23.01.2022 Welcome to the third day of Womens Health week. And lets talk about Pelvic girdle pain and Pregnancy PGP is the pain in the front/or the back of your pelvis, which can also affect hips or thighs. Pain may also refer into the buttock, and/or down the leg, so it is often confused with sciatica. PGP involving the pubic symphysis joint can refer pain to the groin, inner thigh, lower abdomen, and vaginal area. During Pregnancy many changes occur that affect your pelvis... Growing tummy stretches abdominal and stomach muscles, and changes line of pull. Increased weight of the baby sitting on your pelvic floor. Center of gravity moves forward as your tummy grows, adding increased load to your back and pelvis. Hormonal variations occur from the first trimester. Women with PGP are often told, having the baby is the cure. However, Cure is not always immediate due to, Effects of Relaxin hormone remain for some time. Effects of other hormones continue (6-12 weeks post birth or until women are breast feeding). Supporting muscles (particularly abdominal and pelvic floor muscles), have been stretched and weakened during pregnancy. The most common symptoms of PGP include pain when you are walking, climbing stairs and turning over in bed. Early diagnosis and treatment can stop symptoms during any stages of pregnancy & after pregnancy. It can prevent from symptoms getting worse, relieve pain and help to continue with your normal everyday activities. Your Physiotherapist can suggest the right treatment for you including advice on braces, support wears & avoiding certain movements. Along with this specific exercise to relieve pain and some hands on treatment. Call 9743 4479 to chat about your options, whether that be a tele-health appointment or in-clinic consultation.

05.01.2022 WHAT IS DORMANT BOTTOM SYNDROME? Being stuck at home can lead to sitting more often and not moving as much as we normally would, this can lead to a condition called "dormant bottom syndrome" While the name may sound funny, dormant bottom syndrome is weakening of the gluteal muscles. The weakening of these muscles can lead to pain in the lower back, hips, knees and even feet as these parts of your body take on more load than they are supposed to.... Even athletes and people who exercise regularly can have dormant butt syndrome. Running typically works the hip flexors, hamstrings, quadriceps and calves more than anything else. Most runners dont do enough strength training let alone work on strengthening the glutes. Long periods of sitting, as well as exercising in ways that do not activate these muscles can lead to this condition, however there are ways to prevent, or fix dormant bottom. To find out more about this condition, this article from Back in Motion Health Group discusses Dormant Bottom, and the ways you can work on strengthening muscles: https://bit.ly/2KGoDzu Call 9743 4479, or book online at https://www.backinmotion.com.au/melton to be assessed by one of our fantastic physios today and work towards strengthening those gluteal muscles!

04.01.2022 Like most of us here you may be very excited to finally be heading back to the gym. However be careful when first stating back. Dont think that you will be able to lift the same weights you did prior to the lockdown. Your body has most likely become deconditioned to lifting the heavier weights. Here is some quick advice for you when you restart: Reduce your normal weights by 30% to start Gradually increase the weights by 10% each week... Do shorter sessions to begin with Make sure your form is good. Have a few PT sessions to review your program Make sure you warm up properly before hand and cool down after Do extra stretching sessions If you do get pain and niggles for more than 2 days then call us to see if you need some treatment. Remember, the chances of an injury are the highest when your body is deconditioned. https://www.abc.net.au//physios-warn-gym-goers-to/12339318
