22.01.2022 Here is the latest message from our Strava running club: Hi everyone, Hope you are all making the most of your 1 hour a day of exercise. Thankfully running is one of the few freedoms we still have and Im sure for some, like myself, helping to maintain some sanity!... This week try the follow fartlek: 2 minutes on/1 minute off/1 minute on /1 minute off - The on periods are comfortable hard. 6-7/10 effort, just on that threshold before your breathing becomes out of control The off periods aim to float at a reasonable easy pace (around 3/10) - enough such that you can maintain the pace for the hard periods, but not quite a full recovery. Walkers: repeat 6-8 times; cycle power walking with relaxed pace. Add some hills for a challenge. Beginners: repeat 2-3 times Intermediate: repeat 4 times Experienced: repeat 6 times As always if unsure, start conservatively and build pace throughout the session. Any issues or queries please reach out. Happy runnings, BIM Alphington Team. #running #strava #backinmotion #physiotherapy

21.01.2022 Hi everyone here is an update from our running club, Hope you have all been enjoying some wet weather running! The joys... Todays session is a mix of a steady temp run effort with a fast finish. These sessions are great to combine the best of both worlds. You can build speed endurance with the longer effort and work on improving your leg turnover at the end. I find these sessions with the change in speed are more interesting and less mentally taxing. Plus learning to pick up... the pace with tired legs will get you ready for when events resume. Try this: Walking: 20 minuets power walk, 5x1 minute jog or hills/1 minute slow walk or rest Beginner: 10 minutes tempo effort and 3x1min hard/1min easy Intermediate: 15 minute tempo effort and 5x1min hard/1min easy Experienced: 20 minute tempo effort and 5x1min hard/1min easy Temp effort is 5-6/10 - comfortable hard Hard 1min effort 7-8/10 - hard but not of control Easy effort - slow jog Typical warm up and cool down - 10-15 minutes for each Any issues or queries please feel free to reach out to one of our team. Happy runnings, BIM Alphington

16.01.2022 Happy World Physiotherapy Day!! Our thoughts go out to all our Physiotherapy colleagues currently working on the front line with active Covid-19 cases and in higher risk areas. We thank you for all your hard work and are with you for the long rehab post Covid-19.

15.01.2022 What comes to mind when you think of a ‘Health Plan’? Regular exercise, healthy eating and chatting to your doctor are all at the forefront - and you’re not wrong! All these things are very important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, however remedial massage is often overlooked. We often associate massage with fancy retreats, scented candles and fluffy white bathrobes, sought out only on special occasions. However, remedial massage is quite different from the type you enjoy... on a relaxing weekend trip. While remedial massage, or ‘soft tissue therapy’, does relieve tension in your muscles, the aim is not to provide whole body relaxation, but rather to yield a specific remedial outcome. There are definite benefits associated with both types of massage, but they should be sought out for completely different reasons. Learn more about why remedial massage is an important inclusion for everyone’s health plan. https://www.backinmotion.com.au//why-remedial-massage-is-a

15.01.2022 Here is the latest workout from Travis and our Strava team: Today we are working on traditional speed. Unlike previous weeks, the focus will be on near maximal efforts, but with walking breaks. This will allow for the recovery that is require to sustain repeated high effort/intensity bouts. This intensity of the intervals is 9-9.5/10. General guidelines for recovery are a time period of at least 3-1 - i.e. 1 hard minute running - 3 minute walking recovery, building to a slow ...jog. Whilst often neglected, increasing your top end speed is an important component of an overall program, aiming to improve endurance performance. The session: 5 x 400m hard // walking building to slow jog recovery, duration 3 times greater than that of the running (hence will vary person to person) 7 x 200m // 3 x duration recovery Optional: 5 x 100m // 3 x duration recovery Focus on good running form throughout. Any issues or queries please ask one of the team. Happy runnings from the Back in Motion Team

15.01.2022 Hi everyone, we are back to full iso running for us again - thankfully as runners we can still get outdoors and aim to maintain some level sanity. This week another hills session. Given no races are happening for a while, its a good time to work on speed and running form - hills tick both of these boxes. Find your self a medium gradient hill - 5-9%. The up portion will be the efforts. The down portion will be slow jog recoveries. For the efforts aim around 90% - hard, but ma...intain good running form (not out of control + drive from the hips, push from the ground). Adjust for the distance accordingly - 90% effort will be different speeds depending on the distance. Try to not to cook yourself too much on the 90s (easier said than done!). Do this with 15 minutes warm up and cool down Intervals: 2 x 90s 2 x 60s 4 30s 4 x 15s Happy running! Enjoy!

14.01.2022 Sleep is perhaps one of the most overlooked factors affecting recovery from injury. Forget ice baths and hot and cold packs, sleep is number one! Learn how to improve your sleep and improve your recovery. https://www.backinmotion.com.au//benefits-of-sleep-for-per
