25.01.2022 EPIGENETICS. It’s at the heart of everything we do in our clinical work here at BackChat. It’s not ‘just’ about performance or results and data. But about our relationships with our little ones and truly ‘getting’ them. We firmly believe everything else flows from on there. Relationships first. It truly builds the brain at that cellular level. Every single time
24.01.2022 What a way to spend Christmas
22.01.2022 Adorable A little dose of sweetness to start your Saturday.
20.01.2022 And how crucial early intervention really is That critical period of brain development really is, a once in a lifetime window of opportunity.
19.01.2022 If there’s one fact we know here at BackChat, it’s that those first thousand of days of life are critical All of that serve & return that Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University talks about, is crucial for building little brains. And in 2021 with Events lined up here in Australia and the UK, I’m going to talk about how those critical early years impact on language and literacy outcomes for our little ones with neurodevelopmental conditions like ADHD and Autism.
16.01.2022 The family that eats dinner together, stays together I know many busy Mums & Dads that make sure the dinner routine is a BIG part of the family day. And with this type of evidence from Goodnet | Gateway to Doing Good, what’s not to love We enjoy lots of Talk Talk Talk in the BackChat house at meal times. What’s on the menu during your family dinners?
16.01.2022 One of our favourites from the Washington Post and it fits perfectly with our mantra for school-aged children here at BackChat. They need to be reading daily but also and just as importantly, they need loads of time to PLAY And lots of ‘Talk Talk Talk’ - that serve & return - with an engaged care giver. The best kind of ‘home’ work that builds little brains for a wonderful life.
16.01.2022 October is ADHD Awareness Month and WORKING MEMORY is one of THE biggest issues facing our little BackChatters with this condition, in clinic. And one of the most common questions asked by parents? How to improve it. This clip gives you some tips straight from the BackChat household But for more ideas, specific activities and tips from a Mum and SLP who has done just that stay tuned as we open up more seats at the upcoming BackChat Parent Workshop sessions. 13.01.2022 Non-verbal doesn’t mean I have nothing to say. It just means that you will need to listen to me, with more than your ears. Albert Einstein struggled to speak until well after his fourth birthday. But those around him always knew that he was SMART - brilliant in fact - and like so many of our little BackChatter’s parents, they stopped at nothing to help him shine. And wow, what a journey, that ended with him being awarded the Nobel Prize in 1905 for Physics. An important reminder for us all. Every child has a SMART. At BackChat we see it is as part of our journey with families, to unearth them
12.01.2022 So many of our little BackChatters are truly brilliant. The gift of ADHD has provided them with an artistic flair, an eye for design, symmetry and colour that is unparalleled. But like so many famous Artists, these little ones can struggle with memory, learning and processing speed issues. And also their Mental Health. Inattentive ADHD. An area we really ‘get’ here at BackChat and a topic I’ll discuss in depth at the Queensland My Special Child 2021 ADHD Conference.
12.01.2022 Every time I see this clip, I think of so many of my little BackChatters Quick, impulsive and fearless with so much drive & natural energy. So many SMARTS
07.01.2022 Continuing our #5booksadaychallenge here at BackChat so last night Master P & I spent some time re-Reading his old favourite a Play School series that I’ve read COUNTLESS times to him as a young baby, toddler and threenager. Our shared book reading session this time was a little different as Paddy read the books to me and also print referenced on every page, the letters we’ve been practising. Pointing, naming the letters and saying the language memory cue to aid his retention of each letter. Daily reading routines really are THE most important activity we can do within the home during these critical early years. What books or series are on repeat in your house
06.01.2022 A little afternoon giggle to brighten your Tuesday
05.01.2022 Those end of term feels. Anyone else
