25.01.2022 As far as Im aware there have been no further plans made for BTGW. I posted on this page to try and generate some interest. The new BTGW committee have been formed however I am not a part of that. The meeting was held 12 months ago.
24.01.2022 We had a very disappointing day today. Bill Murphy, one of our committee members and a couple of friends went to Red Hill to open the time capsule to take out the book that had the names of everyone who put something in the time capsule 25 years ago. We were going to contact all those people to be in attendence on the Easter weekend 2020 when the time capsule would be retreived. Bill found the capsule had been tampered with and whoever opened it had left a full can of Coke in there and of course with the pressure of the capsule it exploded and everything in the capsule was corroded and unrecognisable. I am going to suggest at our meeting on 15th October that we place another capsule on our anniversary weekend and ask everyone to bring something to place in the capsule to be opened in 2070. I will ad an update after our meeting on 15th.
24.01.2022 GULGONGS 150TH ANNIVERSARY BACK TO GULGONG WEEKEND By Joy Harrison Gulgongs 150th Anniversary Back to Gulgong Weekend at Easter Weekend 10th -13th April 2020 is shaping up to be a fabulous celebration. On Friday 10th April the Gulgong Tennis Club is putting on a games afternoon. The feature of the afternoon will be tennis matches played as the game was played back in 1870. White dresses, pants, white socks, white shoes etc. and with the old wooden rackets. Michelle Ga...udry who is organising the afternoon said she is even looking for white tennis balls which would have been used around that time. There will be other games there also for adults as well as children. A complimentary afternoon tea will be served for all who attend. Saturday 11th April will be a huge family fun day on Red Hill commencing at 10am. There will be market stalls, face painting, jumping castle, Cobb & Coach Rides, Trike Rides, music and food. At 12 noon there will be colonial games such as a three legged race, sack rack and egg and spoon race. Following these games there will be age foot races for the children with prizes for the place getters. These will be followed at 2.45.pm by the Gulgong Cup, a foot race for the more experienced runner. The winner will receive a trophy. At 3pm we will be placing goods in the Time Capsule to be opened in 2025 at the 175th Anniversary. It is to be decided yet where the Time Capsule will be buried after vandals destroyed the time capsule placed on Red Hill at the 125th Anniversary. The day will conclude around 4pm. The Gulgong MADs will put on a performance on the Saturday night in the Prince of Wales Opera House. This is guaranteed to be a great evening which the MADs is known for. The weekend celebrations will end on the Sunday evening with The Grand Colonial Ball at the Gulgong RSL Club. The club will be putting on a complimentary champagne on arrival. When seated there will be a two course dinner served with tea and coffee. After dinner the band will play 70s and 80s music including a barn dance and other old time dances as well as the popular music of the 70s and 80s. It is guaranteed to be a night to remember so start polishing your dancing shoes. The RSL has given us a special price for this night and that is $40 per head. I doubt you can get a dinner and dancing anywhere for that. We really appreciate Jimmy Gaudrys and the Clubs generosity. Make sure you book early. You can book singularly or a table (each table seats 6 or a long table of 12). To make your booking call Joy Harrison for details or more information 0418 541998 or email your booking to [email protected]. We all look forward to seeing you there. See more

22.01.2022 Last Monday night was out first meeting of the committee for Gulgongs 150th Anniversary Easter 2020. The committee are myself, Margaret Meredith, Jan and Kevin Robson(Kevin could have taught many of you), Michelle Gaudry, Councillor Percy Thompson and Tony Harrison. Some of the events for anniversary are commencing Friday 10th April an old fashioned games afternoon at the tennis courts including a tennis match in period costumes and old rackets, croquet, quoits etc. Saturda...y will be the opening of the time capsule on Red Hill that was placed there 25 years ago. After checking the contents it will be filled again to be opened in another 25 years. Saturday evening there will be a Vaudeville type show at the Opera House performed by the members of the MAD Society followed by a bonfire/BBQ for the town on Red Hill where there will be food stalls, music and dancing. Sunday there will be the annual rabbit races as the Bowling Club followed by a Grand Ball at the RSL Club in the evening. The ball promises to be a fitting end to a weekend of celbration. It promises to be a great night of great food, music and dancing (period costumes invited but not necessary). This is what came out of our first meeting the next meeting will be at the end of February. I will keep you posted. In the meanwhile if you have any suggestions for the committee please dont hesitate to let us know. It is your weekend as well. See more

19.01.2022 Our first meeting of the new committee for the 150th anniversary will be 19th November. If you have any ideas for the celebrations please let me know and I can take them to the meeting. Stay posted i will give you a report after the meeting and hopefully with your ideas and ours we will have the makings of a fabulous weekend of celebration
19.01.2022 I have been keeping an eye on the news about the nightmare we have all been through and are still going through. With that said I am quietly confident our long weekend in October will be going ahead. The committee will have a meeting at the end of July early August and we should have a much better idea then if there will be any restrictions put onto our weekend (lets hope not). The tennis will be going ahead as sports are opening up now. The family picnic day on Red Hill shou...ld go ahead even with distancing we can manage that (I think people are used to it by now). I am sure we could manage the Ball even with some distancing restrictions it means we would not be able to have as many attend as we would have liked. Those that have tickets are OK it could mean we are limited to the extra number we can sell. Anyway I wont jump ahead we will wait until the committee meeting and then let everyone know. Lets pray there are no more outbreaks. See more

17.01.2022 After the disappointment of having to cancel Gulgong's 150th Anniversary Back to Gulgong Weekend and it will be five years until the 155th I was thinking maybe we could have a Back to Gulgong weekend the October long weekend 2022. Hopefully the virus will be over by then with the introduction of a vaccine. Please let me know you thoughts as to go ahead with the weekend or not. Keep safe and well.....Joy

For all those wonderful people who have been so patient and supported us from day one I would like to thank you. We look forward to seeing you in October.

11.01.2022 I hope this finds everyone well and safe after the craziness of the last twelve months. When we had to cancel our 150th anniversary last year we spoke about having a Back to Gulgong weekend October 2022. Or we could make it at Easter 2022 and have the Gulgong 152nd Anniversary back to Gulgong weekend. I am putting out the feelers to see what everyone thinks. We are open for suggestions. Please let us know what you all think.... Joy See more

09.01.2022 I have had a heap of enquiries regarding the Pub opening hours on Good Friday. I have just done a ring around and yes they will be open with restricted hours which are 12.00 noon to 10.00pm with no takeaway alcohol to be sold. So the pub crawls can take place.
09.01.2022 Join the Group "Gulgongs 150th Anniversary"

07.01.2022 The 150th Anniversary Weekend is drawing nearer. Plans are well underway for a fabulous weekend. If you are staying in Mudgee and wish to come to the Grand Colonial Ball on Sunday 12th April we will be running a bus from Mudgee to Gulgong and after the Ball from Gulgong back to Mudgee again. There will be more information as to the pick up and drop off once we know how many will be using the service. If you wish to come by bus please let us know as we need the numbers. Call Joy 0418541998 or email [email protected]
06.01.2022 One of the ideas I have had is a recreation of the bonfire that was held during the centenery celebrations at the shanty town built down past the hospital. I dont think we can manage the shanty town but I do think a large bonfire with food stands, dancing around the fire with folk music woulds be a great deal of fun and so unique for the city kids who will be there. What are your thoughts?? Keep the ideas coming in.
05.01.2022 Michele Gaudry still has Gulgong’s 150th Anniversay shoulder bags for sale for $10. The bags are good quality calico and include a stubborn holder and Gulgong photos dating back to early 1900’s. A bag would make a great Christmas gift. Call Michelle on 64741810 or email [email protected] We are meeting in the new year to discuss the possibility of holding a Back to Gulgong weekend October long weekend 2022. Let us know your thoughts. Have a wonderful Christmas and hope 2021 is a far better year for us all...Joy
04.01.2022 So the much discussed next Back to Gulgong Weekend is being planned for 2020, to coincide with the Henry Lawson 150th celebrations. Sounds a long way off, not really these things take a lot of planning, dollars and people to help. A meeting to form a new committee will be held on Thursday April 20th at 6pm at The Commercial Hotel Gulgong. Please come along and volunteer.
04.01.2022 Also on Easter Saturday the Bowling Club runs the rabbit races. This drags a huge crowd every year.
03.01.2022 Make sure to join the group Gulgongs 150th Anniversaryto receive all the updated information on the celebration plans.Make sure to join the group Gulgongs 150th Anniversaryto receive all the updated information on the celebration plans.
03.01.2022 Della Cansdell Taylor- Hi Della you and several others have mentioned a ball. You also want a school reunion. How wonderful would it be to hold the two together. All the students from school dressed in colonial dress (optional) and the townfolk coming together in one huge event. I am sure all the folk who watched you grow up would love to see you all again........Your thoughts.
03.01.2022 One thing I forgot to mention which is possibly one of the major events and that is the opening of the time capsule which was buried on Red Hill 25 years ago. We are going to dig it up and have a look at what was it in and then we are going to invite townsfolk to place items in there to be opened again in another 25 years.
02.01.2022 It is with disappointment that I write this post tonight. I have just come from a meeting of the committee of Gulgongs 150th Anniversary and the unanimous decision was to cancel the 150th celebration during the long weekend in October. The committee has put in a lot of hours of organisation for this event and for that I want to thank them all. It was not an easy decision to make but we feel it is for the best. For all of you who have purchased ball tickets your money will be... refunded. If you picked up you tickets from the RSL your refund will be waiting for you there. It will take a week or so to get all this organised so you can pick up your refund after 11th August. For those who booked online or through me your refund will be posted to you as I did your ball tickets. We have purchased a number of the 150th anniversary calico shoulder bags including a stubbie holder and four sheets of old Gulgong photos. These will now be available for $10 instead of $20 and can be purchased from Michelle Gaudry at [email protected] so dont miss out get in touch with Michelle. The committee is now talking about a celebration in 2025 for the 155th Anniversary so keep watching this space. Thank you all for being so patient and I am sure you will agree that we have made the right decision for our safety and the safety of all our friends. Joy See more
01.01.2022 Hi have this photo from a parade I am not sure which one but I am sure someone will know one or all of these bathing beauties.
01.01.2022 After our disappointment with the time capsule we are off rearing to go again. We had a meeting last week and have decided we will go ahead with another time capsule next year being such an important event (150th anniversary). This time the capsule will be more secure. We are asking everyone to bring something to put in the capsule on the Saturday on Red Hill but nothing larger than a letter envelope. Again we will make the reopening 25 years time in 2045. Plans are well unde...rway for the "Old time" tennis match and afternoon tea on Friday 10th April. Saturday, family day on Red Hill is shaping up to be a fabulous day that we will all remember for a long time. The Gulgong Music and dramatic Society are planning a great performance on the Saturday evening. I will give you more information as it comes to hand. The Grand Colonial Ball on Sunday 12th will be just that, grand. We have booked a local band that excel in the 70s and 80s music so bring your dancing shoes. Colonial dress is optional. The evening will consist of complimentay champagne on arrival, once sitting a two course dinner will be served and then the dancing will start. We are now going to have monthly meetings, so I will soon be able to let you know the cost of the night and where to book your tickets. It is guaranteed to be a wonderful night. Until next month.....Joy See more
