25.01.2022 Here's the BBRA Jan 2020 Flyer. BOOKINGS OPEN soon ...
25.01.2022 BBRA Nov 2019: Malcolms View: Travis Wellington HEDGE and JOHNNY FLORENCE As usual, the big BBRA crowd really appreciated TWH both alone and with JOHNNY. Its hard to pick the highlight of the TWH sets, but I got a real kick out of hearing A Day in the Life from Sgt. Peppers. Although they had no orchestra to enhance the sound, the almost dream-like nature of the tune cast its spell over me. The power of music is magical. Incredible, is how one could describe JOHNNY FLOR...ENCEs Roy Orbison tribute. If the inclusion of Pretty Paper Willie Nelsons Christmas song that was a hit for Roy, was not special enough, John included three Elvis songs. The Elvis fans around me were all smiles because they appreciated hearing them sung in Johns own way and not an impersonation. HOORAY for that! The connections between Elvis and Roy are too numerous to list here. Ask me sometime. My thanks to TWH & JF. For those of you still wondering from where the hell the name Travis Wellington HEDGE came. A couple of years ago RICK PHILLIPS from the band told me that it is a name dreamt up by a couple of guys called James and Bob. They may have had assistance from Websters Dictionary, or the name could have come from that of a western gunslinger. I like that scenario best, where a sepia vision from the old west appears with a message, name your band after me! No matter from whence the name arose; they are damn good musos. The next BBRA LIVE EVENT is on DECEMBER 12 2019, featuring THE BOYS, and Walk Right Back. More info soon. MALCOLM
25.01.2022 BBRA Jan 2020. MALCOLMs VIEW: PAUL READINGS Festival of Laughs At the January BBRA, we witnessed Willie Nelson, Mick Jagger, Joe Cocker and half a dozen more iconic singers, all performed by PAUL READING. With only the aid of perhaps a wig or a scarf and a facial expression, he most amusingly transformed into the old stars. Natty G added to the fun and Ozzy even made an appearance. Paul was funny even when things went a little wrong. On top of all this his singing is sp...ot-on. The next BBRA Live Event is happening THURSDAY 13th of FEB. featuring the lush harmonies, legitimate musicianship (no sequencing here!), of six baby boomer expatriates who make up Boomers the band. BABY BOOMER MUSIC FOR THE YOUNG AT HEART. It can happen to YOU. More info and bookings to follow. MALCOLM

22.01.2022 Hi Everyone. Our live stage show,"Baby Boomers Rock Adelaide is getting" closer but I think that it will be a while before we can " get up and boogie". I imagine that it will be a gradual introduction bearing in mind there must be a separation of 1.5 metres between each person. Good luck everyone. I'll keep in touch. Rock on. Jim
22.01.2022 Some Boomers have asked what does "Rockin' & Roy'n with TWH", that appears on our BBRA NOVEMBER FLYER [attached] mean. Well, if your lucky enough to see a rock band like "Travis Wellington HEDGE" as well as JOHNNY FLORENCE singing Roy Orbison, together on the same evening. You'll soon find yourself ROCKIN' & ROY'N. You can't help it. Malcolm.

18.01.2022 HEY ALL BABY BOOMERS ROCK ADELAIDE -------GET READY TO ROCK. I'LL TELL YOU WHEN. JIM.
18.01.2022 BBRA February 2020 Live Event. MALCOLM’s VIEW: BOOMERS the Band Before this show, I had not heard this versatile group. What they played was a wide and terrific variety of music ranging from the very old Ink Spots’ Whispering Grass, and Joe Brown’s uke arrangement of I’ll See You in my Dreams, to Santana and The Doobie Brothers. Great band, equals wonderful memories. Loved the bouncy keyboard. If you wish to add some music to your day, I suggest you attend a BBRA show.... At the next one on MARCH 26, music will be in the capable hands of TWILIGHT ZONE with Peter Tilbrook, and WALK RIGHT BACK with John and Bill. More details and BOOKINGS to follow. 17.01.2022 BBRA February Live Event MALCOLMs VIEW: JOHNNY FLORENCE At February BBRA, Johnny singing Roy Orbison was as previously, a very big crowd pleaser, so much so that it felt like everyone was there just to see Johnny and they may well have been. You get the feeling that he chooses the set-list very carefully. In this show he also included three 1950s Elvis rocky songs showing that he obviously enjoys The King as much as Roy. These tunes were sung in his own voice and style with... no impersonation involved. Interestingly, Johnny also sang Roys 1963 version of Mean Woman Blues which was introduced by Elvis in 1957s Loving You. Johnnys fab live backing came from the splendid BOOMERS the Band. At BBRA you get a little of the history of popular music at every show. Next show MARCH 26, we have TWILIGHT ZONE plus WALK RIGHT BACK with JOHN & BILL!! More info to come. They superbly cover Motown, Van Morrison, CCR, Springsteen and more. Great guitars, keyboard and even a sax creates a soulful live sound. Light-hearted humour from Paul and band members add a nice vibe. These guys and girl are another band that are... keeping the 60s sounds alive at BABY BOOMERS ROCK ADELAIDE. ALSO, on the night PAUL READING presents his stand-up comedy which I have tagged his FESTIVAL of LAUGHS. Talented musos NATTY G. and CHRIS BOATH are JIMs interviews. 15.01.2022 BBRA Oct Live Event: MALCOLMs VIEW: COLOURED RAIN This month at BBRA, rocking band COLOURED RAIN performed without ailing lead vocalist Adrian Bills. Get well soon Adrian. Standing in for him was PAUL READING whose voice was perfectly suited and soulful for their rocky repertoire. Highlights included A Whiter Shade of Pale, showcasing Graham Hollis on Organ. Randy Newmans timeless You Can Leave Your Hat On, sung like Joe Cockers hit version. Plus, an instrumental Com...in Home Baby, Booker T. Memphis style. Joining Paul on stage for a few songs was GARY BURROWS with his long hair piled high. They made a perfect duo on We Gotta Get Out of This Place and Twistin the Night Away. The large crowd had almost as much fun as COLOURED RAIN. After five years of monthly shows, JIM SLADEs BABY BOOMERS ROCK ADELAIDE is still delivering the goods. The next show happens THURSDAY NOVEMBER 21, presenting Travis Wellington HEDGE and by popular demand JOHNNY FLORENCE singing the Roy Orbison songbook. More details and bookings to follow. 14.01.2022 JIM SLADEs special vocal guest at BBRA FEB 13 is JOHNNY FLORENCE. He was born John Fiorentino in Alexandria, Egypt, immigrating to Australia in 1957, John's popularity as a singer began during the late 50s. He is one of Adelaides pioneers of SA television variety, appearing on shows that included "Woodies Teentime", "Adelaide Tonight" and later on national programs such as "In Melbourne Tonight", "Bandstand" and many more. He has also supported many greats like Johnny O'Ke...efe, Laurel Lee, Dig Richards, The Allen Brothers, and overseas artists Jerry Lewis, Neil Sedaka, Shirley Bassey and more. Johns early singing style lent toward singers such as Johnny Mathis. These days he has a great passion for Roy Orbison, to whom he sounds remarkably similar. You can experience JOHNNY singing ROY at BBRA Feb 13. You will be enchanted. BOOK NOW for this show at www.babyboomersrockadelaide.com.au Just click the Big Red Button at top of the homepage. MALCOLM

13.01.2022 BBRA Jan Live Event. MALCOLMs VIEW: CHARTBUSTERS Rock n Soul is how I describe this great group of musos. Vocals are from powerhouse PAUL READING and dynamic ANNIE CARTER. Together they create iconic performances of already outstanding material. Land of a Thousand Dances, River Deep Mountain High and My Girl, to name a few. They took Elviss slowed down beginning, 1972 take of Hound Dog and extended it to the outer limits. If you want to hear what a couple of singe...rs, guitars, keyboards, drums and a touch of sax, can deliver, who you gonna call? CHARTBUSTERS!! 09.01.2022 BBRA December Live Event: MALCOLMs VIEW: THE BOYS As usual THE BOYS presented solid 50s and 60s rock for the big crowd on the night. The band became our jukebox of live Beatles, Stones, Easy Beats, Kinks, Carl Perkins songs and more. Music can take you back in time, as it did for me during this BBRA show when I was momentarily transported back to the 60s and the very first time I heard Hang on Sloopy coming out of an ancient radio in an Army disposals junk shop. In t...hat romantic setting, I considered the record very catchy but corny. Tonight, over 50 years later, THE BOYS added punchy to my assessment. Great to see and hear NOEL back up-front for this Christmas show. JANUARY the 16th 2020 BBRA features CHARTBUSTERS with PAUL READING. MALCOLM
08.01.2022 Here's the BBRA November Flyer. BOOKINGS are already coming in!
08.01.2022 BBRA October Live event: MALCOLMs VIEW: TREVOR McNAMARA & FRIENDS performing songs of RICK NELSON The big crowd at BBRA this month witnessed the birth of a new act when a slightly nervous TREVOR took the stage with Its Up to You, a typical mid-tempo RICK hit. It was at this point that I noticed how different the sound was to the post British Invasion material that most BBRA bands often favour. This style focused more on the singer, so back then generally we were fans of... RICKY rather than a band. Although RICK did have James Burton, who was a standout even then, on lead guitar. The result of this was you really needed to be able to hear the singer. At the beginning Trevor was a little too quiet. Soon the performance of songs got better and better. Traveling Man, Garden Party and Hello Mary Lou were great and then, too quickly, the short set was over. I would love TREVOR do a longer show. It is so very nice to see this type of homage to someone like Rick who deserves more attention than he gets. Plus, I am so glad it was not an impersonation. THANK YOU, TREVOR & FRIENDS. The next BBRA Live Event is THURSDAY 21st of NOVEMBER, when you will see Travis WELLINGTON HEDGE, JOHNNY FLORENCE and Darrens mum MAUREEN and her famous Christmas Cake. BOOKINGS OPEN SOON @ www.babyboomersrockadelaide.com.au . MALCOLM
08.01.2022 Heres a little BBRA MUSIC TRIVIA: During his RICK NELSON set at BBRA this month. TREVOR McNAMARA mentioned the composer of POOR LITTLE FOOL: It was young SHARON SHEELEY who reportedly wrote it when she was 15. In 1958 she drove to Ricks house and said her car was broken down. He assisted her and she successfully offered her song to him. Ricks recording of it became his first number 1, making her the youngest woman at 17/18 to compose a US chart topper. As a songwriter sh...e was composer or co-composer of many songs including Brenda Lees Dum Dum and The Fleetwoods Hes the Great Imposter. In 1960, in the UK she was hurt in the car crash that killed her then boyfriend EDDIE COCHRAN. 1964, along with her DJ husband Jimmy ONeill she created the TV show SHINDIG. What an interesting life. Sharon passed away in May 2002. MALCOLM See more

05.01.2022 I realise that I haven't responded to many emails recently but unfortunately I've broken one of my ribs and I am now learning how painful that can be BUT the pain is slowly diminishing. I've also had laptop problems which hasn't allowed me to send emails. I hope things improve soon. Please share this.. I've put together our return show as a working model and I'm also designing a project involving podcasts that is exciting and a first in Australia More later. Like many Baby Bo...omers, I've continued exercising although I've had to tame it down somewhat but we will be back bigger and better than ever. I am so happy to see how Australians, particularly South Australians, have taken on board what is needed to overcome this obscene virus. Please keep in touch. 02.01.2022 BBRA Dec 2019 MALCOLMs VIEW: Walk Right Back Ever tweaking their set list, JOHN & BILL have elevated the BEE GEES half of their show to a level that is vibrato perfect. As well as Gibb brothers hits, they included a few of the songs the BEE GEES wrote for others such as Guilty for Barbra. The EVERLY BROTHERS section is devoted to mainly the biggest hits and goes by quickly. I would like to hear them gradually add other harmony heavy songs from the likes of Peter and Gor...don or Simon and Garfunkel. Lets face it, I would like as Elvis did with his group Voice, to be able to afford to have J & B on call anytime to sing me a song whenever I got the urge. Kinda like, hi guys do you know anything by Chad and Jeremy? That constant desire to add some music to my day will be satisfied again at the January 16 BBRA Live Event with CHARTBUSTERS, featuring vocals by the talented ANNIE CARTER with PAUL READING who will also present his stand-up Festival of Laughs. BOOKINGS OPEN soon at www.babyboomersrockadelaide.com.au . Malcolm

02.01.2022 BBRA October 2019: MALCOLMs VIEW: JOHNNY FLORENCE interview You learn something about JOHNNY FLORENCE every time he is on-stage. This time during JIMs interview we learnt that he likes most types of music except opera. His first record purchase was the superb Jezebel by Frankie Laine, written by Wayne Shanklin who also was composer of "Chanson D'Amour", and "The Big Hurt". Once, after a Bandstand appearance, Brian Henderson recruited singer of standards Lana Cantrell w...ith her small car, to reluctantly drive Johnny to the airport. How many folk can say that type of thing happened to them as a result of their occupation? We also learnt that Johnny will turn 87 in a few months. What a treasure we have in him, who also happens to be appearing at the NOVEMBER 21st BBRA, presenting his not to be missed salute to ROY ORBISON, backed by Travis Wellington HEDGE. With that combination, we will be Rockin and a Royin. BOOKINGS for the 21st NOV are open now at www.babyboomersrockadelaide.com.au MALCOLM
