17.01.2022 International Association for the Study of Pain Did you know Migraine is a common, multifactorial brain disorder characterized by recurring disabling attacks of headache and associated features (migraine without aura) and, in one-third of patients, neurological aura features (migraine with aura). Visual symptoms are common; most auras are visual and up to 90% of patients report photophobia during attacks." 16.01.2022 International Association for the Study of Pain Neuropathic pain is caused by a lesion or disease affecting the somatosensory nervous system, and affects 6% to 8% of the general adult population. Neuropathicpain is associated with a negative impact on quality of life and a relatively modest efficacy response to existing drugs." 13.01.2022 How to set up your driving position achieving the correct seating and steering wheel position not only makes you more comfortable, it's safer too. Every time you jump in the car, the first thing you should do is get into the habit of setting up your seat correctly. Car manufacturers spend millions in research and development to make cars safer, but many safety systems rely on the driver being in the correct position.... Getting your driver's seat right allows you to have more control over the car and gives the airbags and head restraint a chance to do their job in an accident.

06.01.2022 Dr Mark Craig is again volunteering in Bagan, Myanmar (formerly Burma). We wish him all the best! The clinic is run by Dr Hla Tun, a Burmese physician who works on The Road to Mandalay, one of the tourist boats on the Ayeyarwady River, 4 days a week and runs a clinic for provincial subsistence farmers, who travel up to 2 days in the back of a truck, then wait up to 5 days to see him, while being sheltered and fed by Buddhist monks, on whose land the clinic was built. On hi...s own, Dr Tun sees up to 1000 people each weekend, assisted by trained but unqualified assistants and has been doing so for over 10 years without relief. On my previous visit in 2014, I demonstrated hundreds of joint injections and epidural steroid injections to Dr Tun, who has subsequently performed them on his patients. I was assisted by 2 bright young women who worked in the clinic, but who spoke no English, so I left funds with Dr Tun to pay for them to undertake English speaking classes and I hope that, if they are still working in the clinic, they will greet me in English upon my return. Bagan, southwest of Mandalay, is the ancient capital of Myanmar (formerly Burma). Located on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwady River, it’s known for the Bagan Archaeological Area, where more than 2,000 Buddhist temples and pagodas tower over green plains. Holy sites around Old Bagan include the ornate Ananda Temple, built in 1091 and topped with a golden stupa. Nearby is the vast 12th-century Dhammayangyi Temple. Dr Craig will back consulting in our Milton rooms on Monday, December 10.
05.01.2022 International Association for the Study of Pain Each year, millions of patients receive prescriptions in an effort to reduce the suffering associated with chronic pain. Although the effectiveness of long-term opioid therapy has never been convincingly established, several of its more serious consequences (including addiction, overdose, and death) are well known and have increased in tandem with the more liberal prescribing of the past 2 decades." 04.01.2022 International Association for the Study of Pain The importance of pain-related fear in the development and maintenance of chronic pain is widely supported. The fear-avoidance model (FAM) postulates that pain-related fear develops if pain-related sensations are interpreted as threatening and thus trigger both hypervigilance to pain and avoidance behaviors."
