24.01.2022 Another incredible day on @haggerstoneisland @ Haggerstone Island

24.01.2022 The wind savages the audio, but I’ve captured a series of moments in time on this trip to give an insight into what was happening in real time. #back2basics

24.01.2022 NEW EPISODE We find another uninhabited island to setup camp for a few days. Spearfishing, fishing & doing our best to gather a feed of the biggest, bluest Mud Crabs I’ve ever seen! Hope ya enjoy #back2basics #TheGreatAdventure #MudCrab #CatchandCook #Spearfishing #fishing

23.01.2022 DAY 5 AT SEA Camped here for a couple of days, plenty of fish straight off the Island. Weve made a bit of a challenge to try and eat a wide range of marine life. Coral Trout for lunch and then Spider Conch Shells for dinner (great chewing!) Surviving from the ocean without any ice or eskies was always going to be challenging but it makes ya very selective when taking a feed #back2basics #livingfromtheocean ... @ Australia See more

23.01.2022 The spearing community in Australia has been rocked the last couple of days with the loss of 2 blokes doing what they love. Matthew Tratt, an experienced diver and great family man bitten by a shark off Fraser Island. (GoFundme page attached, please donate what you can) Alex 'Chumpy' Pullin, an Olympian and larger than life legend lost to Shallow Water Blackout.... I'm sorry I don't have the words to do these blokes justice, this is just so tragic. Condolences to the families. Look after yourselves and ya mates... Life can be too short.

23.01.2022 DAY 78 This has gotta be one of the best river systems in the country! White sand and clear water at the mouth that transitions into fresh water with Lily Pads & Nepa Palms, reminds me of the rivers we used to fish growing up in PNG. But the best thing for us was fresh drinking water! We filled our 40L supply at the second photo, and wow was great to wash the salt off the sack!... #back2basics @ Australia

22.01.2022 Thanks for the support this year legends! We’ve got ya hangover sorted for tomorrow with a new series dropping. Get stuck in tonight, look after ya mates and we will see ya next year

21.01.2022 Coolest thing you’ve found beach combing?? When you get to a new camp site along the beaches or islands have a good look along the high tide mark... never know what you’ll find ! #back2basics

21.01.2022 NEW EPISODE! We found a Tropical Island to claim for the weekend, speared our food, lost some to a Sharknado and had a pretty epic Whale encounter... it was a good time BACK 2 BASICS on YouTube #back2basics @ Tropical North Qld

17.01.2022 The past few years I've been living in the same place and started to feel that the adventures were becoming a bit too familiar and comfortable, I was craving a true adventure to be pushed out of my comfort zone and to explore an unfamiliar coastline. My best mate Az was unavailable (you'll soon see why in his own Series) so Fran & I jumped in the 'Salty Dingo' and headed off rather naively for a month island hopping... it turned into the greatest (at times almost the last) 4 months of my life through some of the wildest and most remote coastline Australia has to offer. Episode 1 is now live: https://youtu.be/yG0mQPTa_ss

16.01.2022 DAY 60 The weather was so rough offshore it forced us to find shelter on one of the most isolated stretches of coastline, thankfully the fishing was red hot, this metre Barra was a life highlight! Minutes before this a Crocodile slid down from behind me high up the bank hidden in the trees. Certainly a wild part of the world! ... Bit of an update... Az and his Salty Banana Kayak are on schedule and pressing north for the top of Australia, hoping to arrive this week if the weather is kind to them. I’m not ready to wrap the trip up yet from the Salty Dingo so we’re gunna keep the dream alive for another month or so yet. Will post updates when we can. The cameras have been rolling the whole time for an epic Series of B2B #back2basics

16.01.2022 These guys make getting in the cold (23 degrees )water worth it! So much fun to catch and great eating. Who else has been having some luck chasing them lately? This is a snippet from our latest Episode #back2basics

15.01.2022 This is one of the main reasons we call this part of the world home Living on the fringes of this wild world has its upsides, for all the windy, storming & wet weather we get here. Days like this happen! And you can explore the Great Barrier Reef, while getting a fresh feed of seafood #back2basics

15.01.2022 SPEARFISHING TIPS: How To Hunt Smart Fish These are the techniques we use to try outsmart the shy fish that keep their distance from you. Share it with ya mates that might take something away from it. Full Episode from this epic week spearfishing with Adreno Spearfishing is on our YT Channel: https://youtu.be/5WDhHTKl7fM

14.01.2022 NEW EPISODE We'd had a lot of requests to show the filleting & cookup of these fish so here it is. Enjoy!

14.01.2022 Back on the water tomorrow and continuing the adventure north to the top of Australia! A couple of days in the big smoke was long enough... fingers crossed for some nice weather over the next month or so, especially when @azgalla_ starts the kayak paddle #back2basics

13.01.2022 This place has been on the top of Az and my bucket list for yearsss, pretty surreal to actually be here @haggerstoneisland Days are spent on the boat fishing, diving and spearfishing and then its all turned into a Michelin 3 Star Meal Unfortunately @az.gall had life duties to attend to so Frans taken his side of the bed in the Honeymoon Suite. Haha Cant recommend this place enough, its truly something special!... #NotSoBack2Basics @ Haggerstone Island

13.01.2022 4 MONTHS LIVING FROM 17ft BOAT I was craving a true adventure to be pushed out of my comfort zone and to explore an unfamiliar coastline. My best mate Az was unavailable (you'll soon see why in his own Series) so Fran & I jumped in the 'Salty Dingo' and headed off rather naively for a month island hopping... it turned into the greatest (at times almost the last) 4 months of my life through some of the wildest and most remote coastline Australia has to offer, living from the ocean. 13.01.2022 Incredible what youll find in one pressure point out on the water. Find where the current is, the bait is and with it a range of fish variety. This spot was loaded with fish, we took a handful and was done! And left with walls of Mackerel and trout left swimming through schools of bait. Have a great weekend all! Make sure you do what fill ya with joy #back2basics @az.gall

12.01.2022 Had a great few days fishing, BBQing and exploring around Weipa with @weipahouseboats From our anchorage we had Crocodiles, Dolphins, Barramundi and bird life surrounding the boat... very special spot and the crew have a heap of local knowledge to share. Definitely recommend this for an awesome getaway! I’ll share some of the fish photos in the next post @ Weipa, Queensland

12.01.2022 DAY 10 AT SEA Found a sand cay surrounded by the Great Barrier Reef. We caught a Queenfish and had saviche lunch here, it was great! Heaps of Reef Sharks and beautiful snorkelling aswell. #back2basics @ Australia

12.01.2022 DAY 24 AT SEA- GOT THE DOG! Yeww! Have travelled far and wide around the world in search of these Dogtooth Tuna but watching Fran shoot this one from the Salty Dingo takes the cake After nearly a month at sea the stars had aligned to give us a chance to dive for them... incredible experience and it fed us for daysssss! Raw fish for breakfast and lunch, Tuna steaks on the fire for dinner. #back2basics

12.01.2022 This was a special day. A long, rewarding hike winding through thick scrub to reach pure freshwater and the remotest waterfalls I’ve ever been to. A true effort hiking (2 hours in the dark) 120kg of water between the crew back to camp. The kayaks held approx 25-30L of water each so finding water sources every 4/5days was essential. After only brackish water and coconuts the days before, this boosted serious morale. Often we would cook rice and other meals with part salt water to conserve the precious fresh. #back2basics @ Cape York, Queensland, Australia

12.01.2022 DAY 14 AT SEA There was strong winds over 25 knots until we came across this beautiful little bay that provided us a great anchorage and camp Great snorkelling and plenty of Crayfish straight out the front, but we did have a run in with a Big Bull Shark and was bitten on the flipper by a Blacktip Shark which was weird and slightly annoying that it damaged my only pair on the trip The 1st and last photo show our camp setup, pretty basic but does the job!... #back2basics @ Queensland See more

11.01.2022 Whos in serious need of getting dropped off somewhere like this?! There are some things in life that need to be prioritised, this is one of em!! #back2basics

11.01.2022 I asked Fran for a caption and this is what she came up with... That’s the jetty and the boat the two iconic characteristic of Haggerstone, all picturesque and this kind of stuff Wow she’s got a way with words! @haggerstoneisland #NotSoBack2Basics @ Haggerstone Island

10.01.2022 DAY 80 We made a bit of a challenge to try and eat as many different sources of seafood on this trip. 35 different species of fish so far, heap of different molluscs, shellfish, squid etc but a Crayfish cooked in garlic and butter is pretty hard to beat! Seafood doesn’t get much fresher than this. #back2basics #seafood #caughtnotbought #seeaustralia #thisisqueensland @ Australia

10.01.2022 First time back together with reception for a long time so thought we’d share a bit of an update... 10.01.2022 Who’s up for a swim off the jetty? ( credit, the legends on Roko Island)

10.01.2022 DAY 20 AT SEA This island had so much to explore; mangroves for Crabs, Crocodiles & Oysters and the lagoon on the reef flat was like an aquarium with Turtles, Sharks & epic fish life! We camped on an island nearby and caught fish to eat raw for lunch and cooked on the fire for dinner. Definitely one of my favourite spots... look forward to editing the episode to share with you guys on YouTube. #back2basics

09.01.2022 DAY 8 AT SEA This island was exactly what we had in mind when we left on this trip. White sandy beaches, turquoise water, Coral Trout off the beach and no signs of human impact. We were here for the new moon which meant the star show at nighttime was unreal! We knew travelling the coast in a 17ft boat may be challenging but getting to places like this is what its all about! Were filming the whole adventure and will be sharing it on YouTube. ... #back2basics @ Queensland See more

09.01.2022 3 Barra in 2 dives... but the best was still to come New Episode from the best coastal diving Ive ever seen: https://youtu.be/aVXi3h2hOzY

09.01.2022 A red hot couple of days fishing! There was non stop action on so many different species; Trevally, Tuna, Mackerel, Queenies & Barra! Thanks for sharing ya knowledge and putting us on the fish @lastcastnotso Fishing all day with a fish whisperin’ charter guide and then retiring back to the @weipahouseboats is definitely the way to go! We filmed some really cool stuff on this trip for an upcoming YouTube Episode @ Weipa, Queensland

07.01.2022 First 2 Episodes of this Series are live. Hope ya enjoy the adventure!

06.01.2022 Getting back 2 basics was what wed say whenever wed get our selves into nature. Whether it be for a hunt, a fish, a camp, surf, hike, bbq on the beach or a simple climb of the coconut tree for sunset

06.01.2022 After a month at sea island hopping up the coast weve made it to @thetemplecapeyork Were going to be based here for a week or so waiting for a break in the weather to keep heading north. This place is bloody awesome and gives us a chance to charge the batteries and share some pics from the trip so far Definitely put it on the top of your list if youre coming up to this beautiful part of the world! #Back2Basics @ The Temple Cape York

06.01.2022 A lot of the world is shut down, a lot of it is opening up... but one things for sure, you wanna be on a position to get yourself back 2 basics in the Great Outdoors the second you get the chance. There so much to explore, and a lot of the time its right in your own backyard. Tag a mate whos gotta get their act together ! Benny Crisp

06.01.2022 DAY 92 This little speck of paradise gave us the best camp site for 4 days! There was always Reef Sharks patrolling the shallows and nesting Turtles and birds sharing the beach with us. We spent the majority of our time snorkelling some of the best coral coverage we’ve ever seen. We caught our own food and survived from the ocean, Fran’s huge Yellowlip Emperor (super elusive and cunning) was a highlight fish ... #back2basics @ Australia

06.01.2022 Kayaking over the reef flats we saw Sharks, Turtles and Stingrays and just off @haggerstoneisland theres an amazing deeper lagoon with really cool fish and coral life for a snorkel Staying there was one of the best things weve done, and now weve choppered over to the West Coast to film some episodes fishing from a houseboat. Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone whose following this adventure as its opened up some incredible opportunities, and you guys are the reason were able to do these amazing things, so thank you! I owe you all a beer or two! Cheers, Strick @ Haggerstone Island

05.01.2022 DAY 3 AT SEA This island had a school of baitfish surrounding it with Pelagic fish chasing them all day which made for some great land based fishing and Spanish Mackerel for food There was also some local fellas camping and hunting for Turtes for a funeral, although I dont like that its important I dont push my beliefs on them and it was great to see the local culture still going strong. Overall it was a great island to camp on and they just kept getting better and better as the trip went on #back2basics

05.01.2022 Golden Snapper or Fingermark are my favourite fish inshore and watching Fran battle with this one was as good as it gets! 05.01.2022 Never have I been more grateful for FRESHWATER. Going to every night covered in salt & sand. (Which to be honest didn’t mind) 6 hours up, 4 hours back. One of the two remote & worldclass waterfalls we experienced on the kayak trip... Definately coming back here in wet season! #back2basics

04.01.2022 DAY 75 We’re travelling with only 40L fresh water in the Salty Dingo and had run out when we arrived to this paradise island... Have never been so happy to get my hands on a big juicy set of nuts #back2basics @ Australia

03.01.2022 So grateful to be able to spend weekends like this, life can be too short as we were reminded of this week with a couple of fellow spearo passing away. 03.01.2022 DAY 90 Three months into the one month trip we setup camp on this tiny sand cay on the Great Barrier Reef. 02.01.2022 DAY 12 AT SEA Had a great time hunting elusive reef species on the outer reef. Its really cool how all the different species behave differently underwater, and these are some of the most challenging to hunt Maori Sea Perch, Passionfruit Trout and a Longnose Emperor taken with the Samburu 110 from @adrenospearfishing #back2basics #spearfishingaustralia ... @ Great Barrier Reef

01.01.2022 DAY 83 After a couple months rubbish weather we finally got a window of calm seas so we turned the Salty Dingo into a live aboard and headed out into the deep blue in search of Dogtooth Tuna. This entire couple of days was really wild... Sharknados, sheer drop offs & huge fish. A pretty amazing experience landing this one with Fran. This might be my favourite Episode yet, I look forward to sharing it with ya soon. ... We’re still a month or so away from finishing our trip at the top of Australia, but will upload some pics over the next few days. Cheers, Strick @ Australia

01.01.2022 No shortage of bush tukker in remote Cape York Who’s hungry?? #back2basics

01.01.2022 Sand Cay Scenes. Has been really cool to spend the last few months at spots like this and watch nature go through it’s cycles like the initial courtship between the Booby birds to their nesting and now the young chicks being born. We’re heading off grid again in the morning. Hope to check in at the top of Cape York in a few weeks Cheers, Strick... #back2basics @ Australia

01.01.2022 An insight into an afternoon on the trip Incredible sunset, massive feed of fish, coconuts with the last of the rum rations. Good music, yarns, followed by a long deep sleep. It wasn’t always filled with this much joy, and laughter, and good times. We often had to dig deep, and persevere, and feel hunger, and feel pain, but we’ll get to that. For now, life’s good... and I hope to see you out here
