14.01.2022 Question:- My baby uses a baby walker, but will this delay development? A baby walker can keep the baby occupied and entertained, but it can also allow mobility beyond his or her capabilities. For example, a walker can move one metre in less than a second, which may be beyond the adult’s reaction time. Recent research in babies between the ages of 6 and 15 months shows... that babies who regularly use a walker take their first steps on average 3 months later than those who have never used one. Walking depends on a number of factors including balance and coordination and the ability to bear weight on the knees, legs and feet. However, babies who spend too much time in a walker may learn to walk on their toes. Babies may miss out essential developmental milestones such as crawling, which can have a significant effect on brain development. To develop their full potential, babies need to spend as much time as possible on the floor practising important skills that will eventually lead to crawling, standing and unaided walking. See more

12.01.2022 "Say Hello" FAQ - why is sharing nursery rhymes with your baby so valuable? Round and Round the GardenPat-a-Cake Pat-a-CakeThe Wheels on the Bus We’ve all heard or sung or read a nursery rhyme but why are they so amazing for babies? Nursery rhymes have a predictable, rhythmic pattern that helps children to memorise speech patterns. Rhymes with a simple, steady beat and lots of repetitive language such as Pat-a-Cake and Round and Round the Garden are ideal for babies.... When you sing a nursery rhyme, words and phrases slow down making speech easier for your baby to hear and follow. Your baby also builds up a vocabulary of words long before the meaning is understood, developing speech and language skills. Number rhymes such as Five Little Speckled Frogs and Ten Fat Sausages introduce children to numbers and patterns, making learning to count fun! Nursery rhymes can be sung at any time of the day during nappy change, in the car, at Baby Sensory classes or before bed (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for example). Clapping, patting or stamping are great actions to use with any nursery rhyme so babies feel the beat, develop their listening skills and improve their coordination at the same time as building their vocabulary!

12.01.2022 Humpty Dumpty... one of the most well known nursery rhymes! But have you ever noticed that there is no mention of Humpty being an egg in the rhyme?

10.01.2022 Are you excited for Christmas this year? After such a challenging year we can't wait for all the festive fun! When will your tree go up?

09.01.2022 The newborn’s brain contains more than 100 billion brain cells (neurons). Some of these neurons were wired in the prenatal period for specific functions such as breathing and heartbeat. However, the majority of synaptic connections for vision, language, hearing, smell, taste, movement and learning will be formed in the first three months of life. A rich environment full of interesting sights, sounds, smells, taste, colours, textures and language will build a foundation that w...ill make all subsequent learning easier. This is why early postnatal experiences are so important. Baby Sensory classes provide parents with essential information, techniques, ideas for play and one-to-one activities; so that they know how to foster their baby’s learning potential from the very beginning.

09.01.2022 How to encourage the essential milestone of rolling over:- Plenty of tummy time during supervised waking hours will strengthen your baby’s upper body muscles in preparation for rolling over. Rolling over can be encouraged through play. If a toy or rattle is wriggled ... or shaken to one side, your baby may roll over to get it. Put your baby’s arms and legs in the correct position (one arm and shoulder tucked under the body, the other knee bent) and gently roll him over. He will soon get the idea and attempt to roll over on his own. Sing ‘Rock-a-bye-Baby’ and gently rock your baby before rolling him over. Play ’Peek-a-boo’ on one side of your baby to encourage him to roll towards you. Make rolling over an enjoyable activity. If your baby seems uncomfortable, try again when he is rested and ready to play. Some babies find it easier to roll over when their nappies are removed. See more

05.01.2022 Baby Sensory - Fun, engaging and developmentally beneficial classes.

05.01.2022 Did you know that the first year of life is a critical developmental period for the eye and the brain? Babies should be exposed to a wide range of colours from birth, just like they are at Baby Sensory. Using soft lighting and encouraging babies to turn toward the light will help to strengthen their eye muscles and encourage eye-teaming.

05.01.2022 Your pregnant friends probably haven't heard of Baby Sensory. Tag them below to share the love

05.01.2022 Seriously. 7am wake ups are the stuff dreams are made of!

05.01.2022 Did you enjoy 'WORLD NURSERY RHYME WEEK' this week? Millions of babies and children across the world enjoy the benefits of nursery rhymes every day. Silly rhymes, nonsensical verse and traditional rhymes are appealing to babies and children. That’s why they have been passed down from generation to generation and are still popular today.... When rhythms and words are simple and repetitive, children will enjoy the feeling of mastery as they come to learn them by heart, which raises their self-esteem and sense of belonging. So enjoy listening to and singing nursery rhymes to your baby to help build their memory and vocabulary, increase their social skills and improve their comprehension and creativity!

04.01.2022 Today is 'R U OK?' day. This simple question could change a life. 2020 has been an incredibly challenging year and we know this question is so important to ask. We would like our Baby Sensory community to know we are here for you always. If the answer to this question is not what you would like it to be and you feel alone, please reach out.

02.01.2022 We *love* water play. It's such a fun, simple sensory play idea and a massive bonus is that it's great for our baby's physical development too. Check out this six month old baby enjoying water play during tummy time. Having the bath toys floating around is encouraging him to reach and transfer his weight; both crucial developmental skills needed for crawling. Want to have a go? We just used a large under bed storage container but a heavy bottomed, low ...sided dish would work too. Just add water, maybe some bath toys and let the fun begin (& remember to tag us in your photos!) **Always closely supervise water activities. Do not leave your baby unattended with water** See more

02.01.2022 BLACK (and white) FRIDAY GIVEAWAY At Baby Sensory Victoria we are focusing on your baby's visual development and to celebrate - we have a fabulous B&W FREEBIE up for grabs, we love a freebie! Simply comment with a photo below (or note) showing/telling us what your baby loves to gaze at and you will be automatically entered in to win this fantastic prize! (Terms and Conditions apply)... HURRY! Closing date for entries is 11.59pm on Sunday 29th November. And remember.... sharing is caring so share and tag your friends so they don't miss out. Did you know.... "At birth, the eye and brain areas responsible for vision are immature, which explains why very young babies are unable to see red, yellow and pastel colours clearly. Bold black and white patterns provide the greatest contrast. However, unless the baby has a visual problem, black and white toys are not necessary to promote normal vision." Dr. Lin Day
