24.01.2022 Cows, pigs, chickens and the return of the humans! Back Creek Farm staff are loving having students back on the property after a term where isolation meant that no student groups could attend and the Rural Studies program was delivered via Continuous Learning @ Home. So once again, students are working in six different work groups doing tasks hands-on, including milking, bacon and egging, homesteading, farming, cooking and assisting at Back Creek Café in Meredith. The Café ...is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 2:30pm, offering takeaway and limited dine-in service. Bookings (on 5286 1166) are preferred if you’re wanting to dine in. Meanwhile back at the farm, the dairy herd is at its smallest during the coldest months, with most of the cows spending some time in the paddocks awaiting the arrival of their calves across the next few months. Calving is always a joyful time, and a very busy time, as some of the mums, and their calves, need a bit of extra attention. With the young men from 9M and 9H from Middle School Highton arriving on Tuesday this week, it feels like Back Creek has its pulse back!

23.01.2022 Hey mum, it’s in the bag! And this was the result of Friday’s toil... We hope all of yesterday’s recipients enjoyed their Back Creek Farm eggs, jam, produce, Back Creek Café granola and dukkah, Ali Family honey, Le Madre sourdough, Meredith Goats Cheese, Origin coffee and a special chocolate treat! ... We’re open again tomorrow through til Friday 10am to 2:30pm choose a yummy option from our takeaway menu and don’t forget our take-home meals. This week’s options are Spanish chorizo, blue lentil and potato casserole (Gluten-Free); beef massaman curry and rice (GF); North African chickpea and pumpkin tagine (GF), flatbread, vegetarian minestrone soup (GF) and sunshine pudding with custard. 22.01.2022 We have been closed during the school holiday period, but back open again next week - Monday for takeaway only, but from Tuesday, dine-in service is up and running again as we welcome our first group of CCG students from Back Creek Farm! We’ve missed having students around the place all through second term. On Tuesday, we also introduce a new menu, so come and enjoy an ‘all-day’ breakfast, delicious lunch options, the best coffee in town or choose from our great range of other beverages. Please note, we are limited to 14 patrons in the café at any time, and while these restrictions are in place, bookings for dine-in are preferred Our opening hours will be Monday to Friday between 10am and 2:30pm closed weekends until further notice....drop in and say hello again!

21.01.2022 In memory of a much-loved and dear friend. The Christian College community is deeply saddened by the loss of Annette (Netty) Ferry who passed away quietly yesterday. A genuinely loved and truly valued member of our community, Netty served as cook at Back Creek Farm for more than two decades, blessing and enriching the lives of the thousands of students who passed through the Farm during those years, and all of the staff who had the pleasure to work alongside her.... Netty filled our cups, plates and hearts to overflowing. The memories and stories we all now have the opportunity to share, are so rich and full of life and laughter, and her memory will continue to positively impact our lives for many years ahead. She will be sorely missed by us, and the wider communities in which she was an active contributor. Our love, prayers and thoughts go out to her two children, Amanda and Scott, also to Karl and Jackie and her five beloved grandchildren of whom she was so proud. We yearn for the opportunity, when COVID restrictions are over, to truly celebrate the life of this incredible soul, who we are richly blessed to have known and loved as our dear friend. #BackCreekCafe

20.01.2022 Back to the future... After revelling in three weeks of near ‘normality’, unfortunately, we are forced to return next week to takeaway service only as COVID restrictions hit us all again and students return to Continuous Learning @ Home. Please note, we are closed this week as we prepare to resume our takeaway and take-home meals service. Watch this space for details of opening times and menus we so appreciated the support of everyone during our ‘lockdown service’ in Ter...m 2 and we will continue to provide a delicious range of food prepared with farm-fresh produce, tasty treats, the best coffee in town and a great range of other beverage options. While we can’t offer our fabulous dine-in experience for now, we still look forward to seeing you for some takeaway next week!

Nothing like a bit of nostalgia...on Fridays, Senior School students have the opportunity to reconnect with their Year 9 Rural experience via a lunchtime Teams catchup where Director of Back Creek Farm Kim Ali takes them on a virtual visit to their favourite animals, lets them ‘engage’ in a few chores around the place and say hello to Back Creek staff. For many of our students their Back Creek Farm experience is a real highlight of their years at CCG, and Back to Back Creek has proven a popular part of Continuous Learning @ Home among senior students. #BackCreekCafe

We’re loving being open for dining-in again as the Christian College Geelong, Year 9 students are busying themselves baking, making coffees, taking orders and serving l our wonderful customers. We’re open from 8:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday, have limited seats for dining-in (so make sure you book!); we’re serving a wonderful range of meals, snacks, treats and beverages, our takeawaymenu and service is in full swing and there’s a range of farm-fresh, wholesome and healthy produce you can take home to enjoy as well. Well, we never actually went away, but Back Creek Café is now opening longer hours between 8:30am and 3:30pm Monday to Friday...and the great news is, we have students again, there is limited onsite dining possible and we’re still serving a yummy range of eats and drinks, including all-day breakfast, healthy snack and meal options, mouth-watering treats (try our Brownies for a start... ) - fresh eggs from Back Creek Farm, fresh La Madre bread daily and the best coffee in town. 16.01.2022 Always popular! Our gluten-free pumpkin and Meredith goats’ cheese frittata is one of the popular items on our takeaway menu. Then there are egg and bacon rolls, toasties, chicken parmi burgers, homemade sausage rolls...and that’s just the start of it! 16.01.2022 Back Creek the buzz is back! What do you get when you put 32 young women from Year 9 together for a 12-day residential intensive experience on a Scotsburn dairy farm? Laughter, chatter and the bustle of activity around every corner! With much of this year spent in COVID lockdown, most Year 9s have unfortunately not been able to enjoy the full five-week blast that is Back Creek, but we’re making it up as best we can with the girls all living in for 12 days and experiencing in work teams the best of what the rural experience has to offer, as well as the community-based activities, the hike, the Rogaine treasure hunt and final night campfire and sleep out under the stars.

This week beef massaman and North African chickpea and Pumpkin tagine are part of the offering - perfect cuisine as the nights are getting cooler! 10.01.2022 Back Creek Farm staff love and embrace the fact that every day is different and every student who spends time there is unique. Outside of COVID restrictions, working with animals in different seasons at Back Creek is a one-off lifetime experience and that doesn’t change with online learning! Every day is a new adventure with class groups over the past three weeks of CL@H, students were introduced to dairy farming and the rigours of running an egg production business. They...’ve virtually experienced wood chopping, ricotta making and have seen how Back Creek Café operates...and they got to meet one of Richard’s favourite colleagues, Hen-rietta who modelled her beautiful plumage! They're also receiving a care package of Back Creek milk, eggs and homemade jam and while there's nothing quite like bunking in with friends and rising at 4:30am to milk cows, the CL@H program still fosters a great sense of connection between Farm staff and students.

08.01.2022 Back Creek Café's back.... We welcomed our CCG students back today the first time we’ve had students in the place since late in March! This week also marks our return to dining-in, with a maximum of 14 patrons permitted at any one time. We have a new-look menu, plenty of yummy options for an all-day breakfast, lunch or just something to keep the wolf from the door. Pick up some farm fresh eggs while you’re there!... We’re open Monday to Friday from 10am to 2:30pm and would prefer bookings if you’re coming to eat in. Look forward to seeing you soon!

Back Creek Café is open from 8:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday, offering a great takeaway selection and dine-in menu. 02.01.2022 A very special tribute for a very special person Anyone connected, past or present, with the CCG community is invited to contribute to a very special tribute for our dear friend Netty Ferry who passed away last Sunday. In light of COVID restrictions preventing a mass gathering to commemorate Netty’s life, her granddaughter Tilly has initiated a special project that everyone can take part in. Her dear Nan touched the lives of countless people, and students and other members ...of the CCG community - past and present - are invited to hand-write letters to her, or recount short stories and memories highlighting how Netty impacted and/or changed their lives. They can be attributed to the writer, or kept anonymous if you prefer. Please post them to PO Box 6103 Highton 3216.
