual acuity (20/30) is not as sensitive as an adult’s since the receptors and nerves are not yet fully mature. It will take another four years or more before visual acuity reaches normal adult levels. This is why visual stimulation is so important from birth!

01.01.2022 "Say Hello" FAQ - why is sharing nursery rhymes with your baby so valuable? Round and Round the GardenPat-a-Cake Pat-a-CakeThe Wheels on the Bus We’ve all heard or sung or read a nursery rhyme but why are they so amazing for babies? Nursery rhymes have a predictable, rhythmic pattern that helps children to memorise speech patterns. Rhymes with a simple, steady beat and lots of repetitive language such as Pat-a-Cake and Round and Round the Garden are ideal for babies.... When you sing a nursery rhyme, words and phrases slow down making speech easier for your baby to hear and follow. Your baby also builds up a vocabulary of words long before the meaning is understood, developing speech and language skills. Number rhymes such as Five Little Speckled Frogs and Ten Fat Sausages introduce children to numbers and patterns, making learning to count fun! Nursery rhymes can be sung at any time of the day during nappy change, in the car, at Baby Sensory classes or before bed (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for example). Clapping, patting or stamping are great actions to use with any nursery rhyme so babies feel the beat, develop their listening skills and improve their coordination at the same time as building their vocabulary!
