23.01.2022 Bringing your newborn baby home is a magical bonding time for most couples. But life with a baby is also incredibly stressful, full of little hiccups you may have never anticipated. . Relationships often go through some big changes after the baby comes along. These changes can be good and bad and can take a big emotional toll. It’s a big deal to care for a little person who is completely dependent and who doesn’t come with a manual. .... Quality sleep is a thing of the past with a newborn. When your baby is teeny-tiny, count yourself lucky if you get more than two or three hours of shut-eye at a time. If your partner is sleeping like a baby and not helping out at night, there’s bound to be some resentment, Maybe a solution for this issue can be practical, if one parent has to get up for work, perhaps he/she should be the one to get up on the weekends, . Below are some other ideas and options that may help: . * Try to talk about your expectations (not demand) of your partner and figure out a compromise. * Be honest about what you need and how you feel * Manage your expectations * Make a list of tasks, and divide them fairly. * Make time for each other, even if its a 5 minutes chat . Just remember your not alone. Be patient, be strong and be acceptable to it all. This is a long game and all good things just take time. . xo . . . #babysleep #parentingtip #marraigetip #newparents #babytip #mumlife #dadlife #upsanddowns See more
21.01.2022 Is Your Baby Waking From HUNGER or COMFORT?? This is something I get asked all the time so below are some points you can refer to if you are not quite sure if your baby is waking out of comfort or genuine hunger. HUNGER: * Baby falls back to sleep easily... * Has a normal/Full feed * Can sleep long stretches . COMFORT: * Doesn't go back to sleep easily * Only feeds briefly * Continues to cry after feeding * Feeds more often overnight than during the day * Wakes up full and not overly interested in milk until later. In some cases it probably doesn’t seem like your child is feeding much overnight as they are only on the breast for a few minutes then boom, they are back to sleep! BUT all those micro sucks = milk and over 8-12 hours all that milk adds up. If your child does not seem too interested in milk or breakfast when they wake then it’s quite possible its due to consuming too many calories overnight. The good news is everything is fixable! . Whether a baby is waking from hunger or comfort, they still deserve a response during the night IF they are signalling one. However, it is MUCH easier to settle a full and content child than one that is hungry. . Some key points to remember: * You don’t have to assume that every waking is for hunger * Try to offer comfort first, a hungry baby typically won’t be easily settled! How you choose to respond for comfort wakings is totally up to you. . I usually advise offering some patting, rubbing and shushing, then eventually moving your patting to onto the mattress and shushing from a distance. . #babysleeptip #babyfoodtip #nightwaking #comfortfeeding #genuinehunger See more
20.01.2022 What is your child wearing to bed? This time of year (Spring - In Australia) Can be tricky, quite warm during the day, but can still be cold at night . My advice for babies who are in a sleeping bag, my advice is to dress them in a cotton onesie with a 1.5 or 2 tog sleeping bag. You may need to turn the fan on low at bedtime, just remember to turn in off by 9 pm. If your finding that is still a bit warm, you can pop your little one in ...a t-shirt and nappy along with the thicker sleeping bag, as it will pay off at 4 am! A good temperature for the room is between 19-22 degrees Celcius. . 18.01.2022 Overstimulation is one of the most common reasons for young babies ability to cope in the afternoon. They often find it difficult to calm down and fall asleep. Here are some tips on how to prevent your baby becoming overtired and what you can do to help if you miss the boat.. * Prevent overtiredness by watching your babys wake windows... * Turn off all Technology - The blue light turns off our melatonin * Go to a quite spot, where just you and your baby can be alone for a bit. * Dim the lights You don't need to make it pitch black but dimming the lights can help bring some calm * Turn on your white noise That loud steady, rumbly white noise can be so calming for your baby. *Help your baby fall asleep - An overtired & overstimulated baby will most likely need extra help to fall asleep. Don't be afraid to feed, rock or bounce your baby to sleep. You can always aim for more independent sleep next time. * Most importantly Stay calm! Babies feed off our emotions. If you feel frantic and stressed, your baby will reflect that back. If you take deep breaths and slow your own racing heart, your baby will follow suit. What is your best trick for helping your baby when they are overtired or overstimulated? . . . #newborntip #overtired #overstimulated #babysleepmagic #sleepconsultantgoldcoast #babysleepconsultantgoldcoast #goldcoastmums #newbornsleep #babysleep #toddlersleep #mumblog #babysleepissues #babysleepproblems #parenthood_unveiled #newbornsleep #tiredmummy #motherhoodsimplified #motherhoodgoals #mumspo #babysleepexpert #babysleepconsultanttips #babysleepconsultantaustralia #sleephelp #sleeptips #supportingmums #supportingwomen #settlingtechniques #babylove See more
16.01.2022 Bedtime boundary pushing is one of the most common challenges we see with toddlers and preschoolers. I love to use choice theory at bedtime (and during the day) because it gives them the opportunity to have a choice, while still making the boundary clear and being in control. The key here is you are giving your child choices and making them feel like they have a bit of control (something all kids love) However neither of the options is a... punishment AND you the parent is setting the boundary & the choices. In order for your child to have a really clear understanding of the expectation, it's helpful to use a timer. I am a HUGE advocate for visual aids, reward chats and timers! Use a timer to communicate a timeline, it can really help them understand and know what to expect as young children have no real sense of the time. Once you've set that boundary, be firm and stick to it. Boundaries help us all feel safe and consistency is KEY. Your child may be angry about it and that's okay. They are allowed to feel this way. You can be a safe space for them to express their feelings BUT at the same time still implement the boundaries. Have you experience bedtime battles with your child? See more

14.01.2022 How many of you found going for a "nice" walk with your baby challenging?? . When Noah was young I never could coordinate my day well enough to go for a walk without him absolutely cracking it. I never knew if it was from hunger, tired, bored, I had no idea ?? I was constantly worried about when the melodrama would begin and because of that, I would never venture too far. ... . So if you are where I was... all I can do is assure you that it does get better! Practice makes perfect (and age) the older your baby gets, the easier it is. . #strolling #baby #babies #lifewithababy #bugaboo #pram #babysleeptip #mumlife #naptip See more
08.01.2022 Quick check list for night wakes! It’s normal for our babies to wake randomly throughout the night even after they have been sleeping through for a few weeks or even months. Once your baby wakes during the night, the first thing to do is WAIT... for 10 minutes if possible. THEN, if feeding, try and keep your baby awake during the feed. This will not only help to ensure that they take as much as they need but are more efficient at the feed,... this will also allow you to place them back in bed at the end of the feed awake to encourage self-soothing skills. Why do you think your bub is waking overnight? 08.01.2022 When to start toilet training? . There is no right or wrong time to start toilet training. Generally, when your child starts to tell you their nappy is wet or dirty is a good indication. This is usually between 18 months and three years of age. . Do not begin toilet training, if your toddler is adjusting to any changes, i.e: moving bedrooms, transferring them into a big bed, moving house or the arrival of a new brother or sister. All...ow a couple of months to adjust to any further changes before starting toilet training. . Consistency & persistency is paramount. Toddlers are fast learners and are more adaptable than we give them credit for. Allow yourself a good week to implement toilet training once you start and be prepared for some accidents along the way!. . . . #tiolettraining #toddlertip #mumlife #parentinglife #toddlersleep See more
06.01.2022 Did you know...Children should NOT breathe through their mouths, not while awake, not while asleep. NEVER. If your child shows the below signs, it may be worth seeking further advice. Always trust your instinct, if something is telling you that "this doesn’t feel right", you are probably correct. Below are some RED FLAGS to be mindful of: Snores Grinds their teeth... Wakes up in the night Has night-time accidents or daytime accidents Has impulse control issues Nervousness Agitation Anxiety Is hard to understand when speaking Has under-eye circles Stomach pain loss of appetite Weight loss Nausea Suicidal intention Has crooked teeth or a misaligned bite Wakes up insanely early Is irritable during the day Has a bad appetite Falls asleep immediately after their head hits the pillow . Mouth breathing is NOT NORMAL in children and it has long term health consequences. When a child breathes through their mouth, their brain (and body) is not getting enough oxygen. At night, this lowered oxygen saturation is detrimental to the quality of sleep and their brain's ability to get enough rest. When the mouth is open, the tongue cannot rest in the correct place. Over time this can lead to incorrect development of the upper jaw - narrow and high palette, a recessed lower jaw (overjet and overbite can form), speech problems (mispronunciation) and misaligned teeth. . . #babysleeptip #babysleep #toddlersleep #toddlertantrums #sleeptip #redflagsforsleep See more
05.01.2022 Here my 4 top tips for achieving a good nap! 1. DARKNESS IS YOUR FRIEND Just like with early morning wake-ups, you'll find that your child will sleep longer if you make the room very dark so it's more like bedtime when you put them down. Don't worry, they won't get their days and nights mixed up.... 2. WHITE NOISE: Babies aren't used to quiet. In the womb it was noisy so they find comfort in a low, rumbling noise playing in their sleep environment. It should be played at a level equal to that of a running shower (probably a little louder than what you think) 3. TIMING: Sleep pressure is the brains pressure (or need) for sleep. Watch your baby’s wake window, an over tired baby won’t sleep well overnight. It actually has the opposite effect. Sleep = Sleep. The better he naps throughout the day - the better your nights will be. 4. RULE OUT HUNGER: Ensure you baby is getting enough calories during the day - If your baby is feeding ALL night longTime to swap it around. Offer regular feeds more often during the day and try to stretch out those night feeds to at least 4hrs apart, using your settling techniques in the mean time. . . . #babysleepmagic #sleepconsultantgoldcoast #babysleepconsultantgoldcoast #goldcoastmums #newbornsleep #babysleep #toddlersleep #mumblog #babysleepissues #babysleepproblems #parenthood_unveiled #newbornsleep #tiredmummy #motherhoodsimplified #motherhoodgoals #mumspo #babysleepexpert #babysleepconsultanttips #babysleepconsultantaustralia #sleephelp #sleeptips #supportingmums #supportingwomen #settlingtechniques #babylove See more
03.01.2022 Some Mothers will feel that immediate sense of love and connection with their baby. Whilst with others it can take time. . It can be an incredibly overwhelming experience and with all those post-pregnancy hormones, it's okay to moments of feeling up and down. The intensity of your pregnancy and delivery can hit you all at once and can take months to progress through. . 01.01.2022 I want to reassure any new mums with newborns, that holding and feeding your baby to sleep is NOT a bad habit. There can be unnecessary pressure on parents to prevent their newborn from being fed or held to sleep in fear of developing bad sleep habits. This is 100% NOT TRUE. * It’s NORMAL for newborns to fall asleep while feeding. * It’s normal & expected for newborns to want to sleep in your arms. ... Although it can be totally exhausting, please note it is completely developmentally normal. The newborn days are hard and draining but they do go fast. Don’t worry about creating bad habits in the early days, it's just not necessary. Work on getting to know your baby and to be honest, just survive. Don't feel guilty to feed and hold your newborn. You can always work on sleep and expectations after the fourth trimester. The Baby Sleep Magic App has all the information needed to achieve better sleep for Baby! Inside the Newborn package, you receive tips and video tutorials on how you can get your baby to sleep (with a cry-free approach) and implement healthy sleep habits for your baby so you can enjoy the newborn stage. . #newborntip #holdingandfeedingtosleep #babysleepmagic #sleepconsultantgoldcoast #babysleepconsultantgoldcoast #goldcoastmums #newbornsleep #babysleep #toddlersleep #mumblog #babysleepissues #babysleepproblems #parenthood_unveiled #newbornsleep #tiredmummy #motherhoodsimplified #motherhoodgoals #mumspo #babysleepexpert #babysleepconsultanttips #babysleepconsultantaustralia #sleephelp #sleeptips #supportingmums #supportingwomen #settlingtechniques #babylove See more
