22.01.2022 It's a bit of a gloomy day outside but some exciting news from Backstage! To help sustain creative Australian musicians through the COVID19 crisis, BackStage Music has paired freelance composers and performers to collaboratively create new work and accompanying digital musical resources. We have quite a library developing that you can check out on the backstage music website. Our first collaborative couple are Danica Hobden and Vickie Pham. I really love the sounds they hav...e created together and their suggested other listening! http://www.backstagemusic.com.au/offstage-gallery/fluvial See more

21.01.2022 Arts industry is seriously going to need government support to ride this out. Once again it's the artists who are going to keep the community entertained and sane but how are they going to keep food on the table without an sick leave entitlements etc to see them though.

21.01.2022 great stuff happening over here!

18.01.2022 If you've been missing your new, Aussie music over the last couple of months tune in on Wednesday night at 8.30pm for Ensemble Offspring at the Melbourne Digita...l Concert Hall. It's a proper live stream event of the same show that was sold out at the Sydney Festival earlier this year. Sad to not be seeing you in person but your support of this event will help keep the industry kicking over until we can do this stuff live again. See more

12.01.2022 Live / live stream event coming soon! Pop into St James church in the city for the actual gig or check it out online. Looking forward to making some music so much! Time, distance and solitude are concepts we have all been reflecting on during these times of lockdown and social distancing. This concert features 6 flute players spaced around the beautiful St James Church, reaching out to connect, listen and make music. It offers a chance to contemplate what connects us to natu...re and each other through works that explore birdsong, time and separation. 11.01.2022 Our next Offstage project to share comes from Jane Sheldon and Niki Johnson. Plaint and Echo explores the mimicry of the voice by two very different percussion timbres. http://www.backstagemusic.com.au/offstage-g/plaint-and-echo

11.01.2022 If anyone has any ideas for these residencies please get in touch. For the paid residency in Newtown you need to be developing a bold new pop-up/roving performances for outdoor spaces inspired by the places and stories of our Inner West. For the the Rocks residency (unpaid) you could do a performance or workshop or work towards a pop up performance somewhere in the Rocks. I've got a few ideas about how to make this happen and always happy to have a chat if you do too. BackStage could maybe help out with promo etc... https://sydneyfringe.com//for-ar/expressions-of-interest/

10.01.2022 Composer opportunity!

10.01.2022 Live music in NSW is under threat. We risk losing 85% of the state’s live music venues within the next 12 months and we need your help to save them. Visit www.s...osnsw.org to sign the petition and Help Save Live Music! All we need is ONE MINUTE of your time to sign the above petition that will enable us to call on the NSW Government to work with MusicNSW and industry representatives to devise a stimulus package that will ensure the ongoing survival of all venues in NSW. This is a package that will support the communities who depend on live music for their existence. A package which will safeguard the future of our industry. A package that will Save Our Stages for artists to perform.

08.01.2022 Next up Offstage is Johannes McDonald and Blair Harris. 'Piece for Blair' explores the new sonic and gestural possibilities granted by jamming a chopstick between the strings of the cello. http://www.backstagemusic.com.au/offstage-g/piece-for-blair

Thanks Andy Ford for your wonderful interviews. https://www.abc.net.au//remembering-jazz-great-do/12071488

05.01.2022 The MOMENTUM Commission now open for EOIs! The AMC is pleased to announce the MOMENTUM Commission and call for Expressions of Interest. One of our leading compos...ers has generously provided an amount of $5,000 to support a very special opportunity. The MOMENTUM Commission offers practical support to a composer to forge forward during these uncertain times with the essential work of creating art. The commission recognises that resilience and positive momentum are integral to creative process, and provides a breathing and thinking space within which the work of art may continue to flourish. This opportunity acknowledges the current need for established composers/creators who don’t have ongoing employment, or a regular income, to be able to develop and/or create a new work. Deadline for EOIs is 21 August. To apply, go to https://www.australianmusiccentre.com.au/about/Momentum See more
