23.01.2022 Heres a great writer-in-residence opportunity for WA writers. Entries close next Monday, 16th March. https://www.nationaltrust.org.au/initiatives/inspire-wir/

22.01.2022 It wont take long for this one to get around...

20.01.2022 Today we celebrate National Dog Day. Wed like to give a shout out to all the Backroom Press pooches: Bobby, Sid, Skipper, Ruby and Kilu! These little woofers have given kids (and their parents, grannies, etc) so many smiles over the years. Hooray for Dogs! #nationaldogday2020 #SAFEBroome #fromthekimberleytotheworld

20.01.2022 Was exciting to see the mighty termite mound featuring in an exhibition at the new @wamuseum Boola Bardip. We know #patlowe would be pleased. One of our team had the privilege of visiting the new museum last week. It was great to see so much of the Kimberley represented across all the exhibitions. Lots of familiar faces and places, including one of our own: a very young Pat Lowe, who was pictured alongside Jimmy Pike outside Buckingham Palace (when they really did meet the Q...ueen!). In a totally unrelated exhibition we also spotted Broome’s dinosaurs . . . #wamuseumboolabardip #wamuseum #fromthekimberleytotheworld #jimmypike #termites #ourfriendsthetermites #termitemound #thekimberleyaustralia #perth #wa #westernaustralia #publishing #publishinghouse #indiepublishing #smallpress #backroompress #tourismaustralia #tourismwa #kimberleybooks #kimberleystories

18.01.2022 These COVID days have hit us pretty hard in the sales department, but we were chuffed this evening to learn that THREE of our titles are listed in "Broomes Top Ten" list for the Kimberley Bookshop, including the number one spot! Can you guess which one? Thank you to Marie and the team for your unwavering support. We love our local bookshop! #buylocal #kimberleystories #bookshoplovers

18.01.2022 At the opening of Corrugated Lines: A Festival of Words last night we announced the winners of the 2020 Backroom Press Writing Prize. And here they are: First Prize ($500) goes to: Jessica Miller for "Curry"... Second Prize ($250) goes to: Gordon Byers for "50 Years" Third Prize ($100) goes to: Myra Kendall for "Ebb and Flow" Congratulations to the three winners! There were MANY excellent entries and we are grateful to those who submitted stories. We encourage you to do so again next year. In the meantime, Backroom Press is looking towards publishing select short pieces of Kimberley-themed writing on our website, including some of the entries from this years Writing Prize. More info about that soon. The prize money for this competition was drawn from royalties for Beyond the Lattice, by the late Susan Sickert. Suzie was a Kimberley woman and founding member of Backroom Press. Upon her death, Suzies partner Peter Weil kindly donated the royalties to Backroom Press. We aim to continue to use these funds to support Kimberley writers.

18.01.2022 Has anyone seen Bobby? We were stoked to see Baz from Kerry Anne Jordinson’s Broome classic ‘Looking for Bobby’ make an appearance at this year’s Book Week parade! #bookweek2020 Small Press Network. shared with permission.

17.01.2022 This is rather grim. Publishers need to do better.

17.01.2022 Just a helpful reminder now that you dont have to get out of your p.js tomorrow to work. We know it can get confusing #backroompress #selfisolation #WFH

16.01.2022 We are getting ready to print Rani Middletons story, Me and My Semicolon; the beautiful, moving, witty and intimate account of our dear friends final year of life after being diagnosed with bowel cancer, aged just 34. Rani was a dedicated committee member of Backroom Press from 2015 to 2017. She was a lover of words and an exceptional writer. She wrote Me and My Semicolon as a blog that was read and loved by many, so it is fitting that her life and her writing can be ho...noured in book form. Pre-sales of a special hardcover edition are now available until this Friday, 31st July. Go to the link below to secure your copy. Paperback version also to be released in October. Please note: Some people (not everyone) have had a problem with the payment buttons. If you have any trouble with payment (e.g. if you are redirected to a PayPal home page rather than the checkout), please email us at [email protected]. http://backroompress.com.au/index.php/me-and-my-semicolon/

15.01.2022 How great is this? Love this post.

13.01.2022 The street where our local bookshop sits is getting some work done. We’re relieved to hear the boab tree retains pride of place out the front!

10.01.2022 This glowing review of The Boab Tree came through by email today. We thought wed better share it: "Thank You! Thank You! What a wonderful book from cover to cover. Ive started going through it .. reading bits, yearning over the photos, remembering boabs I have known. Tell Pat thanks and congratulations from me .. on behalf of all ex-Kimberley boab-lovers! You and BRP have brought us a miracle filled with memories!" It warms our heart to hear praise like this. Pat Lowe is a national treasure.

08.01.2022 Christmas is just around the corner. Perhaps give your boyfriend a book from Backroom Press Inc. to distract him from you bopping to the Christmas carols. (oh and perhaps a set of ear phones) #backroompress #christmastime #givethegiftofabook #christmascarols

08.01.2022 Another fabulous opportunity, this time from Magabala Books.

07.01.2022 We had a lovely end-of-year dinner and book swap in Broome last night. 04.01.2022 These two smiling women need special recognition this #iwd2020. Pat Lowe and Joyce Hudson are two of the founders of Backroom Press Inc. With their friend, the late Susan Sickert, they started publishing books in 2006 with their own pooled funds (which weve since paid back!). Along with another friend, Eirlys Richards, they have lived in the region promoting their love of words for decades. They are sometimes described as Kimberley royalty and national treasures. Their combined life stories could fill many volumes (and we hope they do, one day). They are marvellous, humble women. We are so fortunate to have them in our midst.

04.01.2022 Nice work, Ava and the Literacy Acquisition for Pre-primary Students team!

03.01.2022 Huge congratulations to Magabala Books on winning small publisher of the year! So well deserved.
