Make sure you know when unpaid work is unlawful...: https://www.fairwork.gov.au/pay/unpaid-work For example, unpaid internships are lawful when they're part of a vocational placement for a course of study, but the law prohibits the exploitation of workers when they’re actually employees. Unpaid work trials may be unlawful where: it isn't necessary to demonstrate the skills required for the job or has continued for longer than is actually needed. This will be dependent on the nature and complexity of the work, but could range from an hour to one shift it involves more than only a demonstration of the person’s skills, where they are directly relevant to a vacant position, or the person is not under direct supervision for the trial.

16.01.2022 If you’re planning a family, make sure you check your parental leave entitlements: https://www.fairwork.gov.au/le/maternity-and-parental-leave You can take par...ental leave to care for a child after: you give birth your spouse or de facto partner (or former spouse of de facto partner) gives birth you adopt a child under 16 years of age. Remember, you’re entitled to up to 12 months of unpaid parental leave. You can also request up to an additional 12 months of leave. Employees who are taking parental leave to care for an adopted child are also entitled to 2 days unpaid pre-adoption leave to attend relevant interviews or examinations. This leave can't be used if your boss tells you to take another type of leave (like paid annual leave).

12.01.2022 The JobKeeper provisions in the Fair Work Act have been extended to continue past 28 September 2020, with some changes. One of the changes is that qualifying em...ployers can no longer use the original JobKeeper provisions to make agreements with eligible employees to take annual leave at half pay, or make requests (which employees couldn’t unreasonably refuse) that employees take some annual leave. From September 28, any agreement to take annual leave that was made under these provisions stops applying. After this date, the usual rules about taking annual leave apply. Your award, enterprise agreement, employment contract or workplace policy may set out how to take annual leave, including if employees can be directed to use leave. 02.01.2022 If your boss is no longer participating in JobKeeper, but they’ve still had a decline in turnover, they could be regarded as a ‘legacy’ employer. Legacy employe...rs can still give you some JobKeeper directions, such as reducing your hours, as long as you were previously eligible for JobKeeper. To give these kinds of directions, they must follow other conditions too. If your boss is a legacy employer and has any existing JobKeeper directions with you, they will end on 27 September 2020. Any new JobKeeper direction made by your boss to reduce your hours of work must: leave part-time and full-time employees with at least 60% of your ordinary hours as at 1 March 2020 (although sometimes a different way of working out these hours can apply), and result in you working for 2 hours or more on a workday.
