18.01.2022 Patellofemoral pain syndrome Do you experience pain around the front of your knee? Is your pain worse with running, sit to stand, stairs or prolonged sitting? This can occur due to the patella (kneecap) not tracking well in its groove in the femur (thigh bone). Common causes of this include muscle imbalances around the knee and/or weakness around the trunk, hip or foot.... A physiotherapist can diagnose this condition, determine contributing factors and devise a management plan. Treatment can include soft tissue releases, stretches, strengthening, taping and muscle control exercises Please contact us if you would like any more information.

11.01.2022 Why would I get a running assessment? There are two major reasons to look at evaluating and changing the way you run. Firstly, if you are injured it is a great way at looking for any possible technique issues that might be contributing to your injury? Secondly, it can be a great way to enhance running performance. What is involved?... A running assessment is done on a treadmill, using a tablet to allow for detailed video analysis of your running technique. For example we can analyse foot landing position, joint angles, track significant muscle weakness or technique adaptions that might be leading to injury, or a decrease in performance. Once these have been identified, drills are then give for you to work on for at least 2 weeks before rechecking your technique to monitor improvement. Is there anything else I should be doing to fix/improve my running issues? A running assessment is only one of a number of components that can help with your running. If you are getting pain then a more detailed analysis of your bodies strength and flexibility will help. If it is performance you are after then ensuring you have a good training regime/running coach is also very important, as well as doing as much as possible to improve recovery time after training. If you have any questions regarding running assessments or running in general, give Hamish a call on 6282 9992.

09.01.2022 How we think we act vs how we actually do! We don't like to take ourselves too seriously at Back In Strength we always make sure we are having a good time - maybe some of us more than others (Hamish)!
