Please reach out to SANDS: miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death support (1300 072 637). The death of a baby at any stage of pregnancy can be a very sad and distressing time. Even at an early gestation parents are already busy preparing for a new life with their baby. Sudden...ly and unexpectedly their plans change In Australia, up to 1 in 4 pregnancies result in miscarriage and yet it remains a silent problem. Early pregnancy loss is the loss of a pregnancy prior to 20 weeks gestation. The term is a broad one, encompassing miscarriage, ectopic, molar and any other loss that occurs prior to 20 weeks. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, everyone processes and copes with things differently. Some people, if possible, like to see and photograph their baby. Others like to name their baby and collect pregnancy keepsakes such as positive tests or ultrasound photos to hold onto. Dont be afraid to ask what your options are, people are there to help you and your family. Don't underestimate the grief that you are feeling, or allow society to minimise your loss. Seek support, talk to someone, especially someone with a shared experience as this can be so helpful. If youre comfortable please share your experience and help break the stigma around miscarriage. From the time I found out I was pregnant with my first, there was no doubt in my mind that I would breastfeed. As a mom-to-be, I was new at everything and so I did a lot of reading on the subject. How to position, signs of a good latch, how to tell my baby was getting enough, etc... ... Nothing prepared me for the pain. As soon as Maya would latch on my toes would curl up because of the pain I was feeling. After about two weeks it got easier. But with Ava it was way more painful, and my poor nipples cracked and bleed too . It was not a fun journey but we did it. I am still nursing her but I no longer feel pain. Good hydration: Hydration really helps us to get clear images so up your hydration for 7-14 days before you come for your scan.... You don't need to have a full bladder for your scan. Parking: If it's your first time coming to Baby & Me 3D, please come 10 -15 minutes early to familiarise yourself with our location and find a parking space. There are limited parking spaces out the front of our shop and they fill up quickly. Arrive Early: As all our appointments are time based, please arrive at least 5 minutes early to your booking. The ultrasound technicians and doctors were amazing during my scans, and I loved every minute of seeing may babies; but the atmosphere surrounding the scans were never entirely pleasant.
