Across the world, as many as 1 in 5 new mothers experience some type of anxiety disorder, often these feelings will go unnoticed or untreated, sometimes with tragic and long term consequences to both mum and baby. ... No one is immune. Women of every culture, age, income level and race can develop some level of anxiety disorders. . I myself have been through levels of anxiety and sadness during the early months of my childrens lives, so I understand the challenges many of you may be facing right now. The loneliness, the change in identity and the seeming loss of freedom can feel completely overwhelming. . We all need to commit to supporting our fellow mamas. Showing empathy and being able to listen without judgment sometimes is all it takes to help one mama overcome those feelings. Also encouraging new mamas to get outside into nature and explore with you helps to reset some of that negative energy. . And did you know babywearing can benefit mothers at risk of post partum depression? Being so close to your baby means you can read your babies cues more successfully making you feel more confident in your parenting ability. Every time a baby is able to let us know that she is hungry, bored, or wet without having to cry, her trust in us is increased and your confidence as a mama is strengthened. Additionally mum and baby both produce higher amounts of oxytocin when they have lots of warm contact with each other. And of course the ability to be hands free will allow you to attend to the self care you need to help combat these feelings. . We need to remove the stigma around mental health and if you are currently facing challenges in your journey, please reach out wherever and to whoever you can. Especially with the first as it is that transition from life with just you to now having a constant accessory and a being that you think about before your own n...eeds, I even forgot to drink water! Some love it and embrace it but alot feel lost with the shoulds and self expectations. By far it was certainly one of the most challenging moments in my life. But second time around I was more prepared and embraced acceptance and reality, therefore loved the goodness it had to offer. We put so much effort and time into birth prep and pregnancy and then once the baby is out.... then what?! I know it is hard to try and put your head there about when you actual have the baby and life goes on but it is so vitally important you prepare for this stage also, so you can embrace the goodness it has to offer and actually feel that joy not just pretend because you should be So what can we do??? I can not recommend enough to build a tribe of supportive mamas around you especially if you dont have family near by. You need others who have the same outlook as you for support. Seek the amazing professionals in your area that help and can also connect you to other mamas. Eg post-natal yoga teachers, doulas, midwifes, counselors. And of course be proactive and ensure your health will be in check to cope with the change in sleep and different factors of stress plus physical demands on the body. Such as a naturopath, herbalist, integrates doctor and acupuncturist. Plus you definitely need someone that can give you nurture like a massage or who makes a cup of tea filled with warm love and fabulous advice. You dont need to struggle everyday, yes it is hard at times but please do what you can to prevent and support the MAMA! Always happy to share my recommendations for those local on the Sunshine Coast xx

17.01.2022 Im usually caring for human babies but today was a little special. We met Lauren, her team, a bunch of lovely mamma camels and 6 babies under 5 weeks of age. We had a chat about feeding and mastitis... all things babies and breastfeeding still in my mind You will find QCamel on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. They are the only ethically raised and organic camel farm in the world. A lovely cuppa with fresh camel milk and a platter of fresh fruit and camel cheese makes for a divine morning tea. A must do if you are heading up this way. The milk is so good! Its great for gut health and newborns. The mills properties are said to be better than formula for our babies.
